Social Construction Of Childhood
Childhood, in the 21st century, has become the center of attention because of the highly influential book "Centuries of Childhood" published in the year
1960. In the book, Aries (1960) argued that the concept has been created by the modern history and further indicated that children were considered as
mini–adults before the 17th century. According to Dr. Montgomery (2013), thechildhood in 1970s and 80s have enormously transformed in terms of
their treatment and their lives. Moreover, Dr. Montgomery revealed the contemporary and historical differences in the terms childhood. For instance,
children in the 21st century have fewer responsibilities and their lives are characterized by school, play, consumption and family instead of paid labor,
work, production and public life. This implies that the standards of childhood differ on the basis of economic setting and traditions of the societies.
The purpose of this assignment is to describe the changes in childhood over the years, while determining the role of difference in views and
perspectives on childhood in creating different expectations of the children.

This does not mean that the children were despised, neglected or forsaken; but what was meant here was that the concept of childhood is based on
social construction. Social construction, in simpler words, is a theoretical perspective of exploring the negotiation of reality in everyday life, which is
done through the interaction of the people and discourses (James & James, 2008). Moreover, James and James (2008) further simplified the concept by
indicating that social construction basically relates to the idea that the change in reality is because of the interaction that people have with each other
and in different

Throughout the history of childhood development poor social and economic conditions contributed to the many hardships and poor treatment of
children. During the early Middle Ages the "paternalist" family concept evolved and the father had authority and control over family matters
including the welfare and safety of his wife and children. Discipline was severe, young children both poor and wealthy were subjected to strict rules
and regulations and often beaten if disobedient. Children took on the responsibilities of adults at an early age, sharing in the work of siblings and
parents. Girls from affluent families were educated at home and married in their teens. Some males were educated at a monastery and others became

(Siegel 12). During the 17th and 18th Centuries family structure began to change and there was more recognition of children's rights. Extended families
were replaced with a more closely knit structure, marriage was on love and mutual commitment rather than on parental consent or economical
arrangement, and parents were more concerned about the welfare of their children. Schools began to flourish, children attended school at an early age,
however excessive physical discipline continued throughout educational life. "A child in that society was a second–class citizen." (Siegel 13). During
the Enlightenment period a more "humanistic view of life, freedom, family, reason and law" developed. These values had a strong impact on family
structure and lifestyle. Parents demonstrated more love and affection toward children and discipline was not as rigid. Childrearing improved and the
overall status of children moved to a higher level. (Siegel 14) In the 19th Century "children began to emerge as a readily distinguishable group with
independent needs and interests." Poor Laws and Chancery Courts were used to care for children in need. Poor laws gave the court power to appoint
overseers to place destitute and neglected children as servants in the homes of the affluent. Chancery Courts were established to appoint guardians of
orphaned children and protect their property and inheritance rights until they became of age. Under the

1.Introduction
Social constructionism gives meaning to phenomenon in social context and connections between culture and society build up realities in their
circumstances. The studies of this idea have been conducted more than thirty years by a number of North American, British and continental writers
(Burr, 1995). However, in childhood studies this notion appears later on. It is mostly held universally, childhood is a stage that biologically existing in

This paper aims to suggest social construction is an important approach when it comes to explain childhood phenomenon, but it must be considerate
biological components.
Background theories of Social constructionism
Starting with an overview of social constructionism in very general terms leads to build more explicit an understanding of child and childhood in a
social world. The notion of social constructionism is defined in diverse disciplines and instead of generating a single description there are a number of
thoughts. "It is sometimes called a movement, at other times a position, a theory, a theoretical orientation, an approach; psychologists remain unsure of
its status" (Stam 2001, p. 294)". Vivien (1995, p. 10) points out that the origin of social constructionism stems from two to three hundred years ago in
the period of enlightenment, modernism and postmodernism. Berger and Luckmann' (1966) book The Social Construction of Reality as the first book
to have the title of "social construction", has made an influential contribution in recent studies (Hacking, 1999). In this book, questioning everyday life
realities and giving examples from it, shows the importance of social relations and the language that we used. Hacking's (1999) The Social
Construction of What? offers up–to–date and logical instances which enable us to comprehend these aspects. He lists a number of things that can be

