The Medicinal Plant Of Medicinal Plants
What is your favorite medicinal plant? There are hundreds of medicinal plants throughout the world and have been used for thousands of years by
many people. There are numerous of medicinal plants still used today and we are constantly finding new uses for these plants. Medicinal plants are
common plants that most people use every day, but you do not know that they are in your vitamins and other medicines. One such plant is the Blood
Flower which is a very beautiful flower that has very important medicinal purposes and has interesting facts that the vast majority of the population
does not know.
The beautiful Blood Flower is sometimes called, Silky Milkweed, Common Milkweed, Tropical Milkweed, Cotton Bush, Garden Silkweed, Redhead or

It has naturalized in subtropical and tropical regions and has been growing like a weed in those countries (Asclepias curassavica (bloodflower), 2017). It
is actually considered to be one of the worst weeds in Australia. It is an invasive species so it is lives almost everywhere where it can survive. The
seeds travel a very long distance because of the wind (Asclepias curassavica (bloodflower), 2017).
The Blood Flower is a beautiful flower that looks like a tiny sun because of its vibrant colors. The actual bud of the flower before it blooms is a
gorgeous light red or purple. The petals of the flower are bright orange and the bloomed bud is yellow (Blood Flower, 2017). Like most other plants
and weeds, the Blood Flowers stem and the leaves beneath the flower are green. It can grow to be as short as one foot or as tall as three feet from the
ground up to the end of the flower. It can be one foot wide or grow as wide as two feet wide from one leaf to the other (Blood Flower, 2017). The
flowers on the plant are a lot shorter than the leaves and are also a lot smaller. The flowers have two different layers, the yellow one which is a lot
smaller and is on top and the orange one which is bigger and is on bottom. The yellow flowers house the pistol and stamen. The Blood Flower blooms
during mid–summer but does not have to bloom during mid–summer and might bloom in the spring or fall (Blood Flower, 2017).

Herbs as Medicine Essay
Herbs as Medicine
For more than two thousand years, traditional Chinese medicine has relied on plants and herbs to cure minor and severe ailments and keep the body
healthy. There are thousands of herbs from which to choose. Some have become rather well known, but most spend far less time in the limelight.
Herbal remedies have proven effective in helping the body maintain good health during pregnancy and in healing serious illnesses such as cancer and
heart disease when they do occur.
There are many medicinal benefits that herbs provide in the prevention and fight against heart disease. To combat the disease effectively, patients of
heart disease must have a strong heart. Hawthorne berries are used to restore the heart muscle...show more content...
Herbs offer hope for reducing the risk of heart disease and may also benefit those already affected by it.
Cancer is another serious disease that herbs can provide medicinal benefits. Not only can herbs provide help in the prevention of cancer, but also in
the treatment and providing comfort from the side effects of treatment. Both chaparral and dandelion provide help in the prevention of cancer.
Dandelion aids in the prevention of breast cancer and chaparral protects against the formation of tumors and cancerous cells. Chaparral also protects
cancer patients from the harmful effects of radiation. Both garlic and pau d'arco are good for tumors and cancer and aid in the treatment of cancer.
Cancer patients suffer from horrible side effects of the treatment of cancer and fennel has been found to be good for the patient after chemotherapy and
radiation to calm the side effects. When used in conjunction with conventional anticancer therapies, herbs appear to inhibit the proliferation of some
cancer cells and may help counteract the undesirable toxic effects of chemotherapy and radiation.
A woman's health is very important when she becomes pregnant and herbs can be an aid in all stages of pregnancy. Conception can sometimes be a
difficult thing if things aren't "just right," but dong quai has been found to increase the effects of ovarian and testicular hormones. After becoming
pregnant, morning sickness is an annoying

Case Study On Herbal Medicine
Abstract
This focuses on the truth of herbal medicines, specifically a case study about two herbs which are Oregano and Annona Squamosa. This study will
show that even though 80% of the world population are already considering herbal medicines as a medicinal tool, marketing it is still considered as
unethical in the latter category for health care purposes. One of the reason for this is due to some secretion of toxins by plants itself and also some
have rare placebo effects. Expectancy theorists believe that expectation is one of the important variables to draw out the expected effect to the
recipient, the called this phenomenon as the Expectancy theory. But these reasons were not hindrance for importation of herbal medicines in other
countries...show more content...

