Education Department – Teaching Artist
Song writer and drama instructor for the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Museum, performing arts afterschool and
summer program. Responsible for developing and teaching original songs, accompanied by sign language
instruction, based upon West African folk tales, from the Lorenzo Dow Turner Exhibit (The First Days of Man,
The Man Who Sought Riches, Why the Leopard Has Spots, How One Bride Became Four). Managed and prepared
classroom students, grades 4-6, for public performances. Students were invited to perform for the school
community, the actual museum, as well as delegate officials from Kenya! Lessons were typically accompanied by
music, kinesthetic learning and sign language instruction. All original songs produced for this project was
purchased by the Smithsonian Institute and on file at the Anacostia Community Museum library.
WASHINGTON NATIONAL OPERA, Washington, DC 10/10 – 06/11

Office administrative duties. Conduct research for the education department and developed arts integrated lesson
plans aligned with the core curriculum standards of DC Public Schools. Managed and taught drama classes at one
of the company's partnership schools, Patterson Elementary school, grades 4-6, in partnership with the Smithsonian
Anacostia Community Museum’s afterschool program. Served as a think tank member to help develop and design
