2. INTRODUCTION
In the summer of 2016, I took up the
volunteer job of being a leader at my
church’s annual summer camp. It lasted for
4 days and nights and it was located at a
huge building in Langley. Many of my
friends also became leaders and we all had
a blast with the kids. All in all, it was a fun
and great experience that I learned a lot
from. On the right is a group picture of
some of the leaders with myself on the far

3. DESCRIPTION OF THE TYPE OF SERVICE
I took up the opportunity to volunteer as a leader for my
church. I was required to look over the kids for 4 days and
nights. This included checking up on every kid to make sure
they were well and making sure they went to sleep when they
were supposed to. In general, I was needed whenever there was
a problem and to make sure the whole camp went smoothly.
4. THE BENEFITS SOMEONE RECEIVES AS A
RESULT OF MY SERVICE
Firstly, the pastor of my church does not have to worry about the kids
all day and get to have his alone time to to do whatever he has to.
Also, the kids got to get lead by the youth volunteers which made the
atmosphere more kid-friendly since we understand the kids better
than the adults. This leads to us organizing fun activities that the kids
actually enjoy so they can have a good time. Lastly, the parents get to
have 4 days off to themselves which I’m sure they appreciated.
5. THE TYPES OF SKILLS REQUIRED
I had to be very patient with them as many kids were very young and
energetic. I also had to have an open mind with the kids and to learn
the technique in talking with little kids. Furthermore, I had to use my
teamwork and planning skills to prepare the activities for the next day
with my fellow camp leaders. Using my teamwork skills, I helped create
a fun and strong team of leaders that led many creative and exciting
activities for the kids. Many problems also occurred so my
fundamental thinking skills were needed to solve any conflicts or
difficulties.
6. DESCRIBE YOUR PARTICIPATION
I was one of the group leaders so I had to constantly look after
the kids for the whole duration of the camp. This included
organizing the kids into teams, leading bible studies, attend to
any injuries, telling them when to shower, ensuring they were
sleeping at the curfew etc. I also helped in the kitchen when I
could to increase the speed of the cooking process so the kids
could get their meals faster.
