Editor's Notes
Hi and welcome to our webinar on custom build sharepoint versus ready to go intranets.
Let me quickly go over some housekeeping.
This webinar is being recorded, it should last about 45 minutes with a 15 minute Q&A session at the end
The slides and webinar recording will be emailed to all registrants after the session.
If you have questions, please send them in anytime during the webinar and we will answer at the end.
Okay, great, let’s get started. I’d like to introduce Jill Hannemann, Director of Advisory Services at Portal Solutions. Jill, would you share a little bit about yourself?
Thanks Jill. Also with us today is Daniel Cohen-Dumani, founder and ceo of portal solutions.
Great, thanks Daniel. Let me briefly go over the agenda then we’ll dive right in.
Custom SharePoint intranets have been the industry standard for years, but there is a new contender on the scene and that is the ready-to-go intranet.
But which one is better? We’ll define custom built and ready to go intranets, we’ll talk about intranet essentials and trends, followed by the advantages, benefits and differences of custom intranets vs ready to go. We’ve got a lot to cover so without further ado, Daniel, please take it away.
Tools & Forms – typical involve enabling access to HR forms, policies, and information “How do I…?”
Corp Communications – Company-wide, team, one-to-one. “What’s going on…?”
Department sites - Specific questions answered fast – “Don’t ask me, Find it yourself…”
Project Sites – consolidated project artifacts and project data – “What the status…?”
People – easily find experience and expertise – “Who has worked on…?”
Portal/Gateway – single place to access internal systems - “What’s the web address for…?”
Key take away: enable self-service; minimize internal requests – less searching and more doing.
Jill to frame challenges and experience, what are we hearing
Daniel to start, Jill to follow
Daniel
Turnkey are packaged products with common use cases and scenarios pre-built and ready to be deployed with minor customizations. Usually branding, look and feel and some configuration eneded
Jill
- Custom ,,,,,,,,
Thanks Daniel and Jill. We’d like to launch a poll to learn a little more about our audience. Please take a moment to answer the question – What is your intranet platform based on? DANIEL TO COMMENT ON RESULTS
Thanks Daniel, let’s get this match started. Jill, I know custom sharepoint intranets have been the norm for so long, what are its advantages?
WE have another poll – What is the state of your intranet? Please take a moment to answer. DANIEL TO COMMENT ON RESULTS
Okay Daniel, I’ll let you go first in round 2 with the benefits and capabilities of a ready to go intranet solution.
At the end, (Jenny) - Very compelling reasons, thanks. Jill, let’s hear your side of the story from the custom build perspective.
Round 3 Cost – Jill, I’ll give you first opportunity to talk about the costs associated with going custom.
Pretty even match so far. Let’s see what happens in round 4. Daniel, how flexible and innovative are ready to go solutions?
This really doesn’t seem like a Round – but I’ll say, Round 5 the last and final round. We’d like to cast one more poll – How do you perceive microsofts long term roadmap for the intranet?
Daniel to address results.
New custom portal – still based on foundation of Sharepoint
Good news you will have options
What would you next steps be between and Turnkey and Custom
Thanks Daniel, speaking of questions, we have quite a few from the audience.
Thanks Daniel and Jill for a great lead into our closing slide. Depending your circumstances you’ve probably taken away one "winner" that best matches your needs. For some it will be custom build and for others it will be a ready-to-go intranet. Need help finding out? Please take advantage of our free consultation.
