The unfair treatment towards women and the very visible favoritism towards men urged the women on fighting for their own rights, hence our celebration of women's month in todays generation.
Women’s month is a month-long celebration to
acknowledge all women in all sorts of shape, size,
and color. This month also calls out on gender
equality.
Women's History Month started as a small-town event in
Santa Rosa, California. In 1978, the Education Task Force
of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of
Women planned and carried out a "Women's History
Week" celebration. The week of March 8 was chosen by
the organizers to coincide with International Women's
Day. The following year, other communities began their
own Women's History Week celebrations, and the
movement spread across the country.
Following a petition from the National Women's History
Project, Congress passed Pub. L. Between 1988 and 1994,
Congress passed resolutions requesting and authorizing
the President to proclaim March as "Women's History
Month." Since 1995, presidents have issued a series of
proclamations designating March as "Women's History
Month," celebrating the contributions women have made to
the United States and recognizing specific achievements
women have made throughout American history in a variety
of fields.