Childhood Education
Childhood education is a topic that many people don't really see as an important thing to talk about. But it is, this is where everything starts in a child's
life. It's where they can get a jumpstart on education, and learn things at a young age which sets them up for the bigger opportunities and offers later in
life but some kids can't have this education. Childhood education is concerning because of bullying, affordability, and poor health.
Bullying can get in the way of children getting education because of the children being scared to go to school. They are scared to go to school because
they don't want to get bullied, and bullying is becoming a major...show more content...
A lot of children 's parents can't afford to give their child an education. Some of the expenses are school supplies, clothes, classes, lunches, and after
school activities. When summer is over and school is starting back up school supplies can get really pricey. Some parents can't pay for the supplies,
which leads to kids not being able to get as good as education as others. Clothes can also be really expensive, another thing some parents can't afford
to get for their kids. "In the NEFE/Harris survey, 61 percent of parents who plan to spend money this fall on K–12 back–to–school or
education–related expenses anticipate spending the most money on clothes" (Golden 1). The parents already know that they are probably going to
have to spend the most money on clothes which takes money from other things that the money could be used on. Some parents can't pay for new
clothes and kids have to use their old ones which may be too small or worn and ripped. This can lead to the kids getting bullied, which leads to loss
of education. Lunches can really costly, whether you're buying them at school or bringing your own lunch, it's expensive. If you buy it at school,
parents may not have the money to give to their kid everyday for them to buy their lunch. Or even if they bring their own lunch, it's not free. The
parents still have to buy all the food and materials and

Essay about Childhood
Childhood is present in every adult. The immaturity, the innocence, the naivety, the thirst for approval, is craved in everyone around you.
Memories of childhood can be represented in many ways: a blanket, stuffed animal, rattle, song, or maybe even a movie. We can cling to these
things for support in times of need, or just to recall fond memories of a simpler, and in most cases happier time. As our lives change around us, and
we change to adapt to our lives we recall these items. We return to them for comfort, or we pass them to others who need them. These images can help
us deal with something unbearable; they can be our "ship in the storm". They can help us remember loved ones, or they can remind us of the good in

My aunt Mickey is pretending to be the Wicked Witch, and my mom is pretending to be Glinda. My cousin Craig was the cowardly lion, and my Dad
was the wizard and the tin man. My Grandma was Toto, and my cousin Sharon was the munchkins. Dana, my cousin, was the scarecrow. I was
skipping around the house singing, and they were all playing their parts. I stood up to the wicked witch, rescued the scarecrow, comforted the
cowardly lion, and tapped my heels three times to go home. As the only young child in my family at the time I was babied, and the center of attention.
The reason this video is so important to me is because of what it represents; my family when it was whole. In the recent years my aunt Mickey has
been diagnosed with Alzheimers and she no longer remembers me. My cousin Sharon died from lymphoma, and my Grandmother passed away. My
cousin Dana was diagnosed with cancer and lost a large part of her arm, but due to a family argument I haven't talked to Craig or Dana in almost two
years. There are new children, and new marriages that I don't hear about until months after. I no longer know these people, I only know my memories
of them.
My family is no longer together, and is no longer happy. As the most vital parts of our family passed away, the rest of us grew apart. Disagreements
and selfishness affected the relationships in ways none of us could have

CU1520 – Promote Child and Young Person Development
1.1 – Explain the factors that need to be taken into account when assessing development
Confidentiality – it is important when assessing a child that you have permission from parents or carers to have written records of their child. Most
parents will be happy for you to have written observations of their child but will not want these to be seen by other parents; therefore we should not
leave notepads lying around for others to see. It is also important to remember that we should only discuss children's progress with colleagues, parents
and other professionals who may need to know.

Filming/photographs – this can be useful to look over and over and catch things you may have missed the first time, it can also cover several areas. You
need to obtain permission for parents of all children in the video.
Sound recordings – this can be useful to record children's speech and language development and with a various number of recordings you can easily
monitor progress.
Information from parents and colleagues – parents and colleagues may see children in different situations therefore it is really useful to get information
from them. This can be in the form of questionnaires, face to face conversations, structured interviews and informal chats.
4.1. – Explain how own working practice can affect children and young people's development
You need to consider how you are positively affecting a child's life and experiences. You need to look at your relationships with staff their attitudes and
values and consider whether these allow the child's needs to come first.
Checklist:
* Adults need to be aware of the development needs of the child * You have the right systems to ensure that everyone gets the information that they
need to work effectively with the child * Make sure activities are planned specifically to support child development * There is a balance if activities to
engage interest * Balance between adult and child initiated

Compare And Contrast Essay On Childhood
A person's life can be summed up within a sentence, their childhood just a word. Time has the interesting ability of warping. At the same time, it has the
ability to take away sentiment from any event.
Words can only express so much of an experience. One can only relate to an experience by sharing that moment, even then the way individuals process
experiences differs drastically. A prime example of this is one'schildhood. People can share the same superficial characteristics, yet have two different
takes on childhood. Two male middle children with separated parents and two siblings can diverge completely. Where does this lie? It lies within one's
processing, which in turns creates unique same experiences. Every individual is...show more content...
The Stage For children, the greatest thing fought for is recognition. Especially as a young girl, it's only natural to crave attention.
I grew up as an extroverted child. That's one of the reasons why I was attracted to the stage; it was my domain, my home. My mom told me that my
extroversion became apparent in one specific situation. My family and I were at the beach for our annual beach trip and I was making sandcastles.
There was another little girl near us who was also playing in the sand. My mom told me that I walked over to the little girl and just sat down and started
playing with her, at one point she asked, "can we be friends?" my response was, "I thought we were already friends."
The Dancer Growing up as an only child my best friends were the Disney princesses. I watched them glide and dance along the screen, swinging in
the arms of a handsome prince. They were magnificent. Beautiful, graceful, and powerful. I wanted nothing more to join their brigade. At three, I was
put in dance classes to make this dream happen. Tap and jazz, definitely not the princess dancing I imagined. This became apparent when the first
recital came around. We were given fluorescent, sparkly leotards. No ball gowns or even a tutu. I don't recall the reason for my following actions, but
according to my mom when all the other little dancers took position and began dancing I didn't. I sat on the stage. My mother was furious,

