Peer Tutor Report
Reflecting upon my first year as a peer tutor, I must say that it has been an excellent experience because of what it has provided me. Strictly speaking,
my ability to teach has improved, I have obtained many skills, and have found ways to use what I have acquired, to help me in the not–so–far future.
Walking into a learning center class brought a very unique learning experience that varied from other classrooms. This stems from the fact that this
class had many students all of different ages working on many different courses instead of one; some students would be in the classroom completing
math homework, while others would be studying for science. Consequently, I learned that every student varied in their ability to learn; some of the
younger students needed me to walk through questions step–by–step while most of the older students just required assistance on how to approach a
problem. Furthermore, there were students that had difficulty grasping concepts because of my teaching method. Subsequently, I learned how to assist
other students by applying the different types of learning methods. These learning methods essentially helped students use the strongest of their three
senses to their advantage....show more content...
This was partly because of my lack of patience; I was very eager to move on with a question and noticed a little bit of anger build up inside of me
when a student failed multiple times. Along with this lack of patience, I also noticed that I was completing small steps to a question in my head, rather
than on paper with the student. Consequently, the student was left in a state of confusion, and my presence was rather useless. Thankfully, as time
passed and I set out to fix these issues, my ability to teach and be helpful to my peers drastically increased. In the end, I acquired many useful teaching
methods and other skills that could aid me in the

My Peer Tutoring Class
After experiencing being a peer tutor my senior year, I think you should become one too. My peer tutoring class was Algebra 2. A class I did fairly
well in. I've learned lot of new things during this experience. I've learned that everybody learns differently, multiple people struggle with the same
thing whether it be procrastination, time management, or even listening. I've also learned how to apply these things to my studies as well. I learned
from their mistakes. I struggled with procrastination as well as listening in my own studies. So while I was helping them, I was also helping myself. I
also learned how to help students who learned in two completely different ways. One was a visual learner while the other was one

Reflective Essay On English 101
Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric,
provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a
clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject
matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also
improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate
language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there's always room
to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired
me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer.
Most of my English 102 writing projects are rhetorical arguments, intended to persuade the reader in one direction or another. Reflecting on the many
skills I honed in English 102, my predetermined use of rhetorical strategies (ethos, logos, pathos), developing a concise thesis statement, and clearly

Service Learning Reflection
The course objective for the class Service Learning in English is to increase one's knowledge about language arts tutoring through readings, discussion,
and experience working with teachers and a specific student struggling with academics as well as his/her work ethic. I was assigned to tutor Aaron
Ring, a freshman at Christel House Academy South, a nationally acclaimed award winning school. The school has a healthy and safe welcoming
environment that contains a diverse assortment of students and a 20:1 student–teacher ratio to allow teachers and students to build a close relationship.
The different rooms of the school were neat and well maintained. The classrooms were very clean with different lightings, colorful decorations, couches

When working with Aaron, I can understand how sometimes Mike felt more like a social worker than a teacher. Sometimes when I tutored Aaron,
I found our conversations lean more towards a personal topic. He works really hard and is engaged in his studies, however he sometimes asks me
questions that are personal. I don't mind when he does so, but sometimes I feel more like a mentor or social worker than a tutor. I enjoy helping
him outside of school because he is only a freshman and it is nice to have a different point of view sometimes. Rose showed me how it is okay to
sometimes set aside school and talk about personal topics and to help them for the future. Also, while tutoring at Christel House Academy, I was able
to relate how students sometimes are categorized rather than fostered to learn more. Struggling students, like Aaron, aren't getting the available
assistance they need to perform well in school. Because of the categorization, Aaron's grade are low, he is placed with others that are struggling, and is
defined as academically challenged by the institution. However, by tutoring and working with him to find different ways to teach him will benefit how
he learns in school. Overall, I had an amazing tutoring experience with Aaron and I learned a lot about English literacy education, as well as being more
than just a tutor for an adolescent. Service Learning in English increased my knowledge about language arts tutoring through readings, discussion, and
experience working with Aaron on academics, as well as his work ethic, and personal goals as a young

Essay On Tutoring Experience
Since beginning my peer tutoring placement I have performed new and unique tasks on a daily basis. At the start of the semester I primarily circulated
the classroom explaining concepts to students and answering their questions. As the semester progressed my activities have been refined to be more
efficient and effective at helping individual students. With the assistance of Ms. Randle I have been able to pinpoint individual students that would
benefit the most from my assistance. These students all have unique individual needs that I try to fine–tune my assistance to accommodate. I constantly
strive to better understand each individual's learning skills.
One example of a way I accommodate a certain student is by reading and writing for him. Early in the semester, it was noticed that this student
struggled to get work done. This was not due to a lack of understanding but instead due to issues writing down his ideas and reading the material. Ms.
Randle recommended that I focus my attention primarily on him as he needed the most one–on–one help of all the students in the class. Additionally, it
was noted that without my assistance he was in jeopardy of failing the class.
One strength of mine that I use to my advantage when performing this task is my strong reading skills. This...show more content...

had any issues with the homework or the worksheets they are working on. If the primary focus of that day is a working period then I will continue to
circulate and assist students with any issues. Otherwise, if the focus is a lesson day I will sit quietly while infrequently contributing to the class
discussion. Additionally, I will take notes so I can better understand the material to teach and so that if students miss the class they can have a copy of

