Essay On Counselling Skills
1. Essay on Counselling Skills
The counselling process is based on the exchange of emotions between the client and the counsellor which aims to form an alliance (Hough, 1998). It
involves the counsellor using skills in which they possess in order to communicate effectively with clients (Hough, 1998). This reflective essay
clearly articulates my application of counselling skills used in this practice session and suggestions for improvement. It will provide a summary of the
session, identification of a range of skills used and a brief explanation of the reasons for using the skill. It will also provide an evaluation of my
application of the skills chosen, including verbatim examples, suggestions for improvement, also including verbatim examples to demonstrate what

A good way to let a client know you are listening is by the use of minimal responses including expressions and non verbal responses that occur in
our everyday conversations (Geldard & Geldard, 2001). For example at the beginning of the session my client said "..., Sometimes I feel I choose
my job or something else in my life over my uni..." I replied by nodding and made use of the expression "Mmâhmm". I demonstrated this skill to allow
the client to speak without interruptions and to verbally express my interest in her issue. Another skill I used within this session is a technique
also known as paraphrasing. Paraphrasing refers to stating in one's own words what they think the client means helping to ensure their
understanding and interest in the client (DeVito, 2010). I felt that I demonstrated this when the client said "As the term progresses I get lazier, but
at the beginning of the semester I am productive, and it feels rewarding when I do, do well and I feel better about myself and everyone is proud of
me as well when I get the results and stuff, but there's this thing that comes into my mind that said I can't do this and maybe I start rethinking about
staying in uni and I start considering dropping it, so I can have more free time." I reply by saying "Ok so you are saying that it is kind of a relief when
the work is done, however you are finding it hard to kind of keep up, and maybe you don't

2. Information Technology Essay
Information technology is a rapidly growing part of today's society. It affects everyone's life in many aspects. Every human endeavor is influenced by
information technology and the increasing rate at which what it can perform includes. One area of human endeavor that information technology has
greatly influenced is the practice of medicine, specifically veterinary medicine. Not only has veterinary medicine been influenced by information
technology, it has also been enhanced by it. The degree to which the practice of veterinary medicine includes information technology is observable at
the Animal Emergency Clinic of Central New York on Erie Blvd. in Syracuse, New York.

Working, volunteering and interning are all acceptable ways to gain experience in the field of veterinary medicine. The reason behind schools
requiring experience is to ensure that the student knows what they are getting into before they spend thousands of dollars (approx. $20,000/yr.) and at
least four years of their life in an extremely intensive academic environment. Many people have an altered idea of what being a vet is about. A lot of
physical and emotion endurance is necessary to be a successful veterinarian. Many people are unaware of that.
The specific undergraduate course requirements to get into a school of veterinary medicine vary between the schools. All of them are science intensive.
Most require a wellârounded education. The University of California at Davis school of veterinary medicine requires one year of general biology,
one year of general chemistry, one year of organic chemistry, and one year of physics as far as lower division requirements. Upper division
requirements include a semester of biochemistry, a semester of systemic physiology, a semester of vertebrate embryology, and a semester of genetics.
On top of that they want their applicants to have taken courses in English composition, humanities, social sciences as well as statistics. Simply taking
these courses is not enough, they need to be completed with a GPA above a 2.5. However, the competition has an average GPA of 3.45. The

3. What Is Religion? Essay
What is religion? Each person's definition of religion is different. Each person's faith is different. This is a question that has been asked for
centuries, and regardless of the answer given there is no right or wrong answer. Religion can be defined as a group of people who have shared
beliefs who feel their life has purpose or meaning. This feeling or belief that their life has meaning can come from outside of themselves, as well as
within. Taking this one step further, these shared beliefs put into action in the form of worship, can be easily identified because they happen regularly.
It can be said the Primal religions were in fact not religions. Some may argue Confucianism is not a religion. Others may say Taoism is not a...show

They are teachings learned by previous generations then passed down, they are not always actions. The fifth feature of religion is grace. Grace is
defined by Smith as "the belief and assurance that reality is on our side and can be counted on." Lastly there is mystery. For this there is no exact
definition, but it is all of what a religion cannot explain, it is all that the human mind cannot grasp, it is the certain "higher power" that religion offers.
Of these six features, there are three that are present in most all religions, they are: authority, tradition, and mystery. Authority, tradition, and mystery
further explore and define religion when looking specifically at Primal Religions, Confucianism, and Taoism. Primal Religions are often mistaken to
be the religion of the primitive man, often thought to be unintelligent. There is a definition of "primal" that is better suited than unintelligent or
primitive. Primal in terms of religion, refers to the lack of exposure to technology, it is not "knowing" the state of consciousness given to many by
the technological environment. Primal religions preceded organized religion as we know it today by thousands of years, in some cases millions, but
are still present in the world today; we now call them tribal religions. Within primal religions there are people who are knowledgeable about life, who

4. Essay about Training and Development
Training and development has become increasingly essential to the success of modern organisations, yet some still look at training as a problem or as
something that is not taken seriously. Training and development is one key approach used by organisations to improve and maintain the capabilities of
its workforce. However, many experts distinguish between training and development, being that training tends to be more closely focused and adapted
towards shortâterm performance concerns, while development tends to be adapted more towards expanding an individual's skills for future
responsibilities (Snell and Bohlander 2007). The main reason that organisations train their employees is to bring their knowledge, skills and abilities up

