WOMEN IN POWER
BY: Nomzamo Buyani
Women in power- an
innovative event that
was meant for women
by women, which aims
to celebrate, equip and
inspire young women
during women’s
month(August). The
event was not focus-
sing only on women;
young men were also
invited to attend as the
speakers were differ-
ent sexes and our very
own former student.
The event was orga-
nized by Damelin SRC
(student representa-
tive council) members,
which is one of the
initiatives that aim to
bring students to-
gether. With this kind
of event information
and advice passed on
how to make it in the
real world. The event
was held in one of the
classroom room 223 in
the campus, the room
was packed to the raf-
ters as students were
enthusiastic about this
opportunity.
The guest speakers
for the event were
Vivian Roberts, Vusi
Dominic Tshabalala
they work together in
employment agency
and they are also moti-
vational speakers and
our former Journalism
and Media student-
Petunia Ramothwala
who is now a junior
communication officer
in a company in Pre-
toria.
Each speaker concen-
trated on certain topics
Vivian spoke about
personal development,
two types of interviews
(job interview vs in-
formational interview)
and choices. One of
the quotes from her
was that “if you can
dream it, you can
achieve it” and stay
away from doubts and
fears in your life.
Vusi Dominic Tsha-
balala taught us
about the ‘perception
between man and
women in the working
world, knowing your-
selves, and claiming
your place in the work-
ing environment “don’t
down grade and don’t
settle for less.
Women need to claim
their place” said Vusi.
“Knowing yourselves,
and claiming your
place in the working
environment “don’t
down grade and don’t
settle for less.
Women need to claim
their place” said Vusi.
Petunia Ramothwala
touched on juggling
studying, working and
motherhood one of the
quotes that stood out
was “don’t let anyone
dictate your life, be
honest with yourself
and use ideas to pro-
pel yourself forward”.

Fridays will never be
the same as the start
of an official ‘trend
setting’ initiative will
take over Braamfon-
tein campus by storm.
Dressing up or down
is plays a role in our
lives, it is important
how you represent
yourself and can
make an impression
or not as the saying
goes “first impression
counts”. Now it is time
to make an impression
and a statement with
your outfit. Feel free to
be creative and play
around with ideas as
long you look fabulous
and feel good about
yourself.
Fashion Fridays
started on the 2nd
of
August 2013, and will
continue till the end
of the semester. The
question is are you
a stylista or a natural
born fashionista? This
is a chance to show-
case what you got and
what you love.
There will be ‘different
Themes or a certain
Colour’ will be given to
you to make your outfit
extra special every
Friday; SRC(student
representative council)
and photographer will
be walking around the
campus spotting for
the best dressed male
and female in the
Fashion Fridays for all fashionistas or
stylistas!