My Video Editing Experience
A long time I decided to live the zombie life as a video editor and during that time I had to experience a lot of workflow to get good at it. In the
beginning of learning it was difficult and there were so many different programs to edit with, but during the time I did not know about which were
professional or not. For example, when I first started I used a program called Window Movie Maker, and without doubt it was not very useful since
there were only limited tools that the program holds; Since I did not know any better at the time I easily continued to work with the program for a
couple months, which was the most difficult start of my experience. For example, there were obstacles such as slow render, 15 effects or less, and
very rigid transitions from clips to clips. When it came to actual editing, I was amateurish as well, but that's normal for anyone that's new to a hobby
that they want to learn by experience; The way I synched the lyrics or beats to my clips were off at first, as well as the quality, which was poor. In
fact, I did not even know how to discover a source to download the type of footage I worked with at the time. After 3 or 4 months of editing, I
finally made my first friend that does the same hobby as me, and he then helped me locate high quality clips. My friend was from Germany and of
course I was from the United States, so we both helped each other grow as editors as time passed, even as it was difficult we had fun

I wanted to not only tutor him, but I wanted to be his mentor. Also, I wanted him to recognize the importance of school and understand the work
ethic he needs to go to college to achieve his goals. After tutoring Aaron and connecting with him, I was able to get more personal with him and
learn about his personal life. Luckily, we found commonalities and we built a strong relationship away from academics. Because of this interaction,
I found that I had the potential to not only be an effective tutor, but I could be a potential mentor for him. Aaron needed a mentor that has been
through some of the same issues he has been through. He needed a mentor that could lead him the correct way to achieve his goal of going to
college. Without hesitation, I gave him my cell phone number as a source of communication during our tutoring period and after our tutoring period.
Giving him my cell phone number has been very effective because he has asked questions via text messages about not only homework but college
and life in general. A mentor for Aaron could be a great source for his personal life and could also drive his academics, and I saw this after each tutoring

Online Learning Log Analysis
I especially admire how it is suggested that in our virtual campus we do not need to get dressed, hire a babysitter, drive to class, find a parking
space, go to class to earn a degree (Bethel, 2014, p.4). However, we do have to put in time to read our material that is provided to us (READ
section), watch a video in our ATTEND section, complete our assignments and communicate with our fellow classmates. Just because we are not
being present in a classroom we still have to do the work to earn our grades. The best tip from our Read section, I think, is to pay attention to word
count requirements and also to treat the Discuss forum with seriousness because it is apart of our academic learning. I always copy and paste
assignment instructions into Google Doc to begin my thinking, research, writing and proofreading. Making time to read and do the assignments is
another great tip I am going to use. Planning out a specific time and place for me to adhere to my online learning schedule is how I will apply this
and make myself be aware of my time being used with the thought of working towards my goals.

Are you going to personally try to adhere to all of the tips that our Read section suggests? I think that my main concern is paying attention to citing
references used correctly, time management and deadlines, and paying very close attention to word counts. Yes, these things are common sense, to
a certain degree. I feel that academic writing is something nobody is blessed with because it is something we learn. I try to refer to the Purdue
/OWL website to help me sometimes. A newly suggested site called Paperrater.com is very easy to use to spell check and plagiarism check. Our
facilitator suggested Paperrater.com and I really like how easy it is to use! I plan on using it

Online Community
After searching through various online communities, I finally found one that looked very interesting and informative to me, fitness.com. I chose an
online community in which I would not only gain helpful information and advice, but I could also communicate with people who are interested in
the same topic as I am. I knew right away that it was a community rather than just a typical webpage that someone had made. A community has
places where people can post messages on a discussion board, a chat room for people to talk instantly to one another, and a place where people can go
to anytime of the day to post messages. The site was available for anyone that was interested in fitness or nutrition facts. The online...show more

There were also articles that would help anyone with the questions they have about nutrition and/or fitness. They gave out important information for
almost every topic. I looked up a particular article titled, "Advantages through Fitness Training." It stated that injuries can be prevented through fitness
activity and it even motivated me to go to UREC, (the campus gym,) that day. Many other articles were also helpful, especially about nutrition. The Fit
Tips also provided me with quick little health and fitness advice and information, which helped me to remember certain things about fitness and
nutrition.
Although there were many advantages to the articles, test, and fit tips, there were some disadvantages to the online community. The different discussion
boards were not very useful. At times, people would mock those who were asking serious questions and looking for serious advice. Occasionally,
people would respond with helpful information, but not very often. A lot of the things people said were repetitive and not worth the time reading it.
When I posted a question on the Nutrition Board, I did not get positive feedback at all. One guy called me a moron, and another person told me
things that I knew already. Being called a moron did not make me want to continue going to the site. It showed that some people do not respect others

America, a country created by the outcasts of Europe in the 1700's, is a nation that consists of a diversity not known by any other country. Since
the first settlers travelled to this new nation, people from all over the world have come to this great country for many different reasons. Some
people come to make a better life for their families, some people come to experience freedom, some have come to stay alive and avoid genocide of
their own nation, in the past some have even been forced to come to America with their lives being changed forever. In schools today, we learn about

