2. Compare and Contrast Essay
From what I have learned in this two movies “Cabin In The Wood” directed by Drew
Goddard and “Fear Island” directed by Michael Storey, the comparison that I had
found out is that they contain a few similarities in the layout which is the number of
main characters, the storyline, the leading role model of the character and the genre.
The 5 main characters in the movie “Cabin In the Woods” are Dana acted by Kristen
Connolly, Marty acted by Gran Kranz, Jules acted by Anna Hutchison, Curt acted by
Chris Hemsworth and Holden acted by Jesse Williams (website retrieved
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1259521/). The movie “Fear Island” also contain 5 main
characters which were acted by Haylie Duff as Jenna, Aaron Ashmore as Mark, Lucy
Hale as Megan, Kyle Schmid as Tyler Campbell and Jacob Blair as Kyle Campbell

In both of the storyline the scipt involves the main character die one by one. The
movie “Cabin in the Woods”, the main leading character Dana die last with Marty.
The first character named Jules was beheaded by a zombie when she was having a
stroll with Curt in the woods, fortunately for Curt, he managed to escape from the
ordeal, but later he was the second casualty, when he decides to jump the ravine with
a dirt bike which is at the back of the RV to go get help. He hits the invisible barrier
and dies. The third was Holden, he is stabbed through the head and the RV crashes
into the lake. The movie “Fear Island” the first dead was a girl, she was locked in a
hot tub. The second was Kyle Campbell he was burried in the place where Retina was
burried. The third was Mark and the last was Jenna she was killed by Megan the sister
of Retina.
The leading role in this two movies are female character which is Dana in the movie
“Cabin In The Woods” and Jenna in the movie “Fear Island”. Dana who was the girl
who read a diary belonging a young girl who was brutally beaten by her father.
However when Dana finished reading the diary, the family members who were
mentioned in the diary returns from their graves. In the movie “Fear Island” Jenna
was in the psychiatry hold when she was found by the police, she recalled the story
from the beginning over a few days in the hospital to the psychologist and the police.
In the end she tricked everyone and escaped from the hospital because she was the
murderer of the whole story.
The last similarity of this two movies share the same genre which is horror, thriller
and mystery script. In the movie “Cabin In The Woods” the horror part is the moment
when the zombies suddenly appear and kill the characters causing tension and
suspense among the audiences. And the mystery part of the story was when those
characters going to the cabin, they need to passed through a u-shaped tunnel in the
mountain and they saw a bird flying across the ravine and hits an invisible wall. Next,

3. the horror part in the second movie “Fear Island” was the toy monkey cycling the bike
round and round when they were walking back to the cabin after placing the victim in
to the large freezer. The movie make the audiences integrate into a hair-raising
situation. The mystery part is in the secluded island had a mystery cabin for traveller
and the cabin was surrounded by a dark forest.
Altough in conclusion, the scenario of these two movies has it’s similarities, but I
enjoyed the movie “Cabin In The Woods” more because it has a more interesting
storyline and it stick to the fantasy part which is the monsters and not a murderer.
