2. Meena Bindra is a live example of how 'Age does not define anything'. She started her business
when she was 39 years old. This tells us that it is never too late to follow your dream. Meena
Bindra is the founder of Biba, India's largest readymade ethnic wear brand. It went from Rs.
8000 loan to Rs. 600 crore venture. Meena started in small bits by getting fabric and a tailor,
selling some pieces, earning a profit, and then doing it all over again. Her story tells us that
having confidence in yourself and your ideas can bring a big change in your life.
3. Milestones in the journey of BIBA
• BIBA was launched as a brand in 1988 and from wholesaling the brand to traditional
retailers, it launched its first exclusive store at Inorbit Mall in Mumbai in the early
nineties. Today, BIBA has a presence across 76 Indian cities with 192 exclusive brand
outlets and over 250 multi-brand outlets.
• BIBA was one of the first few brands to use the shop-in-shop model with Shoppers Stop,
Lifestyle and Pantaloons.
• The annual turnover of Biba Apparels is estimated at Rs.600 crores today.
• BIBA won the Best Women’s Ethnic Wear Brand of the Year at the CMAI Apex Awards
last month. In 2012 it also won the Images Award for Most Admired Women's Indian wear
Brand of the Year.