My Memories Of My Early Childhood Essay
My earliest memory I remember as a child is around the age of two years old. My Mother would put me in the playpen but I refused to stay. I was
able to climb out of it. I remembered my Mother's face expression that let me know that I better not climb out of the playpen again. This was one of
my earliest memories of her setting her boundaries. When I got older, my Mother told me about the situation. She needed to clean and/or cook so she
had to put me in the playpen. At the age of two years old, I just wanted to explore and didn't want to stay in the playpen. This set the tone between us
moving forward.
During my early childhood, I had both of my parents and grew up with three other siblings from a different Father. Both of my parents were born in
Belize in Central America. I was born in New York. They instilled many thoughts, ideas and traditions of the Belizean culture. My mother had an
authoritarian style of parenting meanwhile my Father had an authoritative style of parenting. Looking back at it, it made sense because I was closer
to my Father than my Mother. My Mother was the one to always saying "No" to everything and my Father was stern but we had a great relationship.
My Father and I used to have our Father–Daughter days that we would go out. We would talk about a variety of topics that I wanted to talk about. I
was able to be open with my Father. He challenged me to think with our deep conversations about life and his expectations he had for me. I loved the

When I was a young child I would love to hear my parents tell me that we were going on a trip. I would be full of excitement, because I knew that
we would be going to a place that I had never seen before. My parents, my brother, and I would pack our luggage and venture out in our small gray
minivan. Three of my most cherished memories in our minivan are when we went to Disney World, the beach, and the mountains.
When I heard my parents talking about going to Disney World I was so excited. It was a long trip down to Florida and I could not sit still, because I

Going to the beach was nothing like going to the lake or swimming pool. The ocean had large waves that would come crashing into the beach. I
was so small that the waves would just throw me around. I also got to walk down the beach and find different objects that the waves had washed
up on shore. I found seashells that had brilliant colors like the rainbow. I even found a creature that looked like pink jelly. I picked the creature up
with a stick and took it to show my dad. My dad told me that it was a jellyfish that could sting me, so he made me bury it in the sand. I saw another
creature that was gliding in shallow water. It was dark brown with a long tail and looked like it had wings. It was a horrible looking creature that I
had never seen before. My dad came down to the water to see what I was looking at. He told me that they were called skates, and they would not
hurt me. That was the first time I saw something living in the ocean besides a fish. My dad then showed me that there were little creatures called,
sand fiddlers, which would wash up when the waves crashed into the shore. We sat down on the sand so he could show me how to catch them. The
sand fiddlers would dig down in the sand fast as lightning, so we had to dig for them fast as we could. When I caught one it felt like it was trying to
dig into your hand with what seemed like a million legs. After about four hours I was exhausted and starving. I

"Play is developmentally appropriate for primary–age children and can provide them with opportunities that enrich the learning experience" (Copple &
Bredekamp 2009). Early childhood education holds two main focuses; a child–based focus and a family–based focus. Early childhood education has
positive outcomes on the child through their learning experiences, and their growth and development. Based on the family, the results of early
education happen through the communication that the family has with the educators and by the encouragement they get from within themselves, and
also from the educators.
Children learn most of what they know through play. There are many ways in which a child learns on a daily basis, they learn the skills and...show more

Educators can facilitate the children with different materials and environments in the classrooms that are in the early learning centres. The children
need to develop their minds cognitively. "Children actively construct knowledge as they manipulate and explore their world" (Berk 2007). Children are
needing to develop their abilities through their play experiences, and also through their play experiences, they can develop appropriately.Early
childhood education plays a large part in a child's early development. Children develop cognition through two main stages that Jean Piaget theorized.
The stages run from birth and infancy to school age children. Sensorimotor is the first stage and goes from birth to about the age of two. This stage
implies that the children learn about the environment they live in and they learn this through the reflexes and movements they produce. They also
learn that they are separate people from their parents and they can say goodbye to them and know they will come back. The second stage is called the
preoperational stage. During this stage of development, children will learn how to incorporate symbols to represent objects. This is also the beginning
of learning the alphabet and speech. The child is still very much egocentric at this point in time, but with the help of understanding educators, the child
will grow appropriately onto the next stages of development. Finally, the children need to develop emotionally/socially.