properties, rather than as a seasoning and spice. It states that it contains a rosmarinic acid compound, carvacrol, and thymol which are responsible for
its anti–flammatory, anti–bacterial, anti–oxidant, anti–fungal and anti–viral properties. The extracted juice from this herb is used for treating asthma,
chronic coughs, bronchitis, and other respiratory tract

C.In the 16–1800s having a garden was thought to be a necessity of life says Martha White in Traditional Home Remedies. (White 2000)
1.Depending on what each person's purpose was for having a garden, each garden would have different elements. A nurse or midwife would have
medicinal herbs, a spinner or weaver would have dye plants, or a decorative garden would have brightly colored flowers. (Pleasant 2004)
2.In 1651 the reference book Culpeper's Complete Herbal came out and created an even bigger community of avid herbal users. This book was the
most popular herb book for decades.
D.Throughout the course of history, herbs started to receive a negative reputation due to practices like Native American medicine and Pagan
ceremonies becoming superstitious and almost taboo in modern culture.
1.In the 1960s there was a large population of people trying to become more Earth oriented and nature friendly, so the herbal culture exploded once
again.
2.Today herbs are more accepted for medicinal purposes, health purposes, and religious purposes.

The Benefits Of Herbal Medicine
Most patients now prefer herbal medicine as compared to medicinal drugs. They are becoming popular to treat everything from minor to major to
diseases. The reason why people are so into herbal medicine is because of their natural qualities that promote a healthy method of healing various
products.
Herbal medicines are great alternative for commercially manufactured medicines available in the market. The major reason why herbal medicine differ
from modern medicine is because they are produced with 100% natural content. Therefore the plant extract has all the medicinal values that are as
effective as modern medicine. Commercially prepared drugs show results quickly but have numerous side effects. However herbal medicines don't

Some of the major diseases that herbs cure are depression, weak immune system, prostate problems, cardiovascular diseases and inflammation. They
are used all over the world to treat untreatable conditions and diseases. Scientific research and study have also proven the efficacy of these herbal
products. Around 177 drugs have been approved to treat cancer all over the world and more than 70% of them are herbs and natural products.
Good for Health
Modern medicine and healthcare system have categorized herbal medicine as a natural remedy used when people can't afford to purchase conventional
drugs. They are perceived inferior because they cost less but the health benefits are endless. However, there have been various situations and instances
that prove that herbal medicine is good for health.
People need to realize that going against basic treatment is not always a bad thing. Not using synthetic drugs for treatment is a smart and healthy
choice. There are certain stigmas related to natural medicine, but being aware of the benefits may result in more people believing in these resources.
People have been using herbal medicines and plants long before synthetic medicine was designed.
Tailored According to the Needs
Unlike modern medicine, herbal drugs can be adjusted according to the condition of each patient. The diagnostic approach depends on the tailored

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Medicinal Plants
Medicinal plants are widely distributed in their natural form in markets, natural medicine shops and in the gardens of our houses, as well as in
standardized compounds of the active principle of the product in supermarkets, pharmacies, establishments dedicated to the promotion of natural
products and Including Internet sites. This facilitates the possibility of acquiring them without the need for a medical prescription, much less a

Hypericum perforatum is a compound of plant origin, called St. John 's Wort or Hypericum: it is a popular treatment for mild to moderate depression
which is also used to treat seasonal affective disorder and sleep disorders. Its mechanism of action is believed to have an affinity for many
neurotransmitters like inhibition of monoamine reuptake (serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine) and modulation of interleukin 6 activity.
Exacerbate mania, increase the risk of serotonin syndrome, Is believed to induce an increase in cytochrome P450 3A4 levels. The contraindications of
this herb are increased sleep and interactions with other medications such as antivirals and contraceptives that cause bleeding withdrawal and decreased
efficacy and of course during pregnancy due to its abortive properties. Increased sensitivity to UV rays, sexual dysfunction, dizziness, and headaches.
St. John 's Wort may also interact adversely with other medications such as oral contraceptives, so be sure to consult your doctor before using it.4

