JOB SUMMARY
Act as liaisons, under the supervision of the Director of Guest Relations, between The
Methodist Hospital Administration and patients, physicians, and other hospital personnel
to ensure a satisfying hospital experience for these patients from admission through
discharge. As patient advocates, the liaisons enable patients and their families to obtain
solutions to problems by acting in their behalf. Liaisons serve as Rights Protection
Officers for Psychiatry according to the Texas Department of Health regulations.
Liaisons take 24-hour call as assigned. This position functions strictly as a liaison and
does not participate in hands-on patient care. The Liaisons assigned to Waiting Areas
act as monitors for those areas for TMH Facilities and Building Services.
PATIENT AGE GROUP SERVED
Adult, geriatric, and occasionally pediatric patients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1) EF Patient Advocate
2) EF Rights Protection Officer for Psychiatry
3) EF Manages formal patient complaint process
4) EF Counsels with patients/patient families
5) EF Demonstrates critical thinking and expert problem-solving skills
6) EF Demonstrates the components of I CARE values
7) EF Follows safety rules. Reports accidents and hazards immediately
to management and peers
8) Visits new patients daily
9) Takes 24-hour call as assigned
10) Demonstrates components of the ICARE values statement.
11) Follows all safety rules while on the job.
12) Performs other duties as assigned.
2. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree required. In lieu of a degree, 10 years of health care experience, at
least 5 of which is in counseling, will be considered.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 10 years of health care experience and/or patient counseling.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Current certification in basic Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Experience in patient counseling or related problem-solving experience.
Critical thinking skills and mature judgment required.
Must have the ability to act independently.
Must embrace the I CARE Values.
Computer competency in Respond 3 and HIS.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, and sit for lengths of time.
