The world needs clean, efficient and
sustainable alternatives to existing farming
methods which will protect soil health and
maintain food production.
The food production demands of an
increasing global population has been met
by widespread use of nitrogen fertilisers
(100 million tonnes per year).
The production of nitrogen fertiliser is an
energy intensive and expensive process.
Farming has become reliant on its input
leading to damaged soil health and high
nutrient loss into waterways.
Soil is a valuable and finite resource.

HOW WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Our products come from a system
designed to use the natural resources,
processes and nutrients that are available
to farming now.
Large quantities of animal manure is
available to the farming industry. Current
spreading of this as fertiliser is ineffective
with up to 75% of nutrients being lost to
run-off and to the air. with damaging
consequences for the environment.
Our products and system are focused on
creating a lossless transfer of these
nutrients to the soil. This creates a circular
economy for the farmer with a direct link
between their resource and their fertiliser.
We have three key sites testing and
delivering this system.

HOW IT WORKS
There are fundamental properties that make our 

products effective.
Introduction of hydrophilic Carbon
Carbon that has positive attraction with water creates more complex
compounds which hold more moisture and nutrients in the soil. This helps
to fix carbon in the ground, reduces the amount lost as greenhouse gas
and prevents the dramatic loss of nutrients through run-off that is seen
with liquid manure spreading and the application chemical fertiliser. The
nutrients are delivered in slow release for steady, healthy plant nutrition.
Increased surface area
Increasing the surface area of particles – through the action of
earthworms and the fine granulation of our Special Cyclone process –
creates a better environment for microbial activity. Enhanced microbe and
enzyme content catalyses the natural humification process, making
nutrients in the soil and compost readily available for plant growth while
retaining moisture and long term soil health.
Dried and granular
We deliver our product, with its concentrated nutritional quality and
humification capacity, as a water soluble powder. This makes it easy and
inexpensive to standardise, package, transport and apply using
conventional logistics and farming systems.

NutriholdTM
A bio-stimulating mixture, high in
nutrients, which enhances the capabilities
of soil by improving both its chemical and
physical properties.
Through the action of our unique
technology – Special Cyclone – the
physical properties of the ingredients are
maximised to obtain small homogeneous
particles, coated with carbon, with strong
binding capabilities. This is an active soil
improver for plant root health and growth.
The final product is granulated. It will be
marketed for sale in the independent
market and/or to Standard Bios biorefinery
partners (franchisees) in Norway and
internationally.

suppliers and farmers working together regionally.
INPUT
Chicken Manure has a high nutrition value.
Clay has a high cation exchange capacity bonding
negatively charged cations to its surface – this
enables detention of nutrients and water.
Silt has a rich mineral composition.
Charcoal is a carbon source.
COMBINE
The particular blend of ingredients is chosen for
optimal plant root health.
PROCESS
This mixture is treated at elevated temperatures to
disinfect and remove pathogens. This stage will
grind and homogenise the product.

A Blend of NutriholdTM
with pre-processed
wood and straw creates NutrimixTM
a
product that enables farmers to turn
animal manure into highly nutritious and
valuable composting material.
Wood and straw absorbs all fluids from the
wet, heat-disinfected animal manure. The
active carbon and bio-stimulating action of
NutriholdTM
is a catalyst for decomposing
and making available the nutrients as a
compost material.
This product acts as a key stage in our
biorefinery package, providing a way for
famers to capture more of the nutrient
value of their animal manure without the
gas and run-off pollution and loss created
with liquid manure storage and application.

INPUT
This mixture is treated at elevated

TREATMENT
The animal manure is treated at
elevated temperatures using a
Standard Bio heater, on the farm to
disinfect and remove pathogens.

is mixed with the
treated animal manure and stored 

for composting.

Dry VermicastTM
A nutrient rich natural soil improving fertiliser.
Through the action of earthworms –
consuming and casting – compost is broken
down in to very small particles making the
nutrients readily available for plant growth. It
fertilises without any salinisation issues that
are present with chemical products, creating
a healthy and sustainable environment within
the soil system.
Vermicast has, and is, widely used as a small
scale natural fertiliser, particularly in
developing countries. Its benefits as an
effective, cheap but labour intense solution
are known. Using our Special Cyclone
process we can dry and granulate vermicast
at an industrial and scalable level creating an
innovative product with global impact.
This product is a key product deliverable in
our biorefinery package.
INPUT
The compost generated by combining

and farm animal manure is used
as feed for a large population of earthworms.
The process of consuming, digestion and
excretion is vermicomposting,

PROCESS
Special Cyclone
The core of our technology is the 

Special Cyclone – a mechanical separator
with highly adjustable characteristics. Air
at low pressure is accelerated and directed
into the cyclone from several nozzles, and
the innovative nozzle design delivers high
air velocity with low pressure drop. Process
temperature is controllable. The Special
Cyclone is currently in testing at Elkem
Technology facilities.