Medicinal Uses of Rainforest Plants Essays
Medicinal Uses of Rainforest Plants
It is estimated that nearly half of the world's estimated 10 million species of plants, animals, and micro–organisms will be destroyed or severely
threatened over the next quarter century due to rainforest deforestation. Rainforest plants are complex chemical storehouses that contain many
undiscovered compounds which are a vital part for the growth and development of the world. Therefore, we can only gain access and knowledge to
these materials if we study and conserve the species that contain them. Rainforests currently provide sources for one–fourth of today's medicines, and
70 percent of the plants found have anti–cancer properties. However, they are only found in the rainforest. The...show more content...
All forests have both economic and ecological value, but tropical rainforests are especially important in a global economy. Tropical forests provide
many valuable products including rubber, fruits, lumber, and medicinal herbs. However, these valuable natural products that the rainforests provide
have fallen victim to deforestation, and the rate of destruction is still accelerating. Unbelievably, over 200,000 acres of rainforest are destroyed every
day in the world. Therefore, one can imagine the vast amount of cures and experimental knowledge lost to the negligence of society.
The Amazon Rainforest is the world=s greatest natural resource and the sacred link between humans and nature. It supports millions of plant, animal,
and insect species and provides the essential environmental world service of producing more than 20 percent of the world=s oxygen. Yet, still it is
being destroyed just like other rainforests around the world. However, rainforests are being destroyed worldwide for the profits they yield with mostly
harvesting unsustainable resources like timber, for cattle and agriculture, and for subsistence cropping by rainforest inhabitants. Nevertheless, if land
owners, governments, and those living in the rainforest today were given a viable economic reason not to

Herbal Medicine Essay
Herbal medicine is the extraction of herbs or plants which have a medicinal value in treating illnesses and diseases (Brody 1). A herb is known as a
plant that does not have a woody stem and usually dies back at the end of each growing season. It is also known as a "natural" drug
because they are derived from nature. This is unlike pharmaceutical drugs, which are synthesized from chemicals.
Herbal medicine dates back a very long time. More than 4,000 years ago, the Chinese emperor Qien Nong put a book together, or a herbal, of different
medicinal plants (O' Sullivan 2). It contained descriptions of more than 300 plants. Some of these plants are still used...show more content...
Another study showed that last year more than 83 million (more than 40% adults) sought herbal medicine (and some other forms of alternative
medicine) for help (Beil 1). Also, another survey showed that last year there were more visits to herbalists (629 million) than primary care physicians
(386 million) (Tremmel 2). Though these results are surprising, they are true and they prove that herbal medicine and other forms of alternative
medicine are becoming a new popular way of staying healthy.
Herbal medicine is made of an extract taken from a plant (from the leaf, root, flower, and/or bark) used to treat an ailment. There are different types of
herbal medicine such as a capsule (i.e. Saw Palmetto), tea (i.e. Back cohosh), dried herbs (i.e. Valerian), and tonic (i.e. Oats). These herbs can have
many different effects on the human body. These can be good or bad. Some reactions are: helps fight viruses, decrease pain sensitivity, muscle
relaxants, defense against microorganisms, hallucinations, upset stomach, intestinal problems, etc.
Herbs are grown in dry, exposed, and well–drained soil with a lot of sun and low humidity. Manure or compost are often used to help grow different
kinds of herbs (Smith 2). Chemical fertilizers, which require a great amount of water, can be dangerous of the formation of herbs. Sometimes herbs are
also grown indoors.

