World War I DBQ
This paper focuses on the underlying causes of world war I instead of just immediate causes. In this article, I will answer the question what were the
underlying causes of world war I. ("DBQ: What Were the Underlying ...", 2010, p. Doc 1) Some of these causes consist of militarism, nationalism, and
imperialism. The immediate causes of the war were the ones that set it off but the underlying causes are the ones that had been building up over time.
("DBQ: What Were the Underlying ...", 2010, p. Doc 1)
Imperialism is a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. Imperialism played a huge role in the causes
of world war I and was mostly from Germany and Serbia. This also means smaller states had to fight for freedom or life. Through this most imperialists

Militarism is also a big cause of world war I, because before, throughout, and after the war countries were building up their armies. ("DBQ: What
Were the Underlying ...", 2010, p. Doc 1) militarism also played a big part in allies between countries.
Nationalism is patriotic feeling, principles, efforts or having pride in your country. nationalism was another big part in world war I. ("DBQ: What
Were the Underlying ...", 2010, p. Doc 1) If it was not for the pride in one's countries, there would be total chaotic war. There was total war because
of imperialism also. Because of this soldiers were ready to run towards the front lines and risk his life for his country.
This paper has hopefully explained some of the underlying causes in world war I. These were nationalism, militarism, imperialism, and allies. These
causes built up over a long period to finally lash out and cause total war. The war was inevitable but the question was really when it would lash

World War I, also known as the First World War, and (before 1939) the Great War, the War of the Nations, and the War to End All Wars, was a world
conflict lasting from August 1914 to the final Armistice (cessation of hostilities) on November 11, 1918.
The Allied Powers (led by the British Empire and France, and, after 1917, the United States) defeated the Central Powers (led by the German Empire,
Austria–Hungary and the Ottoman Empire), and led to the collapse of four empires and a radical change in the map of Europe. In this report I am
going to tell you about how it all started, participants of the war, advantages and disadvantages of the war, strategies, and political and military leaders.

With the demise of Italy, Germany and Japan each functioned as separate powers, each conducting the war in their own places (Germany in Europe
and Japan in the Pacific). There were a number of smaller powers on the side of the Axis, although for the most part the war effort was directed and
powered by Germany and Japan.
Like the Axis, the Allies were not a fully cohesive alliance. The original Allied countries, bound by their commitment to the security of Poland, were
led by the United Kingdom and France. As other countries were invaded by Nazi Germany, they were added to the Allied ranks. The fall of France left
the United Kingdom as the sole remaining major country of the Allies. Most of the time left consisted of the British Commonwealth and forces
commanded by different governments–in–exile.
Advantages and disadvantages of the Great War (world war I). Some of the advantages for us were that we had so much steel. I mean so much that
we didn't know what to do with it. We would even have to throw away some of the things that our factories produced. Another advantage was that we
had a lot of support from the women that would work in the industries making bullets, stitching clothes, filling canteens, and screwing on bolts on the
planes, jeeps, cars, tanks, and anything else that need to be done. Some of the disadvantages for the U.S. was a money problem we were already in

DBQ Essay
World War I was the result of leaders' aggression towards other countries which was supported by the rising nationalism of the European nations.
Economic and imperial competition and fear of war prompted military alliances and an arms race, which further escalated the tension contributing to the
outbreak of war. One cause of the World Warwas militarism, which is a policy in which military preparedness is of primary significance to a situation.
Another cause of the World War was nationalism. Nationalism is the pride and devotion form one towards his/her country. It played a great part in the
causes of World War 1 because citizens wanted to stand up for their country, and fight for them. The third

With fighting and war, it made the expenditures raise at an extremely rapidpace for all consumers in these countries. Great Britain, Germany, and
France all have the most intense growth in prices. If these three countries want to have a superior navy and army, then they are going to have to have
much expenditure towards this accomplishment. Great Britain has had a $4.69 increase (from year 1870 $3.74 to year 1914 – $8.23) for military and
weapon purposes. For using this towards militarism, that is a cause of the World War. These increases of money prices have raised the chance of
war because if people pay around you, you can advance in building your better army. (Document 1) All European Countries are responsible for the
outbreak of World War 1 because all of these countries did things to lead up to war, but "failed to do certain thinks which might have prevented [the
war]". They think that every military group is the cause of the whole beginning of the war (Document 6).
Every country that was included in World War 1 used nationalism to get them pumped for war. "... Germany and its people, who were convinced that
they fought a war of defense, were only guilty." (Document 5) Nationalism also posed a problem for Austria–Hungary and the Balkans, areas
comprised of many conflicting national groups. It made them battle because they
