5. NIPT: 2 day training events
Champions to be identified in each Trust to attend for the 2 days and then
cascade the training
2-3 attendees per Trust (Screening coordinators and community midwifery reps)

• NIPT is being implemented as an evaluative roll out
• Real time feedback will be needed from Trusts on cascade of training
• Updating of programme handbooks and service specifications
• Service specification 2018/19 will include NIPT
• Laboratory procurement
• Timeframes yet to be finalised: the plan is to introduce the offer of NIPT in
2018

7. Reporting FASP data: KPI FA2 – coverage
for fetal anomaly scan
Improving coverage data reporting is the key priority for FASP in 2017/2018
KPI FA2 – coverage fetal anomaly scan:
•revisions to the definitions to improve understanding of the data requirements
•improvements to the data submission tool to include all exclusions
•FA2 guidance document to be published following Purdah

8. Reporting FASP data:
Standard 1: Coverage for T21, 13 & 18
Standard 1 – coverage Down’s, Edwards’ /Patau’s
syndromes screening:
2015/16 data:
• Expected submissions: 144
• Number of submissions: 106 (74%)
• Accepted submissions: 54 (38%)
Data excluded where:
•providers were unable to account for 3 or more exclusion criteria
•data was clearly non-matched cohort data

9. Sonography:
• SSS attendance at the Trust Screening Steering Group meetings
• SSS should be attending the TSSG and providing feedback on DQASS
reports, image review processes and screening incidents in sonography
• Embedding the quarterly local image review processes with a supporting
local policy
• Further audit activities. Eg. Group review of images, using stored images to
measure and compare

10. Sonographer criteria guidance
Any practitioner undertaking first trimester screening for T21, 13 & 18
should hold:
• Certificate/Diploma (as appropriate) in Medical Ultrasound
(CMU/DMU) of the College of Radiographers (CoR) with evidence
of appropriate continuous professional development (CPD)
• Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound (PgCert) approved
and validated by a higher institute of education and accredited by
the Consortium for Sonographic Education (CASE) or equivalent
(the qualification should be relevant to obstetric ultrasound practice)
• Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG)/Royal
College of Radiologists (RCR) Diploma in Obstetric Ultrasound or
the Advanced Training Skills Module (ATSM)

11. Sonographer criteria guidance
Practitioners must also complete the following e-learning
resources:
• Screening for Down’s, Edwards’ and Patau’s syndromes
• Nuchal translucency (NT) training resource (this
resource should be completed every 12 months)

Trusts must:
• Check the sonographers last DQASS report was
green or amber flagged
• Image review should be undertaken
• Submission of data to DQASS