Importance And Importance Of Medicinal Plants
People have been using plants to satisfy their basic needs, including health. The science and art of using medicinal plants as a cure for many ailments
have been in the society for generations. A stone age man in Iraq was tucked with marshmallow root, hyacinth and yarrow is a mute witness to this
fact .This art is not only rare but greatly respected. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that the primary health care needs of
approximately 80 per cent of the developing world's population are met by traditional medicine (Srivastava et al, 1995).
Aromatic plants are also used for therapeutic purposes. Aromatic plants are used to prepare natural oils which not just cures certain ailments but are
also used for therapeutic relief.
The importance of MAP's has been growing in the recent years due to its cultural importance. In developing countries, there is a large population living
sans basic amenities including access to health care infrastructure. Use of medicinal plants not only provide an opportunity to access affordable

Government organisations like Department of Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy, and more recently the Medicinal Plants Board solely
dedicated to MAP's just demonstrate the importance of these plants in India. These bodies exist to regulate the practices of MAP's to provide
maximum benefit to the people who are employed in this sector and also ensure sustainable growth.
But due to over harvesting and commercial exploitation of these plants, we are threatening the future of these vital resources. Unchecked
commercialisation will render certain MAP species as inaccessible and unaffordable to those who have been dependent on it for centuries. Habitat
destruction causes loss of diversity, which disturbs the ecosystem and is also the explanation for vulnerability of the

Alternative medicine has been around for centuries, although it has just started to become very popular in countries such as The United States. Many
people now are following the trend without knowing anything about alternative medicine. People should be aware of the benefits as well as the
precautions involved in taking these natural remedies.
The most common form of alternative medicine nowadays is herbal medicines. These natural remedies can be found in millions of American homes
today. Herbal medicine is probably the most widely used of the alternative medicines. Herbal medicine is a part of homeopathy, which is an alternative
system of healing that uses very small doses of substances to relieve specific symptoms (2). Traditional...show more content...
It is designed to treat the person, not just the disease.
Alternative medicine emphasizes the individual person. "Because of it holistic view of the body/mind, it is more specific for each patient's needs
than is Western medicine"(9). For example, five women may come into a clinic with the same problem, but each of the problems is accompanied by a
variety of different signs and symptoms, no two of which are exactly alike. Instead of each woman getting the same treatment, each of these five
women will receive an individually tailored treatment plan with different herbs, different acupuncture therapy, and different lifestyle suggestions (9).
Alternative medicine has no side effects. "Because treatment is so specifically tailored to each person, if the diagnosis has been correct, the treatments
prescribed by Alternative medicine should have no side effects"(9). Any mild side effects that may arise in the initial stages of herbal treatment can be
corrected by adjustments to the herbal formula. Most drugs prescribed by doctors have at least some expected and normal side effects and many have
potentially serious, irreversible ones.
Alternative medicine has a strong emphasis on prevention. In Western medicine, diagnosis can only be made and treatment given if there are
measurable material or tissue changes that show up in pictures or in blood or fluid tests(5). If a person complains of symptoms which cannot be
measured by these tests,

Disadvantages Of Medicinal Plants
In recent decades there has been increased public interest in prevention, control and treatment of diseases by medicinal plants. However, providing the
required resources from wild growing species couldn't always meet the demand. Anthropogenic interferences with natural habitats and ecosystems, and
threats posed by humans to comply the demand make many medicinal plants endangered. Cultivation of medicinal plants to provide needed plant
materials is one of the strategies to conserve the plants and avoid depletion of wild resources. Furthermore, using cultivated plants material instead of
wild collected ones has some other advantages such as precise control of growing condition, harvesting at right time, and reduction the possibility of
adulteration. However, it should be considered chemical constituents may vary between cultivars and wild grown ones by type or amount and then
their biologic effects may differ from each other. Several studies have compared cultivated and wild grown species especially from the point of view of
essential oil composition and then similarities and differences between samples have been reported (1–6). As an example Chatzopoulou et al., have

The Use Of Medicinal Plant Use Medicinal Plants
KNOWLEDGE: One of the most primitive forms of care that existed in prehistoric times is the use of medicinal plant use (Medicinal Plants, 2016).
These early uses likely resulted from a trial and error process with primitive humans. Interestingly, many modern pharmaceutical products resulted from
examining the chemicals and molecules in these early medicines. Early medicine throughout the world tended to focus primarily on spiritual means of
healing. Early Western medicine was no exception. One notable example includes the ancient Greek traditions involving the god Asclepius (Savel &
Munro, 2014). Healing temples were set up in the name of Asclepius which would attract travelers and the sick from far away in hopes that the god

