This letter is to commend Ms. Phyllis Jeffers-Coly on her involvement with our agency,
Project GRAD Cincinnati (PGC), and her assistance with our Summer Bridge Program in
specific. PGC Summer Bridge is an educational summer enrichment program held
annually at Western Hills University High School for our transitioning incoming 9th
grade
students.
Ms. Jeffers-Coly was originally one of the staff members designing and working with our
PGC Summer Institute, which was to be held on the University of Cincinnati campus.
Through this involvement, I invited her to volunteer as a “Mentor” for our Summer
Bridge program, which she gladly accepted. When she attended the first meeting, which
was to brainstorm the manner in which the Mentors would interact with our students, Ms.
Jeffers-Coly not only shared an outstanding enrichment program model, but later trained
the other mentors on implementation. The program worked very well as the students and
Mentors benefited from the experience.
Phyllis is an outstanding professional educator who brings energy, enthusiasm, and
intelligence to any project she undertakes. I am so grateful to have met her and had the
opportunity to not only work with her as a volunteer in my program, but also to work
with her when she was being paid as a college professor…there was no difference in her
performance or level of dedication! I want Phyllis on my team at all times. She was also
cooperative with staff and students, fun to be around, and hard working. I can not thank
her enough for what she did to make my Summer Bridge Program outstanding!