Furthermore, spoiled work, damages, and accidents to equipment and machinery can be kept to a minimum by well trained employees, continued
training helps employees develop their ability to learn by adapting themselves to new work methods, learning to use new kinds of equipment, and
adjusting to major changes in work relationships and job content, also, through training, new employees learn to measure up to standards for
performance, thereby satisfying their human need for personal growth and increasing their value to the organisation (Pigors and Myers 1977).
Similarly, Longenecker and Fink (2005) assert that the benefits derived from training are manifold, and these include; exposure to new and better
practices and ideas for application, leads to reflection, selfâappraisal and retrospection, motivates employees to improve performance, encourages
career development planning, helps identify specific performance problems and challenges an employee to think differently, to name a few. Other
benefits are a more flexible workforce, improved performance of existing employees, decreased supervision, higher skill levels and reduced learning
time, thus reducing learning costs, improved organisation morale, and to ensure for succession (Molander 1989).

7. Diamonds Essay
Diamonds
Introduction For centuries, cultures have regarded diamonds as beautiful, magical, mysterious, and powerful. These precious stones have been sought
after, fought over, and worshiped. Diamonds are associated with wealth, achievement, status, and love. The meaning and rarity of diamonds brings
about much to consider when making a purchase. The rough gemstones must first be mined and cut. Once cut, diamonds are appraised to determine
their value. Some of them undergo treatments to augment their appearance. Diamonds progress through these processes to be transformed into
beautiful valuable pieces of personal adornment.

The extraction of the diamond from the concentrate was formerly done by hand. Extraction from the matrix is now done by putting the concentrate on
a vibrating belt greased with fatty substances that are adhesive to diamonds. Further separation is done by optical selection with the use of photocells
and xâray technologies. On average one ton of diamond ore yields half a carat of diamond (one or more diamonds adding up to less than the volume
of a pencil eraser). (Levinson 246) Cutting
Once the rough gemstones are extracted, they must be evaluated. The evaluation determines whether the diamonds are worth cutting for use in jewelry.
Only about 20 percent of diamonds mined are used for adornment purposes. The rest of them are ground up and used for grinding wheels, glasscutters,
milling cutters, and scientific purposes. The diamonds that are worth cutting are cut in a myriad of styles and shapes. The brilliant cut is the most
common, as shown in figure one.

There are several steps to cutting and polishing a diamond. The laps (cutting wheels) used in the process are all coated with diamond because the only
material hard enough to cut diamond is another diamond. First, the rough diamond is cleaved. This means that the gemstone is sawn to prepare it for
initial shaping. Once cleaved, the gem goes through the bruting process where it is given a shape

8. Literacy Narrative Essay example
At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward reading and writing; more so towards reading.
Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very
basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the
severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in my
everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into the action unless it relates to something I am very...show

You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the same person that I was. I guess you could say it's
part of growing up. It never really was intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing are very
different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write
because I believe it is one of the most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally.
To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have
to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing
assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar.
The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class
simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to
write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the

9. Essay on Divorce
Broken families are on since the beginning of humanity. In fact, divorce, which has been very common in today's societies, is the major cause that
leads to family devastation. However, although, in some cases, divorce is the only solution for a family to live in peace, one must think many times
before taking such decision, and that is because of many .
When life becomes unbearable between a women an her husband, they may think of divorce as being a fair solution for both of them to get their
"independence" and live a normal life, they may even think that it is suitable for their children. However, this is not the case , divorce may have some
serious consequences that can affect the whole society .
Many religions disapprove of divorce....show more content...
As declared before, divorce must remain the last decision to take by a couple, because of its dreadful consequences on the whole family.
Women, for instance, undergo enormous pain as a result of divorce. In most cases, law gives divorced women custody. Consequently, they find
themselves alone with their children, and hence obliged to look after them in a society where divorced women may be looked in a bad way. Besides,
most of divorced women don't have regular income, as they were financially depending on their husbands before divorce, so they have to work outside
home, without neglecting their duties toward their children, and this is very difficult to accomplish especially with the sexual harassment that becomes
very common. Emotionally speaking, a divorced woman feels as she was betrayed by her exâhusband .She may also start to hate all men, and this can
have direct effects on the way she rises her children.
It is believed that men are the least affected by divorce. However this doesn't mean that they do not suffer at all. Indeed, men suffer financially from
divorce; they are obliged to support their children as well as their exâwives. And because before divorce the responsibility was shared by both husband
and wife, divorced men cannot always afford to pay alimony, thus they may be

Feminism
Feminism is the belief that women should have economic political and social equality with men. This term also refers to a political movement that
works to gain equality within a male and female relationship. In a male and female relationship both the roles of the male and female should be equal.
Equal in many ways ten one: they should trust each other, share responsibilities, listen to one another, respect each other, and of course love one

Many times in life men do not think that women can do the same things that they can; whether it's picking up boxes or being president. There will
always be that "macho man" thought of the man being stronger than the woman. In many jobs women might do the exact same thing that men do
except men are getting paid more than women even if it is an insignificant amount, it happens in many places and even though many people
disapprove of it there are still jobs like that out there. And there are still employers who think that a woman should not be in the work force if so
