Prism Johnson Limited operates the Baghai Limestone Mine located in Madhya Pradesh, India to supply limestone to their integrated cement plant. The 512.317 hectare mine contains two active pits, B-4 and B-9, which are mined using mechanized methods including drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling. Limestone is excavated in benches up to 15 meters thick with overburden rock and soil stacked separately. Mining machinery includes excavators, trucks, dozers, and rock cutters. Dewatering pumps are used to keep the pits dry during mining.
2. Introduction-
Prism Johnson Limited is a prominent cement manufacturer with cement production capacity of 5.6 MTPA in
central India. It has integrated cement plant in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. to cater the demand of basic raw
material (i.e. Limestone) of integrated cement plant Prism Johnson Limited has various mining lease in and around
of cement plant. Limestone mine lease details are as-
1. Hinauti & Sijhata Limestone Mine ( Leased Area- 772.067 Ha)
2. Hinauti & Sijhata Limestone Mine ( Leased Area- 99.416 Ha)
3. Mendhi Limestone Mine ( Leased Area- 117.594 Ha)
4. Baghai Limestone Mine ( leased Area- 512.317 Ha)
Geologically, this area forms part of the Rewa Plateau belonging to the Upper Vindhyan Super
group of rock formations in Indian stratigraphy. The Vindhyan formations are broadly classified into lower calcareous
and an upper arenaceous facies. The upper arenaceous rocks however, have a calcareous horizon - the Bhander
Limestone varying in thickness from about 5 to 15 mtrs. The Limestone deposit of the area belongs to the Bhander
series. The general trend of Bhander Limestone is East – North-East to West – South-West having low Southerly
dipping of less than 50 .
3. Baghai Limestone Mine –
Baghai Limestone mine having leased area of 512.317 ha in the
village of Baghai, tehsil- Rampur- baghelan, district- Satna
(M.P.). Leased area falls in toposheet no. 63H/2. Mine Lease
area is spread in between latitude 24°33’14’’ to 24° 34’44’’ in
north direction and longitude 81°01’47’’ to 81°04’20’’ in east
direction. General level elevation is range from 291 MRL to 324
MRL.
Presently Baghai Limestone Mine has two active mining pits
B-4 & B-9, in B-4 Pit general stratigraphy is Soil, Intercalated
Rock, Limestone with various discontinuity distribution is the
area.
Whereas B-9 Pit general stratigraphy is
alluvial soil, intercalated rock then limestone, limestone trend
is continuous from north direction to south direction with
approx. 4°- 5° dipping towards south.

Baghai Limestone Mine- B-4 Pit-
• An area as shown in map is developed for limestone
raised followed by alluvial soil cutting of around
1-2m and separate staking done in B-4 Pit soil dump
• As per stratigraphy intercalated rock around
thickness of 7m thickness after alluvial soil is being
encounters, excavated and stacked in B-4 OB Dump.
• After intercalated rock, Limestone encounters having
thickness around 7-9 m.
• All mining is being done by fully mechanized system
of mining followed by Drilling, blasting, loading and
hauling through systematic developed mine haulage
roads.
• Haul road is connected with baghai village road
which is RCC road, through RCC road Limestone is
being haul through to PCL crusher or stock
• Soil Dump is of 10-12m height which is well
stablished and stabilization through long root grass
planation for binding the material together to
enhance the slope stability

Baghai Limestone Mine- B-9 Pit-
• In B-9 Pit, Alluvial soil (thickness 3-4m) is excavated
and stacked/used for the purpose backfilling of
mined out area.
• After alluvial soil, Intercalated rock (thickness- 9-
12m) is excavated and stacked/used for the purpose
of backfilling of mined out area.
• After intercalated rock. Limestone (thickness- 14-
15m) is encountered, which is mined out through
systematic development of 2 numbers of limestone
bench. 1st Limestone bench height is 8-9m and 2nd
limestone bench is proposed to be of 6-7m.
• All mining is being done by fully mechanized system
of mining followed by Drilling, blasting, loading and
hauling through systematic developed mine haulage
roads.
• Boulder generated through blasted in resized
through Rock breaker
• B-9 Pit is fully developed through Contractor
working.