Social Construction Of Childhood Essay
From this lesson, I would like to know the meaning of social construction of childhood. I am very familiar with the history of psychology and
children's literature. My grandmother used to live with us when I was a young, and she told me many stories of the past. For this reason, I am able to
link the materials I study to the real world. The social construction of childhood is somehow new to me. Especially the way Postman (1999) expresses
social construction of childhood. For example, he stated, "In the twentieth century, childhood began to unravel, and by the twenty–first, may be lost
altogether– unless there is some serious interest in retaining it". (p. 116). This lesson inspired me to express my point of view of social construction of

In sum, theories links education together for discussions in the oral and written form. Another advantage of theories is that there are many kinds to
suit a diversity of people. For example, if a teacher observes that students are interested to learn about children, there are many theories about how
children learn and mature. Also, some teachers will prefer some theories over others, and because there are many theories, people can choose one that
best suites their beliefs and styles of life. For example, I find most of the theories helpful and capable of guiding people when they do not have any
other resources. For instance, in the olden times' child labour was an issue, and people were not educated as they are now. This I learned it from this
lesson and also from my grandmother. My grandmother used to tell me stories of how children especially girls had to start work early. The
children did not only help in the house to raise the babies and clean, but they also worked at the family business. Boys, however, were encouraged
to go to school and expand the family business or start their own work. In addition, evidently from this lesson and from my experience, in the olden
times, people did not keep track of their age. This can victimize children again. Not only children were victims of labour, but they were on many
occasions forced to marry at a young age. Psychologist, who wanted to help children or young adults, came up with theories for

Essay on History of Childhood
Childhood is usually understood as a set of experiences and behaviours, gained in the early stages of the human existence, considered as the
preparation for the adult world. However, the history of childhood is a very complex topic and it has become a very influential area of study in
recent years. In 1962, the 'Centuries of Childhood' by Philippe AriГ©s introduced the idea that childhood was a new creation developed in recent
centuries and as a concept it was believed to be nonexistent before the seventeenth century. This concept means that there was no awareness of the
process of childhood. In several studies of the medieval period, AriГ©s noticed that childhood was not acknowledged or even attempted to be

He believes that it is at that age that reason starts to develop until finally the child becomes an adult. In 'Emile' Rousseau emphasises that nature
wants children to take advantage of being children before being adults and there is a period of acquiring knowledge before living in the real world.
A theory of innocence of the child emerged giving a need to protect children from the harsh reality of the adult world. Childhood has its own ways of
seeing, thinking, and feeling which are proper to it/ child's mind considered as a blank state to be inscribed by experience: the infant is often compared

through Romantic Literature, due to its artistic and reinvigorating movement during the eighteenth century. The supreme faculty of mind is reason by
stressing strong emotions and imagination, which is the key reason to the shaping of creative power. Childhood acquired a sense of spirituality attached
to its phenomenon; it became increasingly valued by adults, since children represented hope and progress within society. Childhood therefore became

Benefits Of Early Childhood Education
INTRODUCTION Early childhood education has not always been the top priority in the education world. Although, research has proved that it
should be the top priority as the benefits of Early Childhood Education are innumerous. Extensive neuroscience research has discovered that the
brain is build over time and it is built from the bottom up. Early childhood experiences directly affect the quality brain development. Establishing a
sturdy foundation through a high quality early childhood education experience, will dramatically develop child's brain. As a result, they will have a
brighter future. In this essay, I will propose a plan for the children of 2020 and how to ensure the best early childhood education experience. I
personally believe that racially, culturally, linguistically and developmentally responsive practices parental involvement are critical to the sturdy
foundation that is essential to the positive early childhood experience. RACIALLY, CULTURALLY, LINGUISTICALLY, AND
DEVELOPMENTALLY RESPONSIVE PRACTICES I believe that racially, culturally, linguistically responsive practices are essential to creating a
fruitful learning experience for any child at any age. With that said, it is exceptionally important for children in the early childhood age group to be
taught appropriately. Due to the way the brain develops, children are very susceptible to new information. When taught repetitively over a period of

Descriptive Essay About My Childhood
What do you think of when you think of home? Is it a place to sleep, a place to cry,or is it your hiding place. When most people think of home they
think of it as just some place that they live at with their family, and or guardians. But when I think of home I think of it as my solid fortress, the only
place where I am free to be 100% me.
My house, still very distinctive in my mind, so beautiful with vivid memories I can never forget, the place where all my family loved coming, and
leaving with a light of hope, is the home of my childhood. It's almost mandatory to mention my childhood home, it is the place where I was at my
happiest in my life. Talking about my childhood memories brings me such joy, every time I think of my childhood home, because it is such a vibrant
place that made me so excited to grow up, while I had such a carefree life. Needless to say, my childhood home is a one story red and brown

because no matter which way you would turn within the subdivision you were bound to see the home that captured my childhood. Being that we had