During this time, surgeries became more frequent for the curing of disease and injury from frequent wars, and these surgeries were sometimes
accompanied by early forms of anesthesia and pain relief from opioids. It should be noted that even during this time of advancement of medicine,
spiritual healing continued to remain in widespread practice and belief. Healthcare continued its path forwards into the modern era. Microbiology and
Germ Theory concepts became apparent to the field of medicine in the 1800's as a result of the need to better prevent disease and stop contagious
diseases from spreading. Healthcare practitioners first began to realize that microorganisms could cause illness and infection, and despite some level of
significant pushback, these concepts were eventually proven (Larson, 1989).
The Civil War brought the need for improvements in American medicine practice to the forefront (Toledo
–Pereyra & Toledo, 2004). The lack of
appropriate care during the early period of the Civil War were staggering. The U.S. government took notice and government organizations were created
on both sides to improve the health of its soldiers. Hospital designs as well as surgical techniques were improved throughout the experience of the
Civil War. Despite these gains in knowledge, the primary care model before the 19th century was care provided at home typically by relatives for
friends in a community (Williams &

Stone Age Medicinal Evidence
The Stone Age people probably discovered the medicinal uses of plants by trial and error. For example, if someone was sick they might have tried
giving them different local plants and berries and saw which ones had which effects. The results of the "experiments" probably traveled down and
made it easier for the later generations to know which plant cured which illness. They also might have seen what type of plants certain animals ate and
tried to mimic them and saw the results of them

Healing temples were set up in the name of Asclepius which would attract travelers and the sick from far away in hopes that the god would help heal
their ailments. These temples had areas of different focus, including ritualistic bathing. These temples can be viewed as a very primitive version of
today's hospitals, and reminders can be seen on many health care facilities in the form of the staff of Asclepius, which is still viewed as the international
sign for medicine. From this tradition arose Hippocrates, the historical figure associated with modern medicine. Before his death in approximately 377
B.C., Hippocrates is credited with developing initial concepts that would later develop into modern pathophysiology, surgery, and diagnostic theories.
These ideas started to focus medicine in the direction of physical science and away from primarily spiritual domains.

