Following my 6-month training post in Radiation Oncology under the supervision of Dr V.
Giannouzakos and my successful qualification as a specialty doctor in Radiation Oncology, I
was offered a post as a Clinical Associate in the Radiotherapy Department. My duties consisted
of attending all work done in the Radiation Oncology department (outpatient clinic, therapy
planning, 2D & 3D simulation, conformal RT, HDR cervix brachytherapy, IGRT, IMRT
(RapidArc), patient follow-up, etc). Our department is the busiest Radiotherapy department of
Northern Greece and performs an average of 140-150 treatments daily with an equally busy
outpatient clinic that admits a daily average of 10 new patients. As a Clinical Associate doctor I
am responsible to Dr V. Giannouzakos, Clinical Director-Consultant Radiotherapist and
Oncologist.
“Thalatta Kalamitsi Village Camp”, Kalamitsi, Halkidiki, Greece
Worked at the “Thalatta Kalamitsi Village Camp” for 4 consecutive summer seasons as a doctor.
My duties consisted of providing medical care for all the employees, residents and visitors of the
camp; the total number of which averaged around 2.000/day during the whole season. The
majority of the cases treated were orthopaedic injuries, swimming accidents, general pathology
and trauma patients and all kinds of infections, skin allergies, etc. The average number of
patients treated at the medical centre was around 10 daily.

Voluntary work as Divemaster at the diving centre of “Thalatta Kalamitsi Village Camp”. My
duties consisted of giving theory lectures to amateur divers of all ages, teaching emergency first
response (EFR) procedures and also guide, escort and supervise PADI Open Water course

Both times that I was assigned as the CMO of the events by FIM (Fédération Internationale de
Motocyclisme), my duties consisted of planning, organizing and supervising the whole medical
plan and facilities for the FIM Enduro World Championship rounds held in Kalampaka. As the
CMO of the races, I was in charge of a team consisted of 6 medical doctors, 6 ambulances with
their respective crews and 3 teams of A&E paramedics.

Specialization in Radiotherapy & Oncology. My duties consisted of attending all work done in
the Radiation Oncology department (outpatient and inpatient clinics, therapy planning &
3. simulation, brachytherapy, on-call duties, patient follow-up, etc). As a trainee doctor I was in
charge of the inpatient’s clinic for 2 years and also trained in prostate and cervix brachytherapy
and Total Body Irradiation (TBI). During my specialization I had on-call duties once per week,
covering all tree Radiotherapy & Oncology clinics of “St. Savvas” hospital. I was also trained for
a 6-month period at the Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology Department (CT, MRI, etc). As a
trainee doctor I was responsible to Dr I. Katsilieris and Dr P. Liosi, Consultants of Radiotherapy
& Oncology.
Military Service, Hellenic Air Force, Greece
I served a total of 12 months in the Hellenic Air Force as a sergeant doctor. After a 6-week
period of training in the 251 General Air Force Hospital and the Flight Medicine Centre, I was
positioned for 4 months as a combat wing doctor in the 117th
Combat Wing stationed at
Andravida airbase. I attended a total of 1200 people, including the two combat squadrons (338th
& 339th
) as well as the personnel of the airbase and their families.
Another 6 months were served in the Air Force Academy holding the doctor’s position. Through
this service, health coverage was primarily provided to the 800 students of the academy, and
also the military and civilian personnel of the 123rd
Technical Training Wing (a total of 3.000
men and women).
In both the above service positions, I also participated in many military exercises, vaccinations,
water and food supply controls, as well as patient transfers to larger health units. I also
attended several training sessions regarding nuclear and biochemical war, emergency medicine
in the field, CPR and ATLS courses.
Mayday University Hospital (Clinical Attachment in Obstetrics & Gynaecology), London,
U.K.
My duties consisted of attending all work done in the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department
(labour wards, Caesarean section ward, outpatient and inpatient clinics, on-call duties etc). As
an observer attachment I was responsible to Mr G. Ward, Consultant Obstetrician &
Gynaecologist.
Amaliada General Hospital (SHO in A&E, Orthopaedics, Pathology and General Surgery),
Amaliada, Greece
My duties consisted of serving the town of Efyra (3.500 people) and six more nearby villages
which I visited weekly, in general practice sessions. I also had A&E duties at the Amaliada
General Hospital. First 3 months spent at the Amaliada General Hospital in a General Surgery
and A&E rotation. On call duties were once every four days.
Voluntary work with Dr E. Koudigelis (Orthopaedic & Trauma surgeon)
Dealing mostly with sport & dance injuries as well as orthopaedic patients (chronic and acute)
in cooperation with Dr E. Koudigelis as his assistant.
Medical expedition, Sifnos Island, Greece
My participation was voluntary and as part of the team we focused on providing free medical
examinations of the local population. Sifnos is a fairly remote Greek island with insufficient
medical facilities. The team consisted of doctors from various specialties and other medical
related personnel (such as optometrists, X-ray assistants, etc).
