To
  whom
  it
  may
  concern,

   My
  name
  is
  Andrea
  Botelho
  and
  I
  am
  a
  Registered
  Nurse
  on
  the
  Thoracic
  Surgery/Medical

Surgical
  unit
  at
  Massachusetts
  General
  Hospital
  in
  Boston.
  I’ve
  had
  the
  pleasure
  of
  serving
  as
  a

preceptor
  for
  Olivia
  Ferrauilo
  during
  her
  senior
  practicum
  over
  the
  last
  few
  months.
  In
  our
  time

together,
  I’ve
  gotten
  to
  know
  Olivia
  and
  watched
  her
  grow
  to
  become
  more
  comfortable
  and
  confident

in
  her
  practice
  while
  remaining
  self-‐aware
  and
  asking
  questions.
  I
  admire
  Olivia’s
  fervor
  and
  inquisitive

nature,
  and
  believe
  those
  to
  be
  some
  of
  the
  qualities
  that
  make
  a
  great
  nurse.
  It
  is
  with
  great
  pride
  that
  I

write
  this
  letter
  recommending
  Olivia
  for
  a
  position
  as
  Registered
  Nurse.

   Olivia
  has
  had
  exposure
  to
  a
  high
  acuity
  patient
  population
  during
  her
  practicum;
  working
  with

patients
  who
  have
  serious
  medical
  conditions,
  who
  have
  had
  major
  surgeries,
  often
  times
  with
  tenuous

recoveries.
  Olivia
  has
  maintained
  her
  composure
  while
  assisting
  in
  the
  management
  of
  arrhythmias,

trached
  and
  non-‐trached
  patients
  with
  acute
  respiratory
  needs,
  mobilizing
  patients
  with
  multiple
  tubes

and
  lines,
  and
  soothing
  patients
  who
  require
  emotional
  support
  and
  encouragement.
  Working
  one
  on

one
  with
  Olivia,
  I
  have
  had
  the
  opportunity
  to
  know
  her
  as
  a
  student,
  a
  person,
  and
  have
  been
  lucky
  to

foresee
  what
  she
  will
  be
  like
  working
  as
  a
  new
  nurse
  in
  her
  own
  practice.
  Olivia
  has
  consistently

demonstrated
  professionalism,
  team
  work,
  the
  willingness
  and
  ability
  to
  work
  as
  part
  of
  an

interdisciplinary
  team
  (i.e.,
  Physical
  Therapy,
  Speech
  Language
  Pathology),
  and
  competency
  in
  providing

safe,
  therapeutic,
  and
  patient-‐and-‐family-‐centered
  care.

   If
  I
  had
  to
  choose
  Olivia’s
  best
  quality,
  I
  would
  say
  that
  it
  is
  her
  ability
  to
  connect
  with
  patients.

What
  stood
  out
  to
  me
  the
  most
  is
  her
  genuineness,
  along
  with
  an
  ability
  to
  truly
  empathize
  and
  be

compassionate
  toward
  patients.
  Olivia
  took
  the
  time
  to
  get
  to
  know
  her
  patients.
  I
  was
  impressed
  at

how
  patients
  felt
  comfortable
  with
  Olivia
  and
  entrusted
  her
  with
  their
  personal
  thoughts
  and
  feelings.
  It

takes
  a
  special
  person
  to
  get
  someone
  to
  open
  up,
  and
  I
  ‘m
  happy
  that
  Olivia
  possesses
  this
  quality;
  it

will
  ensure
  that
  patients
  feel
  safe
  and
  comfortable
  with
  her.

   For
  all
  of
  the
  above
  listed
  reasons
  and
  more,
  it
  is
  with
  great
  pride
  and
  enthusiasm
  that
  I

recommend
  Olivia
  for
  a
  position
  as
  a
  new
  graduate
  Registered
  Nurse.