My Childhood And Teenage Years Essay
I was in a heavy sleep when the shouting of crude remarks and curse words penetrated my bedroom walls and woke me. I was accustomed to noise
coming from my parents' bedroom late at night. They spent a huge portion of their bedtime arguing. Their arguments ranged from the most trivial
things like the flushing of the toilet to more complex matters such as whether my mom spoils me. My parents also fought in the daytime. Basically,
any time they shared a space an altercation was bound to happen. In some cases, I would be right there looking at them argue and other times I would
fall asleep to their endless disputes. I spent a good amount of my childhood and teenage years trying to understand the nature of my parents' relationship
and marriage. They have been together for nearly thirty–one years. After being a part of their marriage for eighteen years, I began to draw my own
conclusions about their relationship: it was unhealthy. Rewind back to 1984, New Year's Eve, this marked the first time my parents ever met. My
mom and her girl friends were dining at a restaurant on the Upper East Side. Coincidentally, my dad was also eating there with his co–worker.
Apparently, they were regulars at the restaurant, and always ordered the most expensive dish on the menu. It's a pretty simple story of how boy meets
girl or girl meets boy, in which my dad walked over to her table and asked for her phone number. As the story unfolds, my dad would not call her until
two months later.

Social Construction Of Childhood

  • 1. Social Construction Of Childhood Childhood, in the 21st century, has become the center of attention because of the highly influential book "Centuries of Childhood" published in the year 1960. In the book, Aries (1960) argued that the concept has been created by the modern history and further indicated that children were considered as mini–adults before the 17th century. According to Dr. Montgomery (2013), thechildhood in 1970s and 80s have enormously transformed in terms of their treatment and their lives. Moreover, Dr. Montgomery revealed the contemporary and historical differences in the terms childhood. For instance, children in the 21st century have fewer responsibilities and their lives are characterized by school, play, consumption and family instead of paid labor, work, production and public life. This implies that the standards of childhood differ on the basis of economic setting and traditions of the societies. The purpose of this assignment is to describe the changes in childhood over the years, while determining the role of difference in views and perspectives on childhood in creating different expectations of the children. Discussion Childhood in History and Impact of Societies on Childhood...show more content... This does not mean that the children were despised, neglected or forsaken; but what was meant here was that the concept of childhood is based on social construction. Social construction, in simpler words, is a theoretical perspective of exploring the negotiation of reality in everyday life, which is done through the interaction of the people and discourses (James & James, 2008). Moreover, James and James (2008) further simplified the concept by indicating that social construction basically relates to the idea that the change in reality is because of the interaction that people have with each other and in different Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Throughout the history of childhood development poor social and economic conditions contributed to the many hardships and poor treatment of children. During the early Middle Ages the "paternalist" family concept evolved and the father had authority and control over family matters including the welfare and safety of his wife and children. Discipline was severe, young children both poor and wealthy were subjected to strict rules and regulations and often beaten if disobedient. Children took on the responsibilities of adults at an early age, sharing in the work of siblings and parents. Girls from affluent families were educated at home and married in their teens. Some males were educated at a monastery and others became apprentices to...show more content... (Siegel 12). During the 17th and 18th Centuries family structure began to change and there was more recognition of children's rights. Extended families were replaced with a more closely knit structure, marriage was on love and mutual commitment rather than on parental consent or economical arrangement, and parents were more concerned about the welfare of their children. Schools began to flourish, children attended school at an early age, however excessive physical discipline continued throughout educational life. "A child in that society was a second–class citizen." (Siegel 13). During the Enlightenment period a more "humanistic view of life, freedom, family, reason and law" developed. These values had a strong impact on family structure and lifestyle. Parents demonstrated more love and affection toward children and discipline was not as rigid. Childrearing improved and the overall status of children moved to a higher level. (Siegel 14) In the 19th Century "children began to emerge as a readily distinguishable group with independent needs and interests." Poor Laws and Chancery Courts were used to care for children in need. Poor laws gave the court power to appoint overseers to place destitute and neglected children as servants in the homes of the affluent. Chancery Courts were established to appoint guardians of orphaned children and protect their property and inheritance rights until they became of age. Under the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Social Construction of Childhood Essay 1.Introduction Social constructionism gives meaning to phenomenon in social context and connections between culture and society build up realities in their circumstances. The studies of this idea have been conducted more than thirty years by a number of North American, British and continental writers (Burr, 1995). However, in childhood studies this notion appears later on. It is mostly held universally, childhood is a stage that biologically existing in human life in early years. It should be considered this childhood is constructed in the society. As a social being, it brings into the mind the relationship between society and child, inevitably. However, the dominant understanding of childhood attributes biological and social...show more content... This paper aims to suggest social construction is an important approach when it comes to explain childhood phenomenon, but it must be considerate biological components. Background theories of Social constructionism Starting with an overview of social constructionism in very general terms leads to build more explicit an understanding of child and childhood in a social