37 WEST 26TH
St Suite 207
New York, NY 10010
212.206.7776
Founded in New York City in 2006 by master printers and industry veterans,
Peter Berberian and Ryan Speth, Gotham Imaging’s mission is to continue the
150 year craft of photographic printing in this digital age. Classically trained and
with decades of experience, we bring a truly unique skill set and vision to print
making.
The strength of Gotham’s business is reflected best via the client projects that we
have facilitated. To better familiarize you with our services and our philosophy,
we have put together a collection of client stories that represent the range of our
company and vision.

The New York Times Building: A Project of Historic Proportions
The only thing more frightening than the phone not ringing, is when it does.
Our first major challenge as a company arrived when we landed one of the most
sought after jobs in the city—crafting over 800 historic and Pulitzer Prize winning
prints for permanent display in every office and hallway on 19 floors, for the new
offices of the New York Times.
The magnitude of this job and the gravity of it’s longevity became immediately
evident to us as we met with the main photo editors, such as Kathy Ryan and
Michelle McNally, and with photographers like Damon Winter and Tyler Hicks.
The process took over 9 months and hundreds of hours. Physical prints and
negatives had to be found, scanned, and retouched. Having to print images
spanning over 100 years was a challenge for which we were uniquely suited.
The vintage work had to look of it’s time, but mastered and in harmony with the
contemporary works, our skills as darkroom printers allowed us the insight to
make this happen, the collaboration with the Times staff made it unique.

Sony Music / Icon Collectibles: The Future of Vintage
Wanting to give music enthusiasts an inside look into some of the most well-
known moments and personalities in music history, Sony Music turned to
Gotham to bring their vintage archive to light.
In a vault on Madison Avenue in the basements of Sony’s NY headquarters, is a
vast archive spanning decades, with thousands of rolls of film, hundreds hand
written notes and other ephemera. Captured are some of the most famous
recordings of all time, Aretha Franklin’s first recording session, Bob Dylan’s
Freewheelin’, Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue, Dave Brubeck’s Take Five, Dizzy
Gilespie working with Charlie Parker and Duke Ellingtion. Sony worked with us to
help them facilitate the creation of a online catalogue, with made to order open-
edition prints. For the first time in it’s history, Sony allowed the film from there
archives out of the vaults so that our skilled team could make the master scans.
Our skill set in this arena is second to none.

Nan Goldin: Fine (and Fast) Art
A fine artist through and through, Nan Goldin expects prints that reflect her
artistic vision. When you work with Nan and her team you are available on her
time clock—which can run day and night (mostly night).
Printing for Nan’s Scopophilia show at Matthew Marks Gallery was one of the
most challenging that we have done.
This was a whirlwind of re-edits for the exhibition and quick turn around times.
Sizes were changed, new images were scanned, and tweaks to the prints where
made right up until the day of the opening. And, yet, with an eye on the deadline
and seamless communication with the Nan and her team, our contribution to the
installation reflected precisely Nan’s vision.

Dermot Realty: Creative Initiative, Restoration, and Mammoth Prints
Dermot Realty, owners of hundred of properties in the Greater New York City area, is a
unique client of ours. They come to us with projects and hand over the reigns, they trust
us to manage all aspects of the job. Most of their needs involve producing artwork for
public spaces in their buildings, and our role includes everything from sourcing images,
to evaluating retouching needs and determining printing sizes, to managing mounting
and framing.
One projects of note involved us sourcing vintage Bernice Abbott images from the New
York Public Library for one of their landmark buildings. The original prints we sourced
for them were scratched, stained, and had often times not been well preserved. Seeing
the potential in a body of work that distinctly represented New York City, we worked
tirelessly to bring this rarely seen archive to a new audience.

Melanie Acevedo: Quality, Quantity, and Efficiency

Despite the changing landscape of photography, and the increasing number of
commercial photographers who attempt to print their own work, there are still
many photographers who prefer to professional printers for expertly made edition
prints and portfolios.
A number of factors come into play for the commercial photographer working on
a deadline and a budget while still wanting the superior quality of the best in the
industry. Our client Melanie Acevedo is a case in point. Working closely with her
to produce both portfolio book and large print portfolios, we have developed an
intimate relationship with her that allows us to quickly add images as she revises
her body of work. This relationship allows her to be current, while being mindful
of her budget. Her agent Stockland Martel is now working with us to produce
more portfolios for their other clients.

Bentley Motorcars: Precision Aesthetic
Bentley Motorcars is synonymous with perfection, and when they needed large prints of
illustrations and display design consultants for centerpieces for their Concept SUV
Launch Event, they came to us.
There is a certain amount of translation that occurs every time we work with graphic
designers or illustrators, but unlike most photographic printers in the city, it is not
unusual for us to work with clients outside of the photographic industry.
We are well versed at how to ensure that all types of clients receive the product that
they are expecting.
At our recommendation while working with their team, the completed prints were
mounted to aluminum, as a subtle reference to the materials in the car. This
presentation reflected the standards and style of the Bentley brand.

Ruder Finn/ Novartis: A Single Edition Heirloom Book
The international communications firm Ruder Finn came to us with a highly specialized
project for their client, Novartis. They needed pages printed for a custom, hand-bound,
single edition book, as a gift for a retiring executive. The completed project was to be
delivered in two weeks, and they needed us to complete the 70 printed pages in less
than three days.
The source material was a mix of hand-written text and black and white documentary
images taken by acclaimed photographer’s James Nachtwey, Steve McCurry, and Mary
Ellen Mark. The photographs were known and previously published, we were mindful to
reproduce the images according to the artist style.
We crafted prints that reflected our impeccable attention to detail, and we exceeded
both Ruder Finn and Novartis’s expectations make for a truly beautiful object.

