6. How to use pencil colours?
• Draw a detailed and light sketch (you can use
the eraser if you want to lighter it even more)
• Remember: Textures are the combination of
light and shadow.
• You can make a colour palette, it helps to
approximate the final colour you will get with
your pencils
• Colour pencils are miscible, mix the colours :-)
7. Colour pencils tips!
• Keep the pencil well sharped for an uniform fills
• Always rotate the pencil (keeping it sharpened)
• Dark colours go first, but on light layers Identify the dark areas on
your reference
• Do not press the pencil to much
• Colour pencils have a overlap layer limit, in general, you can overlap 4
layers (depending on the pression you use it)
• You will be building colours by layering one over another, create your
own colours by mixing the pencils
• Pay attention on reference colours and try to copy them
• For the final and small details of light, you can use a white pen or white
ink like gouache