I was an outcast because I had come from another culture that these girls didn't quite understand. If they had been taught about different cultures in
their schools before college they would have been able to have a better understanding of where I came from which would have helped them not to
judge me so quickly. There are many ways a teacher can incorporate multicultural literature into a classroom. One of the more popular forms of
incorporating outside reading is through book clubs or literature circles. In literature circles the teacher brings in about four or five copies of four
or five different books. Before beginning to read the books, the teacher will give a brief description of each book to the class (Tompkins). It is
usually best if the teacher has already read each book so they can give a better overview of the book. After the students have had a chance to learn a
little about each book they will then choose their book, as well as other members for their group. Some teachers may make exceptions to the amount
of choices the students have, but the students should be given as much freedom as possible. Most times the books will each tell a story from the
perspective of someone from a different culture. The cultures represented may be the same cultures displayed in the classroom or different cultures. All
the books however, usually share a

Assignment Option Project
It started with a simple question. How should I design my lab report to fit the needs for a perfect score? The tutor looked at me with eyes filled with
bewilderment as she answered with a suggestion to look through my past work to see what I have been doing incorrectly. That began a series of events
that ultimately gave me an outlet for my passion. The very same passion that seems to go unnoticed by many I know. My passion to communicate with
and help others.
I feel this passion of mine goes ignored due to one important reason: I lacked an outlet. I have had my experiences with volunteering and working a
part–time job, but those experiences helping out others were missing something. They were missing what made me unique for doing the work, the
reason why I should be the one working there. I felt like I was doing something that did not fit the skills I had. With all those ideas floating around my
head, the first year of Post–secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) program began, where I was taking full–time college classes as a high school student.

Persuasive Essay On Online Education
Online education is helping many students get a better education. This can be for many reasons. Some reasons could include things like a more
flexible schedule. Of course their are some that believe that online schools are not a good option because they do not offer students face to face time
with teachers, but online schools can be a great way to educate the children of tomorrow because it allows for students in rural areas to get the same
education as somebody in the city and the flexible nature of online school allows students to have more time to be with their family, friends and to do
the activities they love.
One of the great things about online education is that it gives students in rural areas the same education as those in large urban areas. This is because
of many things but most importantly it is because online systems allow for more courses then a small town would be able to provide (Orgill, Jason,
and Douglas Hervey). Having more courses is important because it gives students the opportunity to take deep dives into areas that they are very
interested in. This is an opportunity that many students that live in rural areas don't get because there school simply does not have enough students to
provide those courses. Giving students in rural areas the same course opportunities as those in urban areas is just one of the reasons online education is
so important.
Another great thing about online education is that allows student athletes to have enough time with their families while also putting huge amounts
of time into training and school. The reason athletes get the time they need is because at an online school "you work at your own pace" And on
your own schedule (Snyder, Tom). I know from personal experience being a student athlete in a brick and mortar school is difficult. You wake up
early try and finish your homework, then go directly to school. Then after school you go to training and then more training then maybe you go to the
gym and then finally you get home and you are so tired you just fall into bed. This is really tough because you get hardly any time to spend with your
family and friend. In an online school system you can do your work wherever you are and whenever you have time. This

There are two types of learning systems most commonly used in the world, Online learning and Traditional classroom teaching. Online learning is
basically a system which involves electronic media and information. In simple it is getting training and communication research through electronic

have been provided are more than enough to cover up the cons. Online learning system is not perfect, it has some deficiencies, but it's definitely the
system of the future. Many people still prefer traditional universities as the best way to get knowledge and a degree but online education is also a
good proven alternative. Through online education students can study in the environment they find comfortable and the time they are free. All of this
is for free as most online course which universities offer don't have any fee or if some courses have then that is very less as compared to the price of

promise of online education is "providing learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms," which in
turn fosters the concept of "learning by doing." Many students find this engagement more useful and more

Essay The Virtual Field Trips
Introduction
Instructional technology has achieved great development in the last few decades, and Virtual Field Trips (VFTs) is definitely one of them. This paper
will mainly discuss the definition of VFTs, the reason why it is needed, example of its application with screen shots, advantages and disadvantages;
provide information on its future development as well as great resources links. Teachers and educationists will be interested most in this paper because
it will further their existing understanding of VFTs, show them the future directions as well as present them with several helpful and practical websites.
What is Virtual Field Trips (VFTs)?
Foley (2001) writes,
...Virtual Field Trips are explorations through the Web, typically

At its best, it should also allow interaction with the virtual environment through learners' participation, exploration, analysis and the learning and the
testing of skills both old and new. (John Stainfield& Peter Fisher& Bob Ford& Michael Solem, 2000).
The aim of VFT is not to replace field trips but "to introduce students to various aspects and develop some of the basic skills needed and to prepare
students for going into the field or as follow up exercises after a real field trip" (Gilmour, 1997, http://earth2.open.ac.uk/Skiddaw/Text/Skiddaw.html).
A second aim is to improve the efficiency of time that is spent in the field. VFTs can "replace or enhance background lecturing/information transmission
and so increase the time spent by students exploring specific issues in a more 'inquiry–based' manner both in the field and on campus"(Stainfield&
Fisher& Ford& Solem, 2000). By providing more of the lecture/background material on–line, students can study it before they come to class or depart
on a field trip. They can also review it after the trip.
The Reason why it is applied into classroom technology
1.The major reason why Virtual Field Trips is so popular today is the occurrence of the economic recession, because of which teachers had to reduce
the cost of education, including the funding that might have been spent on a real field trip.
2.Secondly, the development of web and instructional technology enables teachers

