QM - Manners on Friday.pdf
1. V I R T U E S O F F R I D AY
Friday is a significant day in Islam for many reasons.
2. SIGNIFICANCE OF JUMUAH
Here are some of the occurrences that have occurred or occur on
Jumu'ah, according to Tafsir Ibn Kathir's Tafsir of Suratul-Jumuah:
1. Allah created Adam, the first man, on a Jumu'ah
2. Adam was placed in Jannah (and taken out of it) on a Jumu'ah
3. The Day of Judgment will occur on a Jumu'ah
4. There is an hour on Jumu'ah where "no faithful servant asks Allah for
something good, but Allah will give him what he asked for.“
5. Muslims gather on Jumu'ah for the Jumu'ah prayer
3. ALLAH SWT KNOWS BEST WHY HE CHOSE
FRIDAY AS THE BEST OF THE 7 DAYS.
PREVIOUS NATIONS WERE ALSO INFORMED
ABOUT FRIDAY, BUT THEY CHOSE
DIFFERENT DAYS.
5. O you who believe (Muslims)!
When the call is proclaimed for the Salât (prayer) on Friday (Jumu'ah prayer),
come to the remembrance of Allah [Jumu'ah religious talk (Khutbah) and Salât
(prayer)] and leave off business (and every other thing).
That is better for you if you did but know!
Then when the (Jumu'ah) Salât (prayer) is ended,
you may disperse through the land, and seek the bounty of Allah (by working),
and remember Allah much, that you may be successful.
(62:9-10)
6. 1. Muslims perform the congregational
Jumu'ah prayer, which is accompanied
with the Friday Khutbah (sermon).
2. A Muslim should prepare appropriately
for Jumu'ah prayer.
7. 3. Bathing is favorable, but wudhu can also be done.
4. One must wear clean clothes, and oil & perfume can be applied
for good odors. Nails should be trimmed.
5. Muslims should also brush their teeth or use miswaak before
going to the mosque, and refrain from eating anything with
displeasing smells. For example: garlic.
8. • Once at the mosque, a Muslim should perform sunnah prayers. They should sit silently and wait
for the khutbah to begin. During this time, they can read Surah Kahaf, which is specially read
on Friday.
• It is a duty of a Muslim to remember the Prophet SAW on Fridays, and to send blessings upon
him.
9. 9. A Muslim is not supposed to annoy or
discomfort other worshippers at the mosque. Talk
politely and do not step on one another.
10. No one has the right to ‘own’ a spot. Do not ask
others to move from a specific place. Instead, he
should ask people to make room for him.
11. One must not sit in any position which might
make him sleepy or drowsy, or any positions which
could break his whudhu.
12. One should change their position if he
starts dozing.
10. 13. You should not sit in a position which uncovers
your awra.
14. The Prophet Muhammad SAW forbade
worshippers to sit in a circle before the prayer, as it
takes up excess space and hinders straight rows.
15. One should listen quietly and attentively to the
khutbah and should present a good attitude.
16. When the prayer is over, worshippers should
not rush to or crowd the exit.
17. On Friday, Muslims should abandon all work
during prayer times.
18. Fasting on Friday alone is undesirable.
19. You do not need to abandon travelling on
Friday.
12. As soon as the imam ascends the member he salutes the worshipers, just before he
sits or immediately after.
The imam should face the worshipers while he is delivering the khutbah. And
Muqtadees should face the Imam as he speaks.
The topics discussed at the khutbah should be related to current, relevant issues.
The Friday khutbah is of two parts in each of which the imam must speak while
standing: in the interval between he must sit for a short while on the minbar.
The voice of the imam should be clear, but he should not shout in order to be
heard. His language should be simple and understandable.
The imam should not interrupt his khutbah in order to greet someone or to make
an announcement of any kind.
13. The imam should not make his khutbah or his prayer lengthy. Each must be of moderate
length. In fact, the shortness of the khutbah is a sign of the imams understanding of Islam.
The second part of the khutbah should not be devoid of information.
The khutbah is a message and not a performance. The imam should avoid being conspicuously eloquent or
poetic; he should also avoid speaking in a voice or in a manner which tends toward musicality.
the imams raising his hands in the khutbah while saying dua for the Muslims is
prohibited. it is enough that he points with his fore-finger.
The imam should prepare his khutbah beforehand; his dua should preferably be
spontaneous and not memorized.
The imam should not begin the actual prayer until he has convinced himself that the
rows of worshippers are straight.