world. The notion of social constructionism is defined in diverse disciplines and instead of generating a single description there are a number of thoughts. "It is sometimes called a movement, at other times a position, a theory, a theoretical orientation, an approach; psychologists remain unsure of its status" (Stam 2001, p. 294)". Vivien (1995, p. 10) points out that the origin of social constructionism stems from two to three hundred years ago in the period of enlightenment, modernism and postmodernism. Berger and Luckmann' (1966) book The Social Construction of Reality as the first book to have the title of "social construction", has made an influential contribution in recent studies (Hacking, 1999). In this book, questioning everyday life realities and giving examples from it, shows the importance of social relations and the language that we used. Hacking's (1999) The Social Construction of What? offers up–to–date and logical instances which enable us to comprehend these aspects. • 5. Essay On Childhood Education Noah Carter Sherry O'Sullivan English II 7 September 2017 Childhood Education Childhood education is a topic that many people don't really see as an important thing to talk about. But it is, this is where everything starts in a child's life. It's where they can get a jumpstart on education, and learn things at a young age which sets them up for the bigger opportunities and offers later in life but some kids can't have this education. Childhood education is concerning because of bullying, affordability, and poor health. Bullying can get in the way of children getting education because of the children being scared to go to school. A lot of children 's parents can't afford to give their child an education. Some of the expenses are school supplies, clothes, classes, lunches, and after school activities. When summer is over and school is starting back up school supplies can get really pricey. Some parents can't pay for the supplies, which leads to kids not being able to get as good as education as others. Clothes can also be really expensive, another thing some parents can't afford to get for their kids. "In the NEFE/Harris survey, 61 percent of parents who plan to spend money this fall on K–12 back–to–school or education–related expenses anticipate spending the most money on clothes" (Golden 1). The parents already know that they are probably going to have to spend the most money on clothes which takes money from other things that the money could be used on. Some parents can't pay for new clothes and kids have to use their old ones which may be too small or worn and ripped. This can lead to the kids getting bullied, which leads to loss of education. Lunches can really costly, whether you're buying them at school or bringing your own lunch, it's expensive. If you buy it at school, parents may not have the money to give to their kid everyday for them to buy their lunch. Or even if they bring their own lunch, it's not free. • 6. Essay about Childhood Childhood is present in every adult. The immaturity, the innocence, the naivety, the thirst for approval, is craved in everyone around you. Memories of childhood can be represented in many ways: a blanket, stuffed animal, rattle, song, or maybe even a movie. We can cling to these things for support in times of need, or just to recall fond memories of a simpler, and in most cases happier time. As our lives change around us, and we change to adapt to our lives we recall these items. We return to them for comfort, or we pass them to others who need them. These images can help us deal with something unbearable; they can be our "ship in the storm". They can help us remember loved ones, or they can remind us of the good in someone who has...show more content... I stood up to the wicked witch, rescued the scarecrow, comforted the cowardly lion, and tapped my heels three times to go home. As the only young child in my family at the time I was babied, and the center of attention. The reason this video is so important to me is because of what it represents; my family when it was whole. In the recent years my aunt Mickey has been diagnosed with Alzheimers and she no longer remembers me. My cousin Sharon died from lymphoma, and my Grandmother passed away. My cousin Dana was diagnosed with cancer and lost a large part of her arm, but due to a family argument I haven't talked to Craig or Dana in almost two years. There are new children, and new marriages that I don't hear about until months after. I no longer know these people, I only know my memories of them. Childhood Essay CU1520 – Promote Child and Young Person Development 1.1 – Explain the factors that need to be taken into account when assessing development Confidentiality – it is important when assessing a child that you have permission from parents or carers to have written records of their child. Most parents will be happy for you to have written observations of their child but will not want these to be seen by other parents; therefore we should not leave notepads lying around for others to see. • 8. Compare And Contrast Essay On Childhood A person's life can be summed up within a sentence, their childhood just a word. Time has the interesting ability of warping. At the same time, it has the ability to take away sentiment from any event. Words can only express so much of an experience. One can only relate to an experience by sharing that moment, even then the way individuals process experiences differs drastically. A prime example of this is one'schildhood. The Stage For children, the greatest thing fought for is recognition. Especially as a young girl, it's only natural to crave attention. I grew up as an extroverted child. That's one of the reasons why I was attracted to the stage; it was my domain, my home. My mom told me that my extroversion became apparent in one specific situation. My family and I were at the beach for our annual beach trip and I was making sandcastles. There was another little girl near us who was also playing in the sand. My mom told me that I walked over to the little girl and just sat down and started playing with her, at one point she asked, "can we be friends?" my response was, "I thought we were already friends." The Dancer Growing up as an only child my best friends were the Disney princesses. I watched them glide and dance along the screen, swinging in the arms of a handsome prince. They were magnificent. Beautiful, graceful, and powerful. I wanted nothing more to join their brigade. At three, I was put in dance classes to make this dream happen. Tap and jazz, definitely not the princess dancing I imagined. This became apparent when the first recital came around. We were given fluorescent, sparkly leotards. No ball gowns or even a tutu. I don't recall the reason for my following actions, but according to my mom when all the other little dancers