PROCESS
Vermicomposting
The process of breaking down organic
matter in to compost through the action of
worms. Their castings have been shown to
contain reduced levels of contaminants
and a higher saturation of nutrients than
organic materials before vermicomposting.
Worms and vermicast are natural pest
controllers leading to lower need for
insecticides and chemicals.
Our plant in Bø, Norway is currently
producing Dry VermicastTM
for testing in
the local market.
DIGESTER
The earthworm is nature’s
engineer, they provide natural
aeration and drainage as they
burrow through soil eating all
organic matter as they go. The
action of this digestion breaks
down organic materials into readily
available nutrient for plant growth.
REPRODUCER
Earthworms can multiply their
population with remarkable
speed, doubling their population
every 30 days on average.

  • 4. HOW WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE Our products come from a system designed to use the natural resources, processes and nutrients that are available to farming now. Large quantities of animal manure is available to the farming industry. Current spreading of this as fertiliser is ineffective with up to 75% of nutrients being lost to run-off and to the air. with damaging consequences for the environment. Our products and system are focused on creating a lossless transfer of these nutrients to the soil. This creates a circular economy for the farmer with a direct link between their resource and their fertiliser. We have three key sites testing and delivering this system.   • 5. HOW IT WORKS There are fundamental properties that make our 
 products effective. Introduction of hydrophilic Carbon Carbon that has positive attraction with water creates more complex compounds which hold more moisture and nutrients in the soil. This helps to fix carbon in the ground, reduces the amount lost as greenhouse gas and prevents the dramatic loss of nutrients through run-off that is seen with liquid manure spreading and the application chemical fertiliser. The nutrients are delivered in slow release for steady, healthy plant nutrition. Increased surface area Increasing the surface area of particles – through the action of earthworms and the fine granulation of our Special Cyclone process – creates a better environment for microbial activity. Enhanced microbe and enzyme content catalyses the natural humification process, making nutrients in the soil and compost readily available for plant growth while retaining moisture and long term soil health. Dried and granular We deliver our product, with its concentrated nutritional quality and humification capacity, as a water soluble powder.   • 6. PRODUCT NutriholdTM A bio-stimulating mixture, high in nutrients, which enhances the capabilities of soil by improving both its chemical and physical properties. Through the action of our unique technology – Special Cyclone – the physical properties of the ingredients are maximised to obtain small homogeneous particles, coated with carbon, with strong binding capabilities. This is an active soil improver for plant root health and growth. The final product is granulated. It will be marketed for sale in the independent market and/or to Standard Bios biorefinery partners (franchisees) in Norway and internationally. SOURCE Standard Bio has partner relationships with local suppliers and farmers working together regionally. INPUT Chicken Manure has a high nutrition value. Clay has a high cation exchange capacity bonding negatively charged cations to its surface – this enables detention of nutrients and water. Silt has a rich mineral composition. Charcoal is a carbon source. COMBINE The particular blend of ingredients is chosen for optimal plant root health. PROCESS This mixture is treated at elevated temperatures to disinfect and remove pathogens. This stage will grind and homogenise the product. PRODUCT NutrimixTM A Blend of NutriholdTM with pre-processed wood and straw creates NutrimixTM a product that enables farmers to turn animal manure into highly nutritious and valuable composting material. Wood and straw absorbs all fluids from the wet, heat-disinfected animal manure. The active carbon and bio-stimulating action of NutriholdTM is a catalyst for decomposing and making available the nutrients as a compost material. This product acts as a key stage in our biorefinery package, providing a way for famers to capture more of the nutrient value of their animal manure without the gas and run-off pollution and loss created with liquid manure storage and application.   • 8. PRODUCT Dry VermicastTM A nutrient rich natural soil improving fertiliser. Through the action of earthworms – consuming and casting – compost is broken down in to very small particles making the nutrients readily available for plant growth. It fertilises without any salinisation issues that are present with chemical products, creating a healthy and sustainable environment within the soil system. Vermicast has, and is, widely used as a small scale natural fertiliser, particularly in developing countries. Its benefits as an effective, cheap but labour intense solution are known. Using our Special Cyclone process we can dry and granulate vermicast at an industrial and scalable level creating an innovative product with global impact. This product is a key product deliverable in our biorefinery package. INPUT The compost generated by combining NutrimixTM and farm animal manure is used as feed for a large population of earthworms. The process of consuming, digestion and excretion is vermicomposting, PROCESS This vermicompost is sifted, heated and dried to leave only Dry VermicastTM , a nutrient rich fertiliser and soil improver.   • 9. PROCESS Special Cyclone The core of our technology is the 
 Special Cyclone – a mechanical separator with highly adjustable characteristics. Air at low pressure is accelerated and directed into the cyclone from several nozzles, and the innovative nozzle design delivers high air velocity with low pressure drop. Process temperature is controllable. The Special Cyclone is currently in testing at Elkem Technology facilities.   • 10. PROCESS Vermicomposting The process of breaking down organic matter in to compost through the action of worms. Their castings have been shown to contain reduced levels of contaminants and a higher saturation of nutrients than organic materials before vermicomposting. Worms and vermicast are natural pest controllers leading to lower need for insecticides and chemicals. Our plant in Bø, Norway is currently producing Dry VermicastTM for testing in the local market. DIGESTER The earthworm is nature’s engineer, they provide natural aeration and drainage as they burrow through soil eating all organic matter as they go. The action of this digestion breaks down organic materials into readily available nutrient for plant growth. REPRODUCER Earthworms can multiply their population with remarkable speed, doubling their population every 30 days on average.
