In the past we’ve mentioned wp-db-backup which is a powerful MySQL backup plugin
for WordPress. However there is another plugin that also will backup your website files
as well as a copy of your MySQL database.
‘BackupWordPress’ (all one word) is a great WordPress plugin that can be set to
schedule a backup to your server, email you a copy of the backup or you can perform a
manual backup ad-hoc. The benefits of this plugin go beyond simply backup and also
could be used for website migration.
This plugin is extremely fast. In a test it backed up a 17MB website in under a minute.
Now consider doing this process manually. You would need to export your MySQL
database via a package such as phpMyAdmin, and then probably manually download
all your files via ftp. The end result would probably be 10 – 20 minutes spent manually
backing everything up. So BackupWordPress can used to not only automate backups,
but enable you to speed up the time it takes to manually backup your website.

Losing a connection with a database server can be frustrating. You should contact your
web hosting provide and notify them of the problem. However chances are they are
aware of the issue and hopefully are dealing with the problem. Always best to raise a
support ticket though or request support.

2. Even when the MySQL server issue is fixed, you should make sure you check whether
your MySQL database tables are okay. It might be that you need to repair some.

website issues and also regularly making MySQL backups such as covered above.