Genome Editing Essay
Introduction
Genome editing is a huge leap forward in science and medicine. Because of recent advances in technology, the study of genes and induced 'point'
mutations have led to the discovery and advancement of methods previously used in order to mutate genes. The development of Clusters of Regularly
Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPRs) and CRISPR associated system 9 protein (Cas9) technology is a hugely significant leap forward as
this is a tool that could potentially be used for the research into and hopefully the treatment of a range of medical conditions that are genetically
related. Cystic fibrosis (Schwank, G. et al, 2013), haemophilia and sickle cell disease are an example of some of the conditions that have the...show

Once the complex was bound to the DNA, a cut would be made to eliminate and destroy the invaders. 83% of archaeal genomes and 45% of bacterial
genomes (Shabbir, M. et al, 2016) were shown to be able to successfully utilize the CRISPR Cas9 system. These are very promising statistics, so it is
no wonder that there has been such an advancement in the past few years to bring this technology to eukaryotic cells, mammalian cells and eventually
human cells.
With the rate and volume that new experiments and experimental procedures are being tried and tested, it can be expected that a Nobel Prize will soon
be won for the discovery and advancement of this potential life–saving 'tool'. The category of Nobel Prize and who it potentially should be awarded to
are discussed later in this essay.
The Role of CRISPR/Cas9 as a Genome Editing Tool
There are three types of CRISPR systems. The Type II CRISPR system (where the interface is mediated by a single large protein in conjunction with
crRNA) is the simplest of the three and it is this one that has been the basis for genome editing.
The Cas9 protein is an enzyme that effectively acts as a pair of molecular 'scissors', cutting

Why Writing Center Analysis
As the opening of the Writing Center appears to be getting closer and closer I grow more and more nervous. I can't help but doubt my abilities and
wonder if I will be a decent writing tutor. The constant thoughts of what could go wrong are endless. A list of what is making me most anxious about
the opening could go on for forever, but for now I have my top three reasons.
First and foremost, I am most nervous about myself being a tutor. I don't know if I'll be able to even help. What if I read a paper and find nothing wrong
with it? They came in for help, and all I could find was a missing comma. What if I send them off and there was plenty wrong with their paper that I
just didn't catch? The student would never want to come back to the writing center. He/she wouldn't think we were helpful and we were just a waste of
time. Due to the fact that I couldn't assist a student in their paper, I could harm the writing center reputation. That makes me a lot more than just nervous.

sarcastic remark and the student may not catch the sarcasm. Worst of all, I may lose my patience and become frustrated with a slow, innocent student.
If anything remotely close to those situations occurred, I would feel absolutely terrible. Knowing that there's a possibility of me slipping up makes me

conducted on SurveyMonkey.com, seven out of fourteen people said they would prefer to be tutored by a peer over a professor. With this service the
aim is to do just that, to bring tutoring to a peer to peer experience instead of a normal peer to professor experience. With this the goal is to make it
easier for students to learn in a friendlier environment instead of a more judgmental or stricter environment that sometimes comes from tutoring from a
professor.
Secondly, is the possibility of creating a new friendship from the program.
With this program you receive the anonymous student's phone number which allows you to keep in touch with them past the first tutoring session,
however this is only done with the students consent. If the student would like to remain anonymous and keep their phone number private, we will

