2. PROBLEM AND SOLUTION
My problem was that if I put on shorts a little
to big on the waist you have to put on a belt.
Now I have made a product that has a belt
already on the pair of shorts so it doesn’t
take as long.
3. WHY I CHOSE THIS
• I chose this project because It was the first
thing that came to mind that was actually
possible that wouldn’t cost a bunch of
money.
4. MY FAVORITE PART OF THIS PROJECT
• My favorite part of this project was figuring
out how to get the belt onto the shorts.
5. PROCEDURES
• 1) First you need to find a pair of shorts that are your size.
• 2)You will need scissors, a needle, thread, and a belt.
• 3) You will need to use the scissors to cut through all materials, 3 ½ in. from
either side of the buttons on the shorts.
• 4)You then will need to feed the belt through the slits that you cut.
• 5) After that you will need to take the needle and thread and sew the belt
onto the shorts.(The thread needs to be thick enough so it does not rip.)
• 6)When you sew the belt to the pants it does not matter how you do it just
that it is does well with enough material used.
• 7)When you are done sewing the sewing from start to finish should be about
1 ½ in. long and you should have used about 18 in. total in. of belt.
6. PROBLEMS DURING THE EXPERIMENT
At first I couldn’t find a way to attach the belt to the shorts.
I needed to find a needle stable enough to go through that thick of material.
The thread needed to be thick enough not to rip if something attached to it.
7. RESULTS
• When my project was finished the results were just as I had wanted. The
short’s belt was very secure onto the shorts by the thread that I used. When
my brother put them on to try them, his first words were “Hey this actually
works!!”
• After he had wore them around the house a little I looked at them, there
seemed to be no tears or rips of the thread so that was good. It was just as
easy to tighten the belt as it would normally be with a belt around the shorts.
• So overall the shorts did what I wanted them to do, and that was make a
faster and easier way to wear shorts with a belt when you put them on and
still as comfortable when you wear them around.
8. WHAT I LEARNED
• What I learned from this project was that If you don’t get something right the
first time keep trying because 90% of the time there is a solution so keep on
trying.
• Also I learned that there is this thing called a “thimble” so that when you sew
you don’t stab yourself with the needle. That would have been really helpful
for me to know because I stabbed myself a lot while sewing the belt to my
pants.
9. THINGS I WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME
One thing that I would do differently next time is I would have
started a lot earlier so I didn’t have to cram in working time at the
last minute.
Also I wish that I would have had a “thimble” so I wouldn’t have
stabbed myself so much.
10. MOST DIFFICULT PART
• The most difficult part of this project was finding a time that I
would be able to make my product.
• Also it was hard to draw the product that I created because of
how much it needed to be in detail.

materials I needed for the project and for teaching me how to hand sew.
