1 Year of School = 10-25% wage increase
Each extra year of primary school boosts girls’ eventual wages by
10-20%, 15-25% for extra year of secondary school.
For every 1 percentage point increase in the share of population aged 15-24
the risk of civil war increases by 4%. The Guatemala National Institute of Statistics reports
that nearly half of the population is under 18 years old and 20 percent of the population is between 15
and 29 years old. For a country with a 36 yearlong civil war in their recent past this is concerning.
Increasing education for girls will reduce poverty and maintain stability. For each additional year of
primary school a girl has completed she will have 0.26 fewer children. A girl who receives seven or more
years of education will marry 4 years later and have 2.2 fewer children.
EDUCATION = OPPORTUNITY = STABILITY

worried about not wanting to grow
up, we were all worried about the
harsh life awaiting us.”
