Editor's Notes
Here because we are trying to improve mathematics skills. Are there any alumni Mathletes here?
I’ve thrown in a few of the problems from last year’s oral competition. It took our top competitors less than 20 seconds to get the correct answers.
Now don’t feel too bad if you didn’t get the answer in less than 20 seconds, you are probably just a bit rusty – it is early in the school year yet! However, I can offer you an opportunity for learning mathematics principles better than you ever thought you could.
OK – one more
Now that we are getting a little warmed up I would like to explain what the MATHCOUNTS program is all about.
This is the goal of the MATHCOUNTS programs. Now here is another problem.
Here is a sample of the written competition.
This is page 1 from last year’s Sprint Round School competition. There are 30 problems to be worked in 40 minutes – no calculators and they get more complex as they go on. 1. – 35000 2. – 9/8 3. - 214 degrees F 4. - $16
The Co-Coach positions are an opportunity to get involved. We have many schools, both public and parochial or private, in our area that would be most grateful to get a Co-Coach. If you volunteer, you will learn more about mathematics than you thought possible.