Peer Tutor Report

  • 1. Peer Tutor Report Reflecting upon my first year as a peer tutor, I must say that it has been an excellent experience because of what it has provided me. Strictly speaking, my ability to teach has improved, I have obtained many skills, and have found ways to use what I have acquired, to help me in the not–so–far future. Walking into a learning center class brought a very unique learning experience that varied from other classrooms. This stems from the fact that this class had many students all of different ages working on many different courses instead of one; some students would be in the classroom completing math homework, while others would be studying for science. Consequently, I learned that every student varied in their ability to learn; some of the younger students needed me to walk through questions step–by–step while most of the older students just required assistance on how to approach a problem. Furthermore, there were students that had difficulty grasping concepts because of my teaching method. Subsequently, I learned how to assist other students by applying the different types of learning methods. These learning methods essentially helped students use the strongest of their three senses to their advantage....show more content... This was partly because of my lack of patience; I was very eager to move on with a question and noticed a little bit of anger build up inside of me when a student failed multiple times. Along with this lack of patience, I also noticed that I was completing small steps to a question in my head, rather than on paper with the student. Consequently, the student was left in a state of confusion, and my presence was rather useless. Thankfully, as time passed and I set out to fix these issues, my ability to teach and be helpful to my peers drastically increased. In the end, I acquired many useful teaching methods and other skills that could aid me in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. My Peer Tutoring Class After experiencing being a peer tutor my senior year, I think you should become one too. My peer tutoring class was Algebra 2. A class I did fairly well in. I've learned lot of new things during this experience. I've learned that everybody learns differently, multiple people struggle with the same thing whether it be procrastination, time management, or even listening. I've also learned how to apply these things to my studies as well. I learned from their mistakes. I struggled with procrastination as well as listening in my own studies. So while I was helping them, I was also helping myself. I also learned how to help students who learned in two completely different ways. One was a visual learner while the other was one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Reflective Essay On English 101 Proficient writing is an essential skill in all aspects of academic and professional achievement. English 101, Introduction to Composition and Rhetoric, provided the framework to good writing, teaching me composition and rhetoric fundamentals, polishing up my grammar and style, and expressing a clear message. English 102, Composition, Rhetoric, and Research, continued to build on the skills I learned in English 101, focusing on the subject matter research process and employing various rhetorical and literary devices to better express a clear message to the reader. The course also improved my critical thinking capacity, allowing me to culturally evaluate my target audience, present logically flowing arguments using appropriate language and structure, and critically reviewing my writing projects for content and expression. Every writer inherently knows there's always room to improve and I hold fast to this mindset in all academic, professional, and personal writing projects. English 102 has both challenged and inspired me to grow into a much better writer than before I began the class, providing the necessary skills to be not just a good writer, but a great writer. Most of my English 102 writing projects are rhetorical arguments, intended to persuade the reader in one direction or another. Reflecting on the many skills I honed in English 102, my predetermined use of rhetorical strategies (ethos, logos, pathos), developing a concise thesis statement, and clearly defining Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Service Learning Reflection The course objective for the class Service Learning in English is to increase one's knowledge about language arts tutoring through readings, discussion, and experience working with teachers and a specific student struggling with academics as well as his/her work ethic. I was assigned to tutor Aaron Ring, a freshman at Christel House Academy South, a nationally acclaimed award winning school. The school has a healthy and safe welcoming environment that contains a diverse assortment of students and a 20:1 student–teacher ratio to allow teachers and students to build a close relationship. The different rooms of the school were neat and well maintained. The classrooms were very clean with different lightings, colorful decorations, couches for the...show more content... When working with Aaron, I can understand how sometimes Mike felt more like a social worker than a teacher. Sometimes when I tutored Aaron, I found our conversations lean more towards a personal topic. He works really hard and is engaged in his studies, however he sometimes asks me questions that are personal. I don't mind when he does so, but sometimes I feel more like a mentor or social worker than a tutor. I enjoy helping him outside of school because he is only a freshman and it is nice to have a different point of view sometimes. Rose showed me how it is okay to sometimes set aside school and talk about personal topics and to help them for the future. Also, while tutoring at Christel House Academy, I was able to relate how students sometimes are categorized rather than fostered to learn more. Struggling students, like Aaron, aren't getting the available assistance they need to perform well in school. Because of the categorization, Aaron's grade are low, he is placed with others that are struggling, and is defined as academically challenged by the institution. However, by tutoring and working with him to find different ways to teach him will benefit how he learns in school. Overall, I had an amazing tutoring experience with Aaron and I learned a lot about English literacy education, as well as being more than just a tutor for an adolescent. Service Learning in English increased my knowledge about language arts tutoring through readings, discussion, and experience working with Aaron on academics, as well as his work ethic, and personal goals as a young Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay On Tutoring Experience Since beginning my peer tutoring placement I have performed new and unique tasks on a daily basis. At the start of the semester I primarily circulated the classroom explaining concepts to students and answering their questions. As the semester progressed my activities have been refined to be more efficient and effective at helping individual students. With the assistance of Ms. Randle I have been able to pinpoint individual students that would benefit the most from my assistance. These students all have unique individual needs that I try to fine–tune my assistance to accommodate. I constantly strive to better understand each individual's learning skills. One example of a way I accommodate a certain student is by reading and writing for him. Early in the semester, it was noticed that this student struggled to get work done. This was not due to a lack of understanding but instead due to issues writing down his ideas and reading the material. Ms. Randle recommended that I focus my attention primarily on him as he needed the most one–on–one help of all the students in the class. Additionally, it was noted that without my assistance he was in jeopardy of failing the class. One strength of mine that I use to my advantage when performing this task is my strong reading skills. After this I