2. WHAT IS A CHEMICAL REACTION?
Chemical reaction: It is the process in which one or more substances,
the reactants, are converted to one more different substances, the
products. For example sodium + clhorine gives sodium chloride
Sodium and chlorine are reactants that are converted into different
substance called sodium chloride, which is the product.

3. TYPES OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS
Combination reaction: it is the reaction in which two or more
substances combine to form a single new substances. for example
2mg + o2 = 2mgo
Magnesium and oxygen are two substances combining to form a new
substance which is magnesium oxide.

4. DECOMPOSITION REACTION: It is the reaction in which compounds
breaks down into two or more simpler substances. For example
2NaOH = Na2O + H2O
SINGLE DISPLACEMENT: It is a reaction in which one element replaces
a similar element in a compound

5. DOUBLE DISPLACEMENT: It is the reaction in which positive and
negative ions of two ionic compounds exchange to form two new
compounds
COMBUSTION REACTION: It is the reaction in which substances react
with oxygen gas, releasing energy in the form of light and heat.
Combustion reaction must always involve oxygen as one reactant

6. REDOX REAC TION: It is the reaction that involves the transfer of
electrons between chemical species( the atoms, ions, or molecules
involved in the reaction) for example
During redox reaction, some species undergo oxidation, the loss of
electrons, while others undergo reduction, or the gain of electrons.
