Old examples
So we have the latest Australian Encyclopedia, but that’s now 22 years old – there’s a photo after the title page of the Chairman of the Advisory Board examining the sixth edition – and it’s our Gough!
We have set number 14528 of the special 15th edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica, but it’s dedicated to the President of the United States - George W Bush!
New examples
Any continuing annuals, from the Guinness Records, Stateman’s, Whitakers, World almanacs (and we have the current last edition of Pear’s Cyclopaedia)
Ongoing range of various things including World Development Reports, Mims, Wisden, stamps, coins, etc
Outstanding examples of new special areas of encyclopedic publishing: for instance, the Barcelona-based Lynx Ediciones Handbook of the mammals of the world; and the Royal Horticultural Society’s Encyclopedia of conifers
The gradually shrinking Wollongong Library Reference Collection is shelved on the walls (500-999 in this pic – about 2/3 of full collection)