circulate the classroom seeing if students had any issues with the homework or the worksheets they are working on. If the primary focus of that day is a working period then I will continue to circulate and assist students with any issues. Otherwise, if the focus is a lesson day I will sit quietly while infrequently contributing to the class discussion. Additionally, I will take notes so I can better understand the material to teach and so that if students miss the class they can have a copy of what we learned that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. My Video Editing Experience A long time I decided to live the zombie life as a video editor and during that time I had to experience a lot of workflow to get good at it. In the beginning of learning it was difficult and there were so many different programs to edit with, but during the time I did not know about which were professional or not. For example, when I first started I used a program called Window Movie Maker, and without doubt it was not very useful since there were only limited tools that the program holds; Since I did not know any better at the time I easily continued to work with the program for a couple months, which was the most difficult start of my experience. For example, there were obstacles such as slow render, 15 effects or less, and very rigid transitions from clips to clips. When it came to actual editing, I was amateurish as well, but that's normal for anyone that's new to a hobby that they want to learn by experience; The way I synched the lyrics or beats to my clips were off at first, as well as the quality, which was poor. In fact, I did not even know how to discover a source to download the type of footage I worked with at the time. After 3 or 4 months of editing, I finally made my first friend that does the same hobby as me, and he then helped me locate high quality clips. My friend was from Germany and of course I was from the United States, so we both helped each other grow as editors as time passed, even as it was difficult we had fun Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I wanted to not only tutor him, but I wanted to be his mentor. Also, I wanted him to recognize the importance of school and understand the work ethic he needs to go to college to achieve his goals. After tutoring Aaron and connecting with him, I was able to get more personal with him and learn about his personal life. Luckily, we found commonalities and we built a strong relationship away from academics. Because of this interaction, I found that I had the potential to not only be an effective tutor, but I could be a potential mentor for him. Aaron needed a mentor that has been through some of the same issues he has been through. He needed a mentor that could lead him the correct way to achieve his goal of going to college. Without hesitation, I gave him my cell phone number as a source of communication during our tutoring period and after our tutoring period. Giving him my cell phone number has been very effective because he has asked questions via text messages about not only homework but college and life in general. A mentor for Aaron could be a great source for his personal life and could also drive his academics, and I saw this after each tutoring Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Online Learning Log Analysis I especially admire how it is suggested that in our virtual campus we do not need to get dressed, hire a babysitter, drive to class, find a parking space, go to class to earn a degree (Bethel, 2014, p.4). However, we do have to put in time to read our material that is provided to us (READ section), watch a video in our ATTEND section, complete our assignments and communicate with our fellow classmates. Just because we are not being present in a classroom we still have to do the work to earn our grades. The best tip from our Read section, I think, is to pay attention to word count requirements and also to treat the Discuss forum with seriousness because it is apart of our academic learning. I always copy and paste assignment instructions into Google Doc to begin my thinking, research, writing and proofreading. Making time to read and do the assignments is another great tip I am going to use. Planning out a specific time and place for me to adhere to my online learning schedule is how I will apply this and make myself be aware of my time being used with the thought of working towards my goals. Rick, What do you mean? You said, 'while you did not emphasize its importance'....what did you mean? Can you please explain...show more content... Are you going to personally try to adhere to all of the tips that our Read section suggests? I think that my main concern is paying attention to citing references used correctly, time management and deadlines, and paying very close attention to word counts. Yes, these things are common sense, to a certain degree. I feel that academic writing is something nobody is blessed with because it is something we learn. I try to refer to the Purdue /OWL website to help me sometimes. A newly suggested site called Paperrater.com is very easy to use to spell check and plagiarism check. Our facilitator suggested Paperrater.com and I really like how easy it is to use! I plan on using it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Online Community Essay Online Community After searching through various online communities, I finally found one that looked very interesting and informative to me, fitness.com. I chose an online community in which I would not only gain helpful information and advice, but I could also communicate with people who are interested in the same topic as I am. I knew right away that it was a community rather than just a typical webpage that someone had made. A community has places where people can post messages on a discussion board, a chat room for people to talk instantly to one another, and a place where people can go to anytime of the day to post messages. The site was available for anyone that was interested in fitness or nutrition facts. The online...show more content... There were also articles that would help anyone with the questions they have about nutrition and/or fitness. They gave out important information for almost every topic. I looked up a particular article titled, "Advantages through Fitness Training." It stated that injuries can be prevented through fitness activity and it even motivated me to go to UREC, (the campus gym,) that day. Many other articles were also helpful, especially about nutrition. The Fit Tips also provided me with quick little health and fitness advice and information, which helped me to remember certain things about fitness and nutrition. Although there were many advantages to the articles, test, and fit tips, there were some disadvantages to the online community. The different discussion boards were not very useful. At times, people would mock those who were asking serious questions and looking for serious advice. Occasionally, people would respond with helpful information, but not very often. A lot of the things people said were repetitive and not worth the time reading it. When I posted a question on the Nutrition Board, I did not get positive feedback at all. One guy called me a moron, and another person told me things that I knew already. Being called a moron did not make me want to continue going to the site. It showed that some people do not respect others when they are trying to be serious and receive Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Online Reading Essay Online Reading Essay America, a country created by the outcasts of Europe in the 1700's, is a nation that consists of a diversity not known by any other country. Since the first settlers travelled to this new nation, people from all over the world have come to this great country for many different reasons. Some people come to make a better life for their families, some people come to experience freedom, some have come to stay alive and avoid genocide of their own nation, in the past some have even been forced to come to America