It is actually considered to be one of the worst weeds in Australia. It is an invasive species so it is lives almost everywhere where it can survive. The seeds travel a very long distance because of the wind (Asclepias curassavica (bloodflower), 2017). The Blood Flower is a beautiful flower that looks like a tiny sun because of its vibrant colors. The actual bud of the flower before it blooms is a gorgeous light red or purple. The petals of the flower are bright orange and the bloomed bud is yellow (Blood Flower, 2017). Like most other plants and weeds, the Blood Flowers stem and the leaves beneath the flower are green. It can grow to be as short as one foot or as tall as three feet from the ground up to the end of the flower. It can be one foot wide or grow as wide as two feet wide from one leaf to the other (Blood Flower, 2017). The flowers on the plant are a lot shorter than the leaves and are also a lot smaller. The flowers have two different layers, the yellow one which is a lot smaller and is on top and the orange one which is bigger and is on bottom. The yellow flowers house the pistol and stamen. The Blood Flower blooms during mid–summer but does not have to bloom during mid–summer and might bloom in the spring or fall (Blood Flower, 2017). Cancer is another serious disease that herbs can provide medicinal benefits. Not only can herbs provide help in the prevention of cancer, but also in the treatment and providing comfort from the side effects of treatment. Both chaparral and dandelion provide help in the prevention of cancer. Dandelion aids in the prevention of breast cancer and chaparral protects against the formation of tumors and cancerous cells. Chaparral also protects cancer patients from the harmful effects of radiation. Both garlic and pau d'arco are good for tumors and cancer and aid in the treatment of cancer. Cancer patients suffer from horrible side effects of the treatment of cancer and fennel has been found to be good for the patient after chemotherapy and radiation to calm the side effects. When used in conjunction with conventional anticancer therapies, herbs appear to inhibit the proliferation of some cancer cells and may help counteract the undesirable toxic effects of chemotherapy and radiation. A woman's health is very important when she becomes pregnant and herbs can be an aid in all stages of pregnancy. Conception can sometimes be a difficult thing if things aren't "just right," but dong quai has been found to increase the effects of ovarian and testicular hormones. This study will show that even though 80% of the world population are already considering herbal medicines as a medicinal tool, marketing it is still considered as unethical in the latter category for health care purposes. One of the reason for this is due to some secretion of toxins by plants itself and also some have rare placebo effects. Expectancy theorists believe that expectation is one of the important variables to draw out the expected effect to the recipient, the called this phenomenon as the Expectancy theory. • 8. Medicinal Uses of Rainforest Plants Essays Medicinal Uses of Rainforest Plants It is estimated that nearly half of the world's estimated 10 million species of plants, animals, and micro–organisms will be destroyed or severely threatened over the next quarter century due to rainforest deforestation. Rainforest plants are complex chemical storehouses that contain many undiscovered compounds which are a vital part for the growth and development of the world. Therefore, we can only gain access and knowledge to these materials if we study and conserve the species that contain them. Rainforests currently provide sources for one–fourth of today's medicines, and 70 percent of the plants found have anti–cancer properties. However, they are only found in the rainforest. The...show more content... All forests have both economic and ecological value, but tropical rainforests are especially important in a global economy. Tropical forests provide many valuable products including rubber, fruits, lumber, and medicinal herbs. However, these valuable natural products that the rainforests provide have fallen victim to deforestation, and the rate of destruction is still accelerating. Unbelievably, over 200,000 acres of rainforest are destroyed every day in the world. Therefore, one can imagine the vast amount of cures and experimental knowledge lost to the negligence of society. The Amazon Rainforest is the world=s greatest natural resource and the sacred link between humans and nature. It supports millions of plant, animal, and insect species and provides the essential environmental world service of producing more than 20 percent of the world=s oxygen. Yet, still it is being destroyed just like other rainforests around the world. However, rainforests are being destroyed worldwide for the profits they yield with mostly harvesting unsustainable resources like timber, for cattle and agriculture, and for subsistence cropping by rainforest inhabitants. Nevertheless, if land owners, governments, and those living in the rainforest today were given a viable economic reason not to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Herbal Medicine Essay Herbal medicine is the extraction of herbs or plants which have a medicinal value in treating illnesses and diseases (Brody 1). A herb is known as a plant that does not have a woody stem and usually dies back at the end of each growing season. It is also known as a "natural" drug because they are derived from nature. This is unlike pharmaceutical drugs, which are synthesized from chemicals. Herbal medicine dates back a very long time. More than 4,000 years ago, the Chinese emperor Qien Nong put a book together, or a herbal, of different medicinal plants (O' Sullivan 2). It contained descriptions of more than 300 plants. Another study showed that last year more than 83 million (more than 40% adults) sought herbal medicine (and some other forms of alternative medicine) for help (Beil 1). Also, another survey showed that last year there were more visits to herbalists (629 million) than primary care physicians (386 million) (Tremmel 2). Though these results are surprising, they are true and they prove that herbal medicine and other forms of alternative medicine are becoming a new popular way of staying healthy. Herbal medicine is made of an extract taken from a plant (from the leaf, root, flower, and/or bark) used to treat an ailment. There are different types of herbal medicine such as a capsule (i.e. Saw Palmetto), tea (i.e. Back cohosh), dried herbs (i.e. Valerian), and tonic (i.e. Oats). These herbs can have many different effects on the human body. These can be good or bad. Some reactions are: helps fight viruses, decrease pain sensitivity, muscle relaxants, defense against microorganisms, hallucinations, upset stomach, intestinal problems, etc. Herbs are grown in dry, exposed, and well–drained soil with a lot of sun and low humidity. Manure or compost are often used to help grow different kinds of herbs (Smith 2). Chemical fertilizers, which require a great amount of water, can be dangerous of the formation of herbs. The science and art of using medicinal plants as a cure for many ailments have been in the society for generations. A stone age man in Iraq was tucked with marshmallow root, hyacinth and yarrow is a mute witness to this fact .This art is not only rare but greatly respected. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that the primary health care needs of approximately 80 per cent of the developing world's population are met by traditional medicine (Srivastava et al, 1995). Aromatic plants are also used for therapeutic purposes. Aromatic plants are used to prepare natural oils which not just cures certain ailments but are also used for therapeutic relief. It is designed to treat the person, not just the disease. Alternative medicine emphasizes the individual person. "Because of it holistic view of the body/mind, it is more specific for each patient's needs than is Western medicine"(9). For example, five women may come into a clinic with the same problem, but each of the problems is accompanied by a variety of different signs and symptoms, no two of which are exactly alike. Instead of each woman getting the same treatment, each of these five women will receive an individually tailored treatment plan with different herbs, different acupuncture therapy, and different lifestyle suggestions (9). Alternative medicine has no side effects. "Because treatment is so specifically tailored to each person, if the diagnosis has been correct, the treatments prescribed by Alternative medicine should have no side effects"(9). Any mild side effects that may arise in the initial stages of herbal treatment can be corrected by adjustments to the herbal formula. Most drugs prescribed by doctors have at least some expected and normal side effects and many have potentially serious, irreversible ones. Alternative medicine has a strong emphasis on prevention. In Western medicine, diagnosis can only be made and treatment given if there are measurable material or tissue changes that show up in pictures or in blood or fluid tests(5). • 12. Disadvantages Of Medicinal Plants In recent decades there has been increased public interest in prevention, control and treatment of diseases by medicinal plants. However, providing the required resources from wild growing species couldn't always meet the demand. Anthropogenic interferences with natural habitats and ecosystems, and threats posed by humans to comply the demand make many medicinal plants endangered. Cultivation of medicinal plants to provide needed plant materials is one of the strategies to conserve the plants and avoid depletion of wild resources. Furthermore, using cultivated plants material instead of wild collected ones has some other advantages such as precise control of growing condition, harvesting at right time, and reduction the possibility of adulteration. However, it should be considered chemical constituents may vary between cultivars and wild grown ones by type or amount and then their biologic effects may differ from each other. The Use Of Medicinal Plant Use Medicinal Plants KNOWLEDGE: One of the most primitive forms of care that existed in prehistoric times is the use of medicinal plant use (Medicinal Plants, 2016). These early uses likely resulted from a trial and error process with primitive humans. Interestingly, many modern pharmaceutical products resulted from examining the chemicals and molecules in these early medicines. Early medicine throughout the world tended to focus primarily on spiritual means of healing. Early Western medicine was no exception. During this time, surgeries became more frequent for the curing of disease and injury from frequent wars, and these surgeries were sometimes accompanied by early forms of anesthesia and pain relief from opioids. It should be noted that even during this time of advancement of medicine, spiritual healing continued to remain in widespread practice and belief. Healthcare continued its path forwards into the modern era. Microbiology and Germ Theory concepts became apparent to the field of medicine in the 1800's as a result of the need to better prevent disease and stop contagious diseases from spreading. Healthcare practitioners first began to realize that microorganisms could cause illness and infection, and despite some level of significant pushback, these concepts were eventually proven (Larson, 1989). The Civil War brought the need for improvements in American medicine practice to the forefront (Toledo –Pereyra & Toledo, 2004). The lack of appropriate care during the early period of the Civil War were staggering. The U.S. government took notice and government organizations were created on both sides to improve the health of its soldiers. Hospital designs as well as surgical techniques were improved throughout the experience of the Civil War. Despite these gains in knowledge, the primary care model before the 19th century was care provided at home typically by relatives for friends in a community (Williams & Get more content on HelpWriting.net

These temples had areas of different focus, including ritualistic bathing. These temples can be viewed as a very primitive version of today's hospitals, and reminders can be seen on many health care facilities in the form of the staff of Asclepius, which is still viewed as the international sign for medicine. From this tradition arose Hippocrates, the historical figure associated with modern medicine. Before his death in approximately 377 B.C., Hippocrates is credited with developing initial concepts that would later develop into modern pathophysiology, surgery, and diagnostic theories. These ideas started to focus medicine in the direction of physical science and away from primarily spiritual domains. Medicine in early medieval Get more content on HelpWriting.net