Gregory Heisler: New Media Launch
When Ilford set-out to release a new line of papers, they turned to Gregory Heisler Ilford
master and veteran photographer.
Greg was simultaneously announcing the upcoming book 50 Portraits and was excited
about the prospect of his first exhibition (hard to believe, we know) but reluctant to
delegate the printing, as he had always printed his own work.
This collaboration resulted in over 40 exhibition prints, 30x40 inches and larger of a
selection of Heisler’s signature portraits. The diverse range of both the work and the
paper surfaces allowed us all to get creative and really think about the content and
compositions and which paper best reflected the feeling of the images. The sweetness
of the black and white portraits of Pete Seeger and Liv Tyler looked stunning against
the Ilford Gold Cotton Textured, while a high-contrast, high saturation portrait of Tiger
Woods was best translated on the glossy Ilford Mono Silk.
We were really honored to finally win Greg Heisler over, who was thrilled with the show.

Foley Gallery / Wyatt Gallery #SANDY: Giving Back
The #SANDY Benefit Project was a labor of love. When Michael Foley and Wyatt
Gallery approached us to contribute to the #SANDY exhibition, we saw a wonderful way
to help our area recover through the art community we know best.
Working with iPhone images taken by professional photographers such as Ben Lowy,
Stephen Wilkes, and Lyle Owerko during the hurricane, we printed 150 10”x10” images
for the exhibition at Foley Gallery. We worked tirelessly to promote the show using our
extensive social media and marketing network.
When all was said and done, the gallery sold over 400 prints. With
Gotham’s donation of printing services, our collected efforts helped to raise over
$20,000, all donated to Occupy Sandy, and the Rockaway Relief center founded by
Alison Thompson's and run by Third Wave.
Gotham is committed to giving back to the people that make the world a better place for
us all. We are committed to donating at least 5% of our profits to organizations like this
every year.
These just a few of the stories we wanted to hightlight, see below for a more detailed
company CV.

  • 7.     7   Bentley Motorcars: Precision Aesthetic Bentley Motorcars is synonymous with perfection, and when they needed large prints of illustrations and display design consultants for centerpieces for their Concept SUV Launch Event, they came to us. There is a certain amount of translation that occurs every time we work with graphic designers or illustrators, but unlike most photographic printers in the city, it is not unusual for us to work with clients outside of the photographic industry. We are well versed at how to ensure that all types of clients receive the product that they are expecting. At our recommendation while working with their team, the completed prints were mounted to aluminum, as a subtle reference to the materials in the car. This presentation reflected the standards and style of the Bentley brand.
  • 8.     8   Ruder Finn/ Novartis: A Single Edition Heirloom Book The international communications firm Ruder Finn came to us with a highly specialized project for their client, Novartis. They needed pages printed for a custom, hand-bound, single edition book, as a gift for a retiring executive. The completed project was to be delivered in two weeks, and they needed us to complete the 70 printed pages in less than three days. The source material was a mix of hand-written text and black and white documentary images taken by acclaimed photographer’s James Nachtwey, Steve McCurry, and Mary Ellen Mark. The photographs were known and previously published, we were mindful to reproduce the images according to the artist style. We crafted prints that reflected our impeccable attention to detail, and we exceeded both Ruder Finn and Novartis’s expectations make for a truly beautiful object.
  • 9.     9   Gregory Heisler: New Media Launch When Ilford set-out to release a new line of papers, they turned to Gregory Heisler Ilford master and veteran photographer. Greg was simultaneously announcing the upcoming book 50 Portraits and was excited about the prospect of his first exhibition (hard to believe, we know) but reluctant to delegate the printing, as he had always printed his own work. This collaboration resulted in over 40 exhibition prints, 30x40 inches and larger of a selection of Heisler’s signature portraits. The diverse range of both the work and the paper surfaces allowed us all to get creative and really think about the content and compositions and which paper best reflected the feeling of the images. The sweetness of the black and white portraits of Pete Seeger and Liv Tyler looked stunning against the Ilford Gold Cotton Textured, while a high-contrast, high saturation portrait of Tiger Woods was best translated on the glossy Ilford Mono Silk. We were really honored to finally win Greg Heisler over, who was thrilled with the show.
  • 10.     10   Foley Gallery / Wyatt Gallery #SANDY: Giving Back The #SANDY Benefit Project was a labor of love. When Michael Foley and Wyatt Gallery approached us to contribute to the #SANDY exhibition, we saw a wonderful way to help our area recover through the art community we know best. Working with iPhone images taken by professional photographers such as Ben Lowy, Stephen Wilkes, and Lyle Owerko during the hurricane, we printed 150 10”x10” images for the exhibition at Foley Gallery. We worked tirelessly to promote the show using our extensive social media and marketing network. When all was said and done, the gallery sold over 400 prints. With Gotham’s donation of printing services, our collected efforts helped to raise over $20,000, all donated to Occupy Sandy, and the Rockaway Relief center founded by Alison Thompson's and run by Third Wave. Gotham is committed to giving back to the people that make the world a better place for us all. We are committed to donating at least 5% of our profits to organizations like this every year. These just a few of the stories we wanted to hightlight, see below for a more detailed company CV.
