2. My problem was how do you get something across
the room without getting up? You could use this if you
were sharing food with someone, but weren’t sitting
near each other. You could also use this if you were
disabled or had a foot injury. This invention could be
used for multiple things.
Problem To Solve
3. • My original idea was to get a string or pole to go
across the room. Then, I would get a tray and attach it
to the pole or string. After that, I would attach string
to both sides of the tray, for the people to pull.
• My hypothesis is that it will work, but only for lighter
objects. I also guess that I will have to try out a few
designs first.
Hypothesis and Best Solution
4. I chose this project, because it seemed like
a fun one to build and test. Also, it seemed
useful and like it would solve lots of
problems I had.
Why I Chose My Project
5. The thing I enjoyed most while doing my
project was testing my design. I liked
passing the objects back and forth.
What I enjoyed most while doing
my project
6. • 7 foot PVC pipe
• 15 feet of parachute chord string
• Bucket with holes or a handle
• 1 foot of a shoelace
Materials
7. First I bought all my materials. Next, I tied the parachute
string through the PVC pipe. After that, I used the
shoelace to tie the bucket to the parachute chord. Then
I started my test. I started out with one bean bag in the
bucket. Then, I would test it out with two. I eventually
got to a total of five beanbags at once.
Explanation of Procedures
8. • While I was doing my project, a problem I
encountered was that originally the parachute chord
kept getting stuck in the PVC pipe. The knot in the
chord kept getting caught. I fixed this by adding the
shoelace, so the parachute string wasn’t pulled as
tight.
• Another problem I encountered was that by the time
I got to five beanbags the bucket was kind of
unbalanced.
Problems Encountered
9. 1 Beanbag 2 Beanbags 3 Beanbags 4 Beanbags 5 Beanbags
Everything
worked well.
It was a little
slower, but it
still worked
well.
It was a little
unbalanced.
It got more
unbalanced,
but it still
worked
smoothly.
It was even
more
unbalanced,
but nothing
fell out.
Results
10. What I learned from doing this project was that your
final project normally won’t end up being the same as
your first design. I had to make a few adjustments and
change materials a few times until I got my project to
work.
What I learned from this activity
11. If I did this project again I would try to start it sooner so
then I could have tried to find a way to make it more
balanced in the end.
Things I would do differently next
time
12. For me the most difficult part of this project was just
making my first design, because I was having troubles
deciding how I wanted to design it. At first I had no idea
how to make it.
The most difficult part of this project
13. • Thanks to my mom for giving me the money to buy
my materials.
• Thank you Kendra for driving me to get my materials
and helping me test my project out.
• Thanks to my dad for finding me a PVC pipe.