with their lives being changed forever. In schools today, we learn about the reasons people come to this nation, but it's not often that we learn what happened after they arrived. Textbooks are often written to...show more content... I was an outcast because I had come from another culture that these girls didn't quite understand. If they had been taught about different cultures in their schools before college they would have been able to have a better understanding of where I came from which would have helped them not to judge me so quickly. There are many ways a teacher can incorporate multicultural literature into a classroom. One of the more popular forms of incorporating outside reading is through book clubs or literature circles. In literature circles the teacher brings in about four or five copies of four or five different books. Before beginning to read the books, the teacher will give a brief description of each book to the class (Tompkins). It is usually best if the teacher has already read each book so they can give a better overview of the book. After the students have had a chance to learn a little about each book they will then choose their book, as well as other members for their group. Some teachers may make exceptions to the amount of choices the students have, but the students should be given as much freedom as possible. Most times the books will each tell a story from the perspective of someone from a different culture. The cultures represented may be the same cultures displayed in the classroom or different cultures. All the books however, usually share a Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 12. Assignment Option Project It started with a simple question. How should I design my lab report to fit the needs for a perfect score? The tutor looked at me with eyes filled with bewilderment as she answered with a suggestion to look through my past work to see what I have been doing incorrectly. That began a series of events that ultimately gave me an outlet for my passion. The very same passion that seems to go unnoticed by many I know. My passion to communicate with and help others. I feel this passion of mine goes ignored due to one important reason: I lacked an outlet. I have had my experiences with volunteering and working a part–time job, but those experiences helping out others were missing something. They were missing what made me unique for doing the work, the reason why I should be the one working there. I felt like I was doing something that did not fit the skills I had. With all those ideas floating around my head, the first year of Post–secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) program began, where I was taking full–time college classes as a high school student. Through me struggling in my physics class I finally found my answer. I wasn't able to get...show more content... I finally found a place where I fit, tutoring, where I used my knowledge for the benefit of others. Whether it was helping an ELL student with prime factorization by conversing in a mix of Somali and English, or explaining how a slope works to one of my fellow high school peers, I did my best to make an impact on someone's life. Whenever I tutor students, I feel the same kind of pride a parent would feel when they see their children succeed. The activity itself requires a combination of my innate kindness, and strive to learn new things, as well as my ability to communicate with others. It's something I enjoy and plan on doing at the university. I want to change a student's life just as Cecilia changed Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Persuasive Essay On Online Education Online education is helping many students get a better education. This can be for many reasons. Some reasons could include things like a more flexible schedule. Of course their are some that believe that online schools are not a good option because they do not offer students face to face time with teachers, but online schools can be a great way to educate the children of tomorrow because it allows for students in rural areas to get the same education as somebody in the city and the flexible nature of online school allows students to have more time to be with their family, friends and to do the activities they love. One of the great things about online education is that it gives students in rural areas the same education as those in large urban areas. This is because of many things but most importantly it is because online systems allow for more courses then a small town would be able to provide (Orgill, Jason, and Douglas Hervey). Having more courses is important because it gives students the opportunity to take deep dives into areas that they are very interested in. This is an opportunity that many students that live in rural areas don't get because there school simply does not have enough students to provide those courses. Giving students in rural areas the same course opportunities as those in urban areas is just one of the reasons online education is so important. Another great thing about online education is that allows student athletes to have enough time with their families while also putting huge amounts of time into training and school. The reason athletes get the time they need is because at an online school "you work at your own pace" And on your own schedule (Snyder, Tom). I know from personal experience being a student athlete in a brick and mortar school is difficult. You wake up early try and finish your homework, then go directly to school. Then after school you go to training and then more training then maybe you go to the gym and then finally you get home and you are so tired you just fall into bed. This is really tough because you get hardly any time to spend with your family and friend. In an online school system you can do your work wherever you are and whenever you have time. • 14. There are two types of learning systems most commonly used in the world, Online learning and Traditional classroom teaching. Online learning is basically a system which involves electronic media and information. In simple it is getting training and communication research through electronic media. It would not be wrong to call online learning, the 'future of education'. Online learning does have some weak points, but the solutions that have been provided are more than enough to cover up the cons. Online learning system is not perfect, it has some deficiencies, but it's definitely the system of the future. Many people still prefer traditional universities as the best way to get knowledge and a degree but online education is also a good proven alternative. Through online education students can study in the environment they find comfortable and the time they are free. All of this is for free as most online course which universities offer don't have any fee or if some courses have then that is very less as compared to the price of normal course at a university. This is the reason which gives online education an edge over traditional classroom learning. By using online education students can...show more content... First, rather than being tethered to a specific time allotment, the online degree seeker is able to learn with complete flexibility. This is ideal for those with unconventional work hours, those working full time, serving in the military or those raising a family. Moreover, the traditional method of lectures, books and desks may not be the optimum learning environment for every student. In a New York Times article, experts declared that the real promise of online education is "providing learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms," which in turn fosters the concept of "learning by doing." Many students find this engagement more useful and more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. AVID Tutor Essay AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) I am an AVID Tutor at my old high school Sierra Vista High School in Baldwin Park. This is going to be my second year working at SVHS and so far I love working at this school and helping the