This waste management plan outlines procedures for Alpha Adventure Safaris to reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, and dispose of waste in an environmentally responsible manner. It categorizes waste sources and types, and assigns responsibilities to Alpha, enterprises, and contractors. Performance will be monitored through inspections, audits, and key indicators like the percentage of waste generated and audit results. The plan is intended as a guide and will be reviewed annually.

Introduction:
Waste management plan includes all solids and liquid refuse, including
hazardous and non-hazardous waste, produced as a result of project activities
within the Alpha adventure safaris company.
Alpha adventure safaris aim to provide guidance on waste reduction,
segregation, collection and disposal practices in accordance with international
best practices, to avoid deterioration of the natural environment and negative
impacts on the health and safety of the community in the area.
The project is committed to apply the waste hierarchy and will seek to be a
zero-waste discharge facility. This plan is a primary plan to guide employees
towards waste management.

1. WASTE MANAGEMENT HIERARCHY
❖ Prevention
The focus is to prevent raw materials, ingredients and products from becoming
waste in the first place. Companies should be committed to avoiding the
generation of waste and not using hazardous materials. Where the use of
hazardous is unavoidable, efforts should be made to identify replacement
materials that are non-hazardous through continued research and
development.
❖Re use
The company should be required to prepare maintenance management plan
which seeks ensure that all equipment’s are regular checked and maintained
and repaired. The company should also seek to sell and buy reused items.
❖Recycling
4. Page 4
The company should seek to turn waste into a new substance or product. for
example, the company should provide all the plastics to recycling companies to
make new products.
❖Recovery
Recovery of waste is usually most successful when done in bulk. therefore, a
centralised recovery facility is preferable. Forms of recovery include energy,
papers.
❖Disposable
This is the last resort and must occur in an environmentally responsible
manner. If wastes are to go for disposal this must occur at a suitably designed
sanitary waste disposal site.
WASTE CATEGORIES GENERATED BY ALPHA ADVENTURE SAFARIS.
● Solid waste generation in Alpha adventure safaris include, wet, dry,
domestic
● The main are,
● Biodegradable wastes (food and kitchen wastes, green wastes, fruits,
leaves, flowers and vegetables)
● Recyclable materials (papers, glasses, bottles, metals, plastics)
● Inert wastes (construction waste, dirt, street weeping,)
❖ THE SOURCE OF WASTES AND WASTE GENERATORS AND THE
ANTICIPATED CONTENT OF THE SOLID WASTE GENERATED ARE
PRESENTED BELOW.

❖WASTE TREATMENT OPTIONS
The primary options for the treatment of solid waste for the environment
benefit include,
● Anaerobic digestion.
● Composting(window)
● Incineration with or without energy recovery.
● Pyrolysis and gasification
● Plasma pyrolysis and palletisation
● Reuse
❖PERFORMANCE MONITORING
❖Inspections
Site inspections must be inspected performed by the assistant sustainability on
a regular basis with a formally document or report each month to ensure that
all commitments in the plan are being enforced or acted on.
❖Data collection
Implementation of the waste hierarchy principles reacquires that destination of
residual matter is monitored. Register of waste material should be maintained
to ensure the measurement of eliminated waste and of residual matter sent for
reuse, recycling and reclamation.
❖Waste audit
After a year of operation, a waste audit should be performed, on all waste data
collected, to identify waste streams and fate and develop ways to reduce waste
production.
❖PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
6. Page 6
Measurement is an important tool in improving performance, and performance
indicators will help Alpha adventure safaris define and measure progress
towards their goals. The results reflect current conditions and allow orientation
and coordination of further actions towards sustainability.
❖Environmental audit results
Environmental auditing is the key process in the implementation of the
environmental and social management plan, of which the waste management
forms a part. The finding of each audit should be registered in a data base,
where corrective and actions are prescribed, responsibilities assigned to
people, deadlines established and necessary report minimised.
❖ Percentage waste generated.
During the operation phase, the quantities and types of wastes produced
should be tracked for each department, and activities examined to identify
waste reduction opportunities. Specific reduction target ratios should be
determined and the rate of waste productions required to reduce annually
relative to production volumes.
❖RESPONSIBILITIES
The roles and responsibilities inherent to the waste management plan are
presented in the table below.
responsibilities
Alpha adventure safaris ● Enforce the waste
management plan
● Contractually obligate the
enterprises to meet the
requirements of the waste
management plan
● Manage the solid management
area
● Appoint an appropriate
contractor
● Manage the recycling and
recovery area.
7. Page 7
Enterprises ● Provide a minimum of two
garbage receptacles to each
waste generator to allow wet
and dry segregation
● Educate all staff members on
waste hierarchy
Contractors ● Provide a minimum of two
garbage receptacles to each
waste generator to allow wet
and dry segregation
● Develop a site-specific
management plan for the
activities the contractor is
undertaking
● Educate all staff members on
waste hierarchy
❖Record keeping
Data on waste production and disposal should be gathered continually via
logbooks and registers
Records should be maintained on site and made available to the alpha
adventure safaris, authority and any other party assess the waste management
practices on site. The data should include the final destination of each waste
stream and where disposal has occurred proof of safe disposal will be required
e.g. data stamp waste disposal ticket issued by a sanitary landfill.
❖Review process
The waste management plan is to be reviewed and updated on an annual basis.
