9. MECHANICS OF WRITING: PARAGRAPH
A paragraph is kind of like a group of
friends. Paragraphs are groups of
sentences that share a common idea.
They are all written about a certain
topic, just like friends usually share a
common interest.
10. PARAGRAPHS
Paragraphs can begin with
an indentation (about five spaces),
or by missing a line out, and then
starting again. This makes it easier
to see when one paragraph ends
and another begins.
11. PARAGRAPH
Paragraphs often include
examples or evidence to support a
topic, idea, or opinion. It's kind of like
when you want your parents to buy
you a certain toy, so you list several
reasons why they should buy it.
12. WHY PARAGRAPHS ARE IMPORTANT
Paragraphs are so important in writing because good paragraphing helps the
reader understand and enjoy your writing. Good ideas are not enough to write
a good essay; they need to be organised so that they make sense.
Keeping one idea to one paragraph is the most basic rule of good paragraphing.
13. WRITING A PARAGRAPH
Write a topic sentence. The first sentence of your
paragraph needs to be the topic sentence. A topic sentence
is an introductory line that addresses what the main idea of
the paragraph is going to be.
It should contain the most important and relevant point
you wish to make regarding your topic.
14. REMEMBER THIS!
Always remember this; New idea, new paragraph!
Keeping one idea to one paragraph is the most basic
rule of good paragraphing. If you find yourself
moving into a new idea, stop and get ready to write
a new paragraph.
15. SUMMARY QUESTIONS
