This was a school project I did with an incredible team. Thanks to Emily, Tasneem, and Erin, we finally made this fun story into storyboard animatics and have learned a lot along the way.

I learned a lot about communication and organization during the group
project. This was also the first group art project that I have been in and really
enjoyed working with Tasneem, Emily and Patty.
We were able to have meetings at least once a week even though there
were four of us and we have different schedules. We also had a discord group chat
which was really helpful to keep track of everything, get feedback in between
meetings, and ask questions if we needed help. I think that the team was really
helpful with trying to find solutions to problems. An example would be when I was
having trouble downloading storyboard pro. We talked about it in the chat and they
suggested I focus on other parts of the project until the meeting which was really
helpful. I also made sure to give them lots of updates in between then.
I also learned a lot about organization during the project. At the end of
each meeting we would discuss what we wanted to have finished for the next
meeting and we texted the discord in between meetings if we were worried about
the deadline or were stuck. There was also a schedule that we made at the
beginning of the quarter to help make sure that we spread out the work and it gave
us time to plan for if we ran into technical troubles or if some parts took longer than
we thought it would.
Emily Fabrizi
I really enjoyed working on our group project. Overall, I thought it was fun and a great
learning experience, and my group members are all really great and all helped contribute to
the end goal.
When it was first announced that we were working on a group project I was a little
disinterested, since I had just finished a quarter-long group project in my BUSI class during
Winter quarter and I really hated working on that project. I had no interest in it, and even
though my group members were pleasant people it was like pulling teeth trying to get them all
to work on the project. In this class however, I was much more interested in what we were
working on and I knew pretty early on that my group members were all team players and that
we were all going to get along and work together really well.
Some of the struggles I faced were mostly workload related. After the halfway point in the
quarter I was really stressed and overwhelmed with work, and even though I have pretty
good time management skills I felt like I was working on 4 different projects instead of the
usual 2 or 3 at a time for all of my classes because of this project. I went through a bit of a
burnout around the end of Week 6 and throughout Week 7 and 8 where the workload was
just too much. We also had some slight technical problems with two of our group members
but we worked around them pretty quickly.
Otherwise, I think this project was pretty successful. My group members and I were all really
organized and kept a pretty tight schedule for what needed to be done when. Even with that
tight schedule we were all willing to work with one another if someone needed some extra
time or couldn’t get something finished before the deadlines we set for ourselves. I really
enjoyed getting to collaborate with and create ideas with other people. I really liked the
direction we ended up going with for our story and animatic/storyboard and I think the end
result is going to look really great. (We’re not quite done yet at the time of writing but we’re
close.) I think the roles were split well between us all and I really feel like our entire
storyboard contains an even amount of work from all of us, no one person did less than
anyone else and everyone contributed greatly to our end product.
All in all this was a great project and I really appreciate my group members for being so nice
to work with.
Personal Reflections

This was a really great experience. First of all, my groups
members were so nice and helped me along the way.
I was really nervous when I got to know about the group
project. I had participated in Collab Fair before but this was
really intimate and totally different. Everyone is the group
had a great sense of awareness and we never had trouble
getting to a conclusion.
This project was really unique and refreshing because I
had never worked with music, not at least start
storyboarding from scratch with just a song. Even though I
was doing this class async, the members were great at
updating me with everything so I didn’t lose track. I gained
a new confidence with doing something new and I quite
enjoyed it. In terms of skills, I got a new perspective on my
work.
This was a great experience and I have definitely have
taken some amazing tips, skills and new friends.

Since it is my first storyboarding class, this is also my first storyboarding group project. It was fun
creating a story from music having no limitation to creativity, but what is special is that we got to gather
different ideas and suggestions from four people! Our group likes the idea of a spy dog and it ended up
being made into two-minute boards. Even though I rarely draw animals, and to draw animals in people’s
actions is challenging in itself, this project pushed me out of my comfort zone. It has been a tough
eight-week project, but I was excited for every group meeting because it is when we see our story
progressing step by step. I’m very lucky to have a great team. They are nice people and easy to work
with. Everyone cares about the project, and we work our best on this story. Consequently, I gained three
more good friends and many valuable lessons along the way from hard skills like pre-production pipeline
and Storyboard Pro to soft skills like teamwork and leadership.
The project taught me a lot about the workflow during the pre-production phase starting from
brainstorming ideas for the story, writing the script, designing characters and environments, to actual
storyboarding. As a production manager, I had to plan out the production, divide the work, and set
deadlines for things. This practices my management skills a lot both time management and people
management. This project was my first-time using Storyboard Pro and the struggles I faced taught me a
lot about the program. I also found that communication is the key to success. Whether we are having
issues or suggestions, being able to clearly and confidently speak up is important. It is crucial that
everyone on the team is on the same page, so we usually communicate with one another and
encourage one another to ask if there was any confusion. Furthermore, the communication also helped
us go through problems faster, working more efficiently.
There are several valuable soft skills involved in this project. First is a leadership skill. Production
manager should be the one who keeps track of the work, sets up meetings, and basically manages the
whole production overall. It is important to be mindful of the team; How is everyone doing or how are
they feeling about the work. Empathy is the key here. The members are taking three classes like me,
and I have to admit that studio classes could be heavy most times. If there are problems regarding the
schedule, I should patiently manage the pipeline, and sometimes troubleshooting. One big lesson I learn
about teamwork is to be aware that it is a “group” work and it has everyone’s part in it. The result would
not be 100% like what you usually do because it's a mixture of different ideas from different people,
therefore, to be open and have fun with the collaboration is important.
