ChangeTheWorld ‐ Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge
Ontario Volunteer Centre Network
Overall Responsibilities:
Responsible for coordinating communications between Ontario Volunteer Centres (VCs) and the Ontario
Ministry of Citizenship & Immigration (MCI) for the ChangeTheWorld ‐ Ontario Youth Volunteer
Challenge, a partnership project between MCI and the Ontario Volunteer Centre Network (OVCN).
Work on outreach strategy to ensure all participating VCs are successful and meet their targets.
Specific Responsibilities:
Outreach and Proactive Approach
o Work with all participating VCs to ensure they have success and that they meet their targets.
o Develop template for outreach strategy based on VCs respective target audience.
o Provide necessary outreach tools (templates of letters – update and create new ones) and
provide education to help:
Engage youth (via the school boards, trustees, schools, youth clubs, community centres,
etc.);
Reach out to the participating community service organizations who can help create
events;
To obtain community celebrity endorsements;
The media – templates of media releases;
MPP’s and local politicians.
o Provide one‐on‐one mentoring role to VCs who did not reach their goals last year and to first
year participants.
o Update list of campaign ideas.
o Design webinar workshops on topic related issues.
o Assist in updating and maintaining content in content management system (CMS)
ChangeTheWorld website (Drupal platform).
o Share past campaign learning’s and approaches with the VCs (e.g. mentoring, templates,
consentrelease forms, etc.).
o Assist VCs with the coordination and implementation of potential existing large provincial events
(i.e. Daffodil Month ‐ Cancer Society, MeToWe, etc.).
o Explore on‐line applications and tools for volunteer placement/referrals, and for tracking
volunteer hours.
o Create newsletter to communicate tips, ideas, media updates, etc. to VCs.
o Assist VCs with electronic outreach (via social media and website) and support media
relations/planning for VCs requiring assistance.
o Distribute government messaging and promotional materials to local VCs.
o Develop a provincial media relations strategy and work with local VCs on the successful
implementation.

Administration – Coordination with MCI
o Provide overall project administration in the development, implementation and evaluation of
the 2013 ChangeTheWorld ‐ Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge.
o Provide template for work plan and schedules to VCs.
o Identify and address issuesneeds as they arise, and liaise with MCI program staff for timely
resolution.
Coordination with VCs
o Facilitate all conference calls with VCs, the OVCN and MCI.
o Primary point contact for all VCs participating in the 2013 campaign.
o Provide ongoing liaison with the local VCs, MCI program staff and, where required, MCI’s
Communications Branch.
o Compile campaign updates from each centre.
o Manage CTW documents and key information via “The OVCN Space” (an on‐line community
forum).
o Ontario Youth Ambassadors for Change (OYAC) committee involvement by attending their
monthly meetings or to be available via conference call to offer advice/follow‐up.
o Develop and implement a communications mechanism between VCs to include emails,
conference calls, OVCN website (liaise with local VCs and disseminate related information, etc.).
Reporting and Roll‐up
o Provide survey tools/question templates to VCs to evaluate success and generate smoother
reporting.
o Roll‐up individual VCs evaluation and Summary Report ‐ disseminate template to VCs for
completion.
o Post NVW Evaluation ‐ prepare summary of findings and forward final report to MCI and the
OVCN Steering Committee.
Desired Qualifications:
• Post‐secondary education: Communications, Project Management, Event Management, or related
training.
• Demonstrated experience of working with youth groups and/or initiatives, more specifically in the
not‐for‐profit sector.
• Experience of working with volunteers, individuals or in a group setting, is required.
• Superior organizational skills and attention to detail, effective communication and interpersonal skills
required.
• Experience developing and implementing media relations strategies.
• Highly proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and a solid background in
electronic communication tools (creating e‐newsletters).
• Demonstrated experience in data analysis and the use of on‐line survey systems (i.e. Survey Monkey,
etc.).
• Experience with using web design tools (Content Management Systems) and social media applications
(i.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc.).

Desired Qualifications (continued):
• Experience with graphic design programs (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite – PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign,
etc.) would be considered an asset.
• French language (written and spoken) would be considered an asset, but is not essential for this role.
• 5+ years’ experience in the field of communications or project management.
• Must be a team player and have a strong personal commitment to volunteerism.
• Knowledge or working experience within a not‐for‐profit organization, as well as experience with a
provincial organization or association, is considered an asset.
Contract Period:
January 7, 2013 to July 26, 2013 (29 weeks)
Salary:
$23.00 / hour
Reporting:
Reports to the Marketing & Communications Manager at Volunteer MBC/Administrator for the
ChangeTheWorld Provincial Grant, on behalf of the Ontario Volunteer Centre Network.
