Corruption
Discrimination on the
basis of gender
2
Corruption
Corruption allocates resources and opportunities in ways
that are unfair and inefficient. The offering, promising,
accepting or soliciting of an inducement for an action
which is illegal or a breach of trust. Yet corruption is
found in every country, and it is widespread in some.
3
Where Corruption Is Rampant Across The World
4
Meaning of Ethics
5
Business Ethics
 A form of applied ethics or professional ethics that examines
ethical principles and moral or ethical problems that arise in a
business environment
 It applies to all aspects of business conduct and is relevant to the
conduct of individuals and entire organizations
6
Importance Of Ethics In Business
 Ethical behavior and corporate social responsibility can
bring significant benefits to a business
 attract customers to the firm's products, thereby boosting sales
and profits
 make employees to stay with the business, reduce labor turnover
and therefore increase productivity
 attract more employees wanting to work for the business, reduce
recruitment costs and enable the company to get the most
talented employees
 attract investors and keep the company's share price high, thereby
protecting the business from takeover.
7
Scale of Corruption
 Corruption can occur on different scales
 Petty corruption occurs at a smaller scale and within
established social frameworks and governing norms
 Grand corruption is defined as corruption occurring at the
highest levels of government in a way that requires significant
subversion of the political, legal and economic systems
 Systemic corruption (or endemic corruption)[5] is corruption
which is primarily due to the weaknesses of an organization or
process
8
Factor conducive for Corruption
• Lack of awareness
• Lack of proper Service-Level Agreements
• Lax supervision and monitoring of staff performance
• Discretion
• Absence of appropriate grievance Redressal mechanisms
• Obsolete policies
9
Effect of Corruption on Business
 Corruption is one of the worst enemies of business because it can result
in far-reaching consequences, including total closure of the company
 Corruption in business involves misappropriation of funds, bribery,
misuse of office by company officials and dishonesty in financial matters
 Corruption can hurt the image of the business and jeopardize its
profitability
10
Open Question related corruption
 For Governments:
 What should be the legal exposure of companies and employees for the corrupt
conduct of independent agencies and other third parties?
 How can organizations such as the UN and OECD contribute to the development of
a global anti-corruption regime—one that encourages enforcement in lagging
nations, and one that harmonizes differing legal formulas, enforcement
mechanisms, and embedded cultural behavior?
 For Companies:
 How do global businesses and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in different
legal systems and business cultures design, implement, and monitor systems that
promote compliance with the developing global anti-corruption regime?
 How can companies design compliance systems for limiting legal and reputational
risk for the corrupt conduct of third parties?
11
Conclusion
 Corruption is an intractable problem. It is like diabetes, can only
be controlled, but not totally eliminated. It may not be possible to
root out corruption completely at all levels but it is possible to
contain it within tolerable limits. Honest and dedicated persons in
public life, control over electoral expenses could be the most
important prescriptions to combat corruption. Corruption has a
corrosive impact on our economy. It worsens our image in
international market and leads to loss of overseas opportunities.
Corruption is a global problem that all countries of the world have
to confront, solutions, however, can only be home grown. We
have tolerated corruption for so long. The time has now come to
root it out from its roots.

Discrimination On The Basis Of Gender
13
Discrimination Based On Gender!
14
 Compensation differences appear to be tied to perceptions,
availability and fields genders specialize into
 Women are more represented in clerical and services occupations
while men are concentrated in craft and laborer jobs
 Men can travel easier than women due to family obligations
 Men with children appear to get an earnings boost whereas
women lose earnings
 Women on average have fewer years of work experience
15
Opinion Of Worker
on
Gender Discrimination
16
Case Study for Gender Discrimination
• In 2007, as a part of a study on gender discrimination, 48 male bank
supervisors were each given the same personnel file and asked to judge
whether the person should be promoted to a branch manager job that was
described as 'routine".
• The files were identical except that hall of supervisors had files showing the
person was male while the other half had files showing the person was
female.
• It was randomly determined which supervisors got-male applications and
which got 'female' application
• of the 48 files reviewed. 35 were promoted
• The study is testing whether females we unfairly Discriminated against.
17
18
The percentage of Democratic women who said they’ve experienced
discrimination on the basis of their race was 23 points higher than the percentage
of Republican women who said so – 62 percent to 39 percent. Among Independent
women, 46 percent said they’ve personally experienced gender-based
discrimination.
19
Conclusion
 From all the discussing above, gender inequality is obviously an
urgent problem in the world. Despite the fact that its volume
much decreases, it still exists and makes a lot of people suffer its
consequences every day. And there are many reasons leading to
gender discrimination which cannot be solved easily. However,
with education and progressive thoughts of people, there are also
reasons to trust in the future of gender inequality being stopped.
Then, hopefully, people can live in fairness no matter what gender
they are.
