The Free Software Foundation
was founded in 1985
The Free Software Foundation (FSF)
is a nonprofit with a worldwidemission
to promote computer user freedom.
We defend the rights of all software users.
“Free software” means software that respects users‘
freedom and community. Roughly, it means that
the users have the freedom to run, copy,
distribute, study, change and improve the
software.
Freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change
and improve the software.
Freedom to run the program, for any purpose
Freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it
to your needs .
Freedom to redistribute copies so you can help others
Freedom to improve the program, and release your
improvements to the public.
Free Software
http://gcc.gnu.org/
Example of Free Software
Open-source software (OSS) is a type of computer
software in which source code is released under a
license in which the copyright holder grants users the
rights to use, study, change, and distribute the
software to anyone and for any purpose.
Open-source software may be developed in a
collaborative public manner.
Free Software Licenses
GPL was the first copyleft license
for general use.
The GNU General Public License (GNU
GPL or simply GPL) is a series of widely-
used free software licenses that guarantee
end users the freedom to run, study, share,
and modify the software
GPL include the Linux kernel and
the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC)
1.Lack Of Support And Documentation. Unfortunately
most free or open source software is provided without
support.
2.Developer Loses Interest.
3.Advertising Banners.
4.Not All Free Software is Safe.
5.User Interface Is Ugly.
