When Travelling To
Yokohama
Travelling is an amazing way to learn about new cultures and traditions. There are
countless places one can explore, but you are missing out a lot if you haven't visited
Japan yet. The country has something special about itself that amazes and excites
travellers. Due to its rich traditions, food, and extraordinary places, you will find
yourself in a whole new world.
Those who have been to Japan would know that it is a place that promises
incredible adventure to everyone who visits it. With grand castles, temples, cuisines,
and landscapes, let's discuss how Yokohama can give you the best travelling
experience of your life:
4. Yokohama
Yokohama is one of the most stunning port cities, merely a few
minutes from Tokyo. It used to be a village, but gradually, Japan
increased it’s communication with the world. It became one of
the first ports to allow foreign trade, as history speaks. With the
positive initiation, the period of isolation broke, and you can find
foreigners arriving and settling in the Kannai area. The place also
became famous for inviting Western Fashion. Today the
population is almost around 4 million, and it is one of the busiest
ports.
5. Sankeien Garden
When you are in Yokohama, you should surely try vising the Sankeien Garden. It
became open to the public in the year 1906. It is a traditional Japanese garden that
is indeed a beautiful sight for the eyes. Moreover, you can find spectacular historical
structures. There is a guest house built in 1603 for Tokugawa leyasu, and a tea room
or Shunsoro built for Oda Urakusai, brother of Oda Nobunaga.
6. Yamate
As Yokohama opened, foreigners started to settle in the area of
Yamate. However, there are not too many houses that you can
find today. But there are some of the oldest ones in Harbor View
Park. With a fantastic harbour view, you can also learn about the
houses’ history and take great snaps of the unforgettable
experience.
7. Shop Around
When in Yamate, close to it, you will find Motomachi, a shopping street and a great
place to walk around, do window shopping and pay a visit to the cafes around. A
place where you can easily capture the way foreigners used to live in the olden
times.
8. Yokohama
Chinatown
When visiting Yokohama, you cannot forget to visit the
Chinatown that started a settlement in the 1850s. It has more
than 500 restaurants and four gates that enable you to enter
Chinatown. At its center, there is a temple called Kanteibyo,
which was built in 1873. The place is rich with countless
restaurants offering delectable dishes. Interestingly, the site
consists of market stalls that you can try for an enriching food
adventure.
9. Yokohama Landmark Tower
&
Minato Mirai
Minato Mirai is a fantastic location and a place that receives numerous
visitors all year round. The skyline is breathtaking and viewable from various
points, such as Yokohama Landmark Tower or Kishamichi Promenade.