students. I work with sophomore, junior and, senior students. AVID is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. It is also a program that motivates students to try to go to college. As an AVID tutor, I am responsible for helping the students by tutoring them in small groups in a specific subject matter (Math –History) by using homework/lesson discussion in groups. We use the Socratic questioning to get students to think critically about a problem they are struggling on and help them when they really cannot solve the question they have. I try to find resources (videos, notes, textbooks) to help the students get a better understanding of their question. Every Friday I grade...show more content... I helped sophomore students mainly in World History. I would help them with their homework, essays, and helped them review for their history exams. Sierra Vista High School–Senior English Helper–February 2016–April 2016 I helped the SVHS seniors these past months in developing a research paper for their English class and graduation requirement. I would edit and provide feedback on student essays and helped students improve their writing. • 16. Essay The Virtual Field Trips Introduction Instructional technology has achieved great development in the last few decades, and Virtual Field Trips (VFTs) is definitely one of them. This paper will mainly discuss the definition of VFTs, the reason why it is needed, example of its application with screen shots, advantages and disadvantages; provide information on its future development as well as great resources links. Teachers and educationists will be interested most in this paper because it will further their existing understanding of VFTs, show them the future directions as well as present them with several helpful and practical websites. What is Virtual Field Trips (VFTs)? Foley (2001) writes, ...Virtual Field Trips are explorations through the Web, typically ...show more content... At its best, it should also allow interaction with the virtual environment through learners' participation, exploration, analysis and the learning and the testing of skills both old and new. (John Stainfield& Peter Fisher& Bob Ford& Michael Solem, 2000). The aim of VFT is not to replace field trips but "to introduce students to various aspects and develop some of the basic skills needed and to prepare students for going into the field or as follow up exercises after a real field trip" (Gilmour, 1997, http://earth2.open.ac.uk/Skiddaw/Text/Skiddaw.html). A second aim is to improve the efficiency of time that is spent in the field. VFTs can "replace or enhance background lecturing/information transmission and so increase the time spent by students exploring specific issues in a more 'inquiry–based' manner both in the field and on campus"(Stainfield& Fisher& Ford& Solem, 2000). By providing more of the lecture/background material on–line, students can study it before they come to class or depart on a field trip. They can also review it after the trip. The Reason why it is applied into classroom technology 1.The major reason why Virtual Field Trips is so popular today is the occurrence of the economic recession, because of which teachers had to reduce the cost of education, including the funding that might have been spent on a real field trip. 2.Secondly, the development of web and instructional technology enables teachers Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Genome Editing Essay Introduction Genome editing is a huge leap forward in science and medicine. Because of recent advances in technology, the study of genes and induced 'point' mutations have led to the discovery and advancement of methods previously used in order to mutate genes. The development of Clusters of Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPRs) and CRISPR associated system 9 protein (Cas9) technology is a hugely significant leap forward as this is a tool that could potentially be used for the research into and hopefully the treatment of a range of medical conditions that are genetically related. Cystic fibrosis (Schwank, G. et al, 2013), haemophilia and sickle cell disease are an example of some of the conditions that have the...show more content... Once the complex was bound to the DNA, a cut would be made to eliminate and destroy the invaders. 83% of archaeal genomes and 45% of bacterial genomes (Shabbir, M. et al, 2016) were shown to be able to successfully utilize the CRISPR Cas9 system. These are very promising statistics, so it is no wonder that there has been such an advancement in the past few years to bring this technology to eukaryotic cells, mammalian cells and eventually human cells. With the rate and volume that new experiments and experimental procedures are being tried and tested, it can be expected that a Nobel Prize will soon be won for the discovery and advancement of this potential life–saving 'tool'. The category of Nobel Prize and who it potentially should be awarded to are discussed later in this essay. The Role of CRISPR/Cas9 as a Genome Editing Tool There are three types of CRISPR systems. The Type II CRISPR system (where the interface is mediated by a single large protein in conjunction with crRNA) is the simplest of the three and it is this one that has been the basis for genome editing. The Cas9 protein is an enzyme that effectively acts as a pair of molecular 'scissors', cutting Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Why Writing Center Analysis As the opening of the Writing Center appears to be getting closer and closer I grow more and more nervous. I can't help but doubt my abilities and wonder if I will be a decent writing tutor. The constant thoughts of what could go wrong are endless. A list of what is making me most anxious about the opening could go on for forever, but for now I have my top three reasons. First and foremost, I am most nervous about myself being a tutor. I don't know if I'll be able to even help. What if I read a paper and find nothing wrong with it? They came in for help, and all I could find was a missing comma. What if I send them off and there was plenty wrong with their paper that I just didn't catch? The student would never want to come back to the writing center. He/she wouldn't think we were helpful and we were just a waste of time. Due to the fact that I couldn't assist a student in their paper, I could harm the writing center reputation. That makes me a lot more than just nervous. ...show more content... I am a very sarcastic and blunt person. I also tend to makes jokes a lot and am rarely serious. Along with that, I am not very patient. I can control several aspects of my personality, but I'd hate to slip up during a tutoring session. I could be too blunt and hurt someone's feelings. I might make a sarcastic remark and the student may not catch the sarcasm. Worst of all, I may lose my patience and become frustrated with a slow, innocent student. If anything remotely close to those situations occurred, I would feel absolutely terrible. Knowing that there's a possibility of me slipping up makes me Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The actual upsides of having a fellow peer tutor you in a subject. In an anonymous survey conducted on SurveyMonkey.com, seven out of fourteen people said they would prefer to be tutored by a peer over a professor. With this service the aim is to do just that, to bring tutoring to a peer to peer experience instead of a normal peer to professor experience. With this the goal is to make it easier for students to learn in a friendlier environment instead of a more judgmental or stricter environment that sometimes comes from tutoring from a professor. Secondly, is the possibility of creating a new friendship from the program. With this program you receive the anonymous student's phone number which allows you to keep in touch with them past the first tutoring session, however this is only done with the students consent. If the student would like to remain anonymous and keep their phone number private, we will contact them with a location and time to meet their tutor.
