2. WHAT IS MBBS?
About
Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, is the two first-
professional degrees in medicine and surgery awarded upon
graduation from medical school by universities in countries that
follow the tradition of the United Kingdom. The historical degree
nomenclature suggests that they are two separate undergraduate
degrees; however, in practice, they are usually treated as one and
conferred together, and may also be awarded at graduate-level
medical schools. In countries that follow the system in the United
States, the equivalent medical degree is awarded as Doctor of
Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). In the
province of British Columbia, Canada, osteopathic physicians, who
have not completed ACGME residency training are given a limited
license- they may not practice primary care obstetrics or surgery.
3. Usually, the minimum eligibility for the course
is 10+2 with subjects with a minimum of 50%
marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology(40%
for reserved category students). English is also
a mandatory subject for eligibility in many of
the universities and colleges. However, AIIMS
requires an aggregate of 60% for the general
category candidates and 50% for SC/ST

admission in any of the Medical Colleges is
10+2 with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and
Biology along with English. However, this is not
the only criteria for admission; the students
have to take an entrance exam in order to
prove themselves fit for the admission in any of
the medical Colleges
ELIGIBILITY
4. QUALIFICATION
Qualifying Exam: Students should have passed 12th level or its
equivalent from a recognized board or university.
Qualifying Subjects: Students should have passed with Physics,
Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology and English as mandatory
subjects in 12th level.
Qualifying Marks: Candidates in the 10+2 level should have obtained
50% marks taken together in PCB. Those who belong to unreserved/
ST/SC/OBC category should have obtained 40% marks and for PWD
candidates, it is 45% marks.
Foreign Nationals: Students who have been educated abroad and are
planning to take admission in medical colleges of India should have
passed their 12th level with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/
Biotechnology & English subjects with 50% marks recognized by AIU
as per MCI regulations
5. The M.B.B.S is a 5.5 year (4.5 years academic education + 1 year
mandatory internship) UG degree programmed leading to the
two degrees as Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
The M.B.B.S is one of the most sought courses after 12th
science in medical field. There are so many colleges and
universities from across the countries which are offering the
M.B.B.S course.The students, who have cleared the 10+2
examination and they had the Physics, Chemistry and Biology
in 12th stream, may go for the M.B.B.S degree course.
The M.B.B.S is the only course in India to become a medical
doctor. The M.B.B.S course contains the basic subjects like
physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy,
pharmacology and pathology.
It is the course with hands on training with 5.5 years long.

6. Appearing: Students appearing in the 12th level exams
will be also eligible to apply for NEET.
As per the orders of Honorable Supreme Court, there
will be a single medical entrance exam all over India
for admission into medical and dental colleges. The
colleges will not be able to conduct their own medical
entrance exam and thus all will accept students based
on National Eligibility cum Entrance Test 2022 (NEET)
Score. All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) is now
known as NEET. The total number of seats offered
under NEET is 84,649 which are distributed
accordingly