took position and began dancing I didn't. I sat on the stage. My mother was furious, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 10. My Memories Of My Early Childhood Essay My earliest memory I remember as a child is around the age of two years old. My Mother would put me in the playpen but I refused to stay. I was able to climb out of it. I remembered my Mother's face expression that let me know that I better not climb out of the playpen again. This was one of my earliest memories of her setting her boundaries. When I got older, my Mother told me about the situation. She needed to clean and/or cook so she had to put me in the playpen. At the age of two years old, I just wanted to explore and didn't want to stay in the playpen. This set the tone between us moving forward. During my early childhood, I had both of my parents and grew up with three other siblings from a different Father. Both of my parents were born in Belize in Central America. I was born in New York. They instilled many thoughts, ideas and traditions of the Belizean culture. My mother had an authoritarian style of parenting meanwhile my Father had an authoritative style of parenting. Looking back at it, it made sense because I was closer to my Father than my Mother. My Mother was the one to always saying "No" to everything and my Father was stern but we had a great relationship. My Father and I used to have our Father–Daughter days that we would go out. We would talk about a variety of topics that I wanted to talk about. I was able to be open with my Father. He challenged me to think with our deep conversations about life and his expectations he had for me. I loved the time Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Childhood Memories Essay When I was a young child I would love to hear my parents tell me that we were going on a trip. I would be full of excitement, because I knew that we would be going to a place that I had never seen before. My parents, my brother, and I would pack our luggage and venture out in our small gray minivan. Three of my most cherished memories in our minivan are when we went to Disney World, the beach, and the mountains. When I heard my parents talking about going to Disney World I was so excited. It was a long trip down to Florida and I could not sit still, because I was so excited. We finally arrived that evening and decided to stay in a hotel near thetheme park. When it was time for bed I could not go to sleep for a long time, because I...show more content... Going to the beach was nothing like going to the lake or swimming pool. The ocean had large waves that would come crashing into the beach. I was so small that the waves would just throw me around. I also got to walk down the beach and find different objects that the waves had washed up on shore. I found seashells that had brilliant colors like the rainbow. I even found a creature that looked like pink jelly. I picked the creature up with a stick and took it to show my dad. My dad told me that it was a jellyfish that could sting me, so he made me bury it in the sand. I saw another creature that was gliding in shallow water. It was dark brown with a long tail and looked like it had wings. It was a horrible looking creature that I had never seen before. My dad came down to the water to see what I was looking at. He told me that they were called skates, and they would not hurt me. That was the first time I saw something living in the ocean besides a fish. My dad then showed me that there were little creatures called, sand fiddlers, which would wash up when the waves crashed into the shore. We sat down on the sand so he could show me how to catch them. The sand fiddlers would dig down in the sand fast as lightning, so we had to dig for them fast as we could. When I caught one it felt like it was trying to dig into your hand with what seemed like a million legs. After about four hours I was exhausted and starving. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Early Childhood Education Essay examples "Play is developmentally appropriate for primary–age children and can provide them with opportunities that enrich the learning experience" (Copple & Bredekamp 2009). Early childhood education holds two main focuses; a child–based focus and a family–based focus. Early childhood education has positive outcomes on the child through their learning experiences, and their growth and development. Based on the family, the results of early education happen through the communication that the family has with the educators and by the encouragement they get from within themselves, and also from the educators. Children learn most of what they know through play. There are many ways in which a child learns on a daily basis, they learn the skills and...show more content... Educators can facilitate the children with different materials and environments in the classrooms that are in the early learning centres. The children need to develop their minds cognitively. "Children actively construct knowledge as they manipulate and explore their world" (Berk 2007). Children are needing to develop their abilities through their play experiences, and also through their play experiences, they can develop appropriately.Early childhood education plays a large part in a child's early development. Children develop cognition through two main stages that Jean Piaget theorized. The stages run from birth and infancy to school age children. Sensorimotor is the first stage and goes from birth to about the age of two. This stage implies that the children learn about the environment they live in and they learn this through the reflexes and movements they produce. They also learn that they are separate people from their parents and they can say goodbye to them and know they will come back. The second stage is called the preoperational stage. During this stage of development, children will learn how to incorporate symbols to represent objects. This is also the beginning of learning the alphabet and speech. The child is still very much egocentric at this point in time, but with the help of understanding educators, the child will grow appropriately onto the next stages of development. Finally, the children need to develop emotionally/socially. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 14. Social Construction Of Childhood Essay From this lesson, I would like to know the meaning of social construction of childhood. I am very familiar with the history of psychology and children's literature. My grandmother used to live with us when I was a young, and she told me many stories of the past. For this reason, I am able to link the materials I study to the real world. The social construction of childhood is somehow new to me. Especially the way Postman (1999) expresses social construction of childhood. For example, he stated, "In the twentieth century, childhood began to unravel, and by the twenty–first, may be lost altogether– unless there is some serious interest in retaining it". (p. 116). This lesson inspired me to express my point of view of social construction of ...show more content... In sum, theories links education together for discussions in the oral and written form. Another advantage of theories is that there are many kinds to suit a diversity of people. For example, if a teacher observes that students are interested to learn about children, there are many theories about how children learn and mature. Also, some teachers will prefer some theories over others, and because there are many theories, people can choose one that best suites their beliefs and styles of life. For example, I find most of the theories helpful and capable of guiding people when they do not have any other resources. For instance, in the olden times' child labour was an issue, and people were not educated as they are now. This I learned it from this lesson and also from my grandmother. My grandmother used to tell me stories of how children especially girls had to start work early. The children did not only help in the house to raise the babies and clean, but they also worked at the family business. Boys, however, were encouraged to go to school and expand the family business or start their own work. In addition, evidently from this lesson and from my experience, in the olden times, people did not keep track of their age. This can victimize children again. Not only children were victims of labour, but they were on many occasions forced to marry at a young age. Psychologist, who wanted to help children or young adults, came up with theories for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Essay on History of Childhood Childhood is usually understood as a set of experiences and behaviours, gained in the early stages of the human existence, considered as the preparation for the adult world. However, the history of childhood is a very complex topic and it has become a very influential area of study in recent years. In 1962, the 'Centuries of Childhood' by Philippe AriГ©s introduced the idea that childhood was a new creation developed in recent centuries and as a concept it was believed to be nonexistent before the seventeenth century. This concept means that there was no awareness of the process of childhood. In several studies of the medieval period, AriГ©s noticed that childhood was not acknowledged or even attempted to be portrayed during this period. For...show more content... He believes that it is at that age that reason starts to develop until finally the child becomes an adult. In 'Emile' Rousseau emphasises that nature wants children to take advantage of being children before being adults and there is a period of acquiring knowledge before living in the real world. A theory of innocence of the child emerged giving a need to protect children from the harsh reality of the adult world. Childhood has its own ways of seeing, thinking, and feeling which are proper to it/ child's mind considered as a blank state to be inscribed by experience: the infant is often compared to a 'white paper' to be written over or to a plastic substance (wax) to be molded According to Alan Richardson, childhood gained a central position through Romantic Literature, due to its artistic and reinvigorating movement during the eighteenth century. The supreme faculty of mind is reason by stressing strong emotions and imagination, which is the key reason to the shaping of creative power. Childhood acquired a sense of spirituality attached to its phenomenon; it became increasingly valued by adults, since children represented hope and progress within society. • 18. Descriptive Essay About My Childhood What do you think of when you think of home? Is it a place to sleep, a place to cry,or is it your hiding place. When most people think of home they think of it as just some place that they live at with their family, and or guardians. But when I think of home I think of it as my solid fortress, the only place where I am free to be 100% me. My house, still very distinctive in my mind, so beautiful with vivid memories I can never forget, the place where all my family loved coming, and leaving with a light of hope, is the home of my childhood. It's almost mandatory to mention my childhood home, it is the place where I was at my happiest in my life. Talking about my childhood memories brings me such joy, every time I think of my childhood home, because it is such a vibrant place that made me so excited to grow up, while I had such a carefree life. Needless to say, my childhood home is a one story red and brown middle–class brick home, with a wooden fence surrounding its circumference, located in Carencro,Louisiana. My house, is the center of attention, because no matter which way you would turn within the subdivision you were bound to see the home that captured my childhood. Being that we had wood flooring, always confused me, because as you walked it would shift on some parts of the flooring, like leaves were crunching, so it kind of brought you on a journey as you were walking. At night I would creep in the dark on the pieces that would shift, and I would imagine myself outside Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. My Childhood And Teenage Years Essay I was in a heavy sleep when the shouting of crude remarks and curse words penetrated my bedroom walls and woke me. I was accustomed to noise coming from my parents' bedroom late at night. They spent a huge portion of their bedtime arguing. Their arguments ranged from the most trivial things like the flushing of the toilet to more complex matters such as whether my mom spoils me. My parents also fought in the daytime. Basically, any time they shared a space an altercation was bound to happen. In some cases, I would be right there looking at them argue and other times I would fall asleep to their endless disputes. I spent a good amount of my childhood and teenage years trying to understand the nature of my parents' relationship and marriage. They have been together for nearly thirty–one years. After being a part of their marriage for eighteen years, I began to draw my own conclusions about their relationship: it was unhealthy. Rewind back to 1984, New Year's Eve, this marked the first time my parents ever met. My mom and her girl friends were dining at a restaurant on the Upper East Side. Coincidentally, my dad was also eating there with his co–worker. Apparently, they were regulars at the restaurant, and always ordered the most expensive dish on the menu. It's a pretty simple story of how boy meets girl or girl meets boy, in which my dad walked over to her table and asked for her phone number. As the story unfolds, my dad would not call her until two months later. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
