Business & Functions – Nestlé Bangladesh
Nestlé Bangladesh Limited markets its items all through the nation with the assistance of its wholesalers.
Aside from that, Nestlé Professional is a different capacity which is in charge of the institutional deal,
however it is breaking out of its edge and going for a more forceful method for offering the items by and
by in swarmed places, for example, Robindro Shorobor.
There are as of now 80 merchants of Nestlé Bangladesh results of which 76 are retail wholesalers and
remaining 4 are Nestlé Professional's wholesalers giving items to the out of home utilizations. The entire
nation is separated into seven locales: Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Chittagong, Bogra, Khulna, Sylhet, Barisal.
Functions of Nestlé Bangladesh:
As appeared in the association structure, Nestlé Bangladesh has 10 capacities, among which the Managing
executive controls 3 and the rest is controlled by their individual chiefs. The General Management take
considerations of the general operation of the organization, while keeping up their standard administrative
issues and taking key choices. The Manufacturing Function is the place a few items are made (like Munch,
Maggi) and a few, as Nido are repacked. The Human Resources work concentrates on the administration of
representatives and hierarchical culture, and also holding the general population, spurring them more with
every passing day. Store network guarantees the steady supply of the items as per the request of the clients.
Promoting takes care of the current brands, piece of the overall industry and item advancement of the
items. Back and control manages the money related exchanges and in particular they likewise apply the

While all around Nestlé's item ranges are immense, it's still in its creating stage in Bangladesh. As per inside
perceptions and buyer criticism, the principle rivalry Nestlé Bangladesh is confronting regarding Culinary is
originating from the exceptionally late coming of 'Mother Noodles', and 'Knorr Soup'. While it is genuine
most in Bangladesh basically grew up with Maggi noodles, the purchasers are continually searching for
something other than what's expected, keeping in mind Maggi gives all the fundamental sustenance, many
claim that it needs in taste. Comparative circumstance if there should arise an occurrence of Maggi soup
versus Knorr soup. Be that as it may, Maggi still is, ahead of the pack as far as piece of the overall industry.
While Munch rolls are to a great degree modest and as indicated by purchasers, taste great, individuals still
favor KitKat despite the fact that it's estimated higher. Yes, KitKat is a Nestlé item, yet not promoted by
Nestlé Bangladesh, and are fundamentally accessible even in the littlest shops, though there were times
where it has been watched that chomp rolls are not accessible all over the place. Additionally, many
individuals have scrutinized the legitimacy of the chocolate utilized as a part of Munch moves, since it's
estimated that low. Besides that, shoppers with a low wage go favor the national brands at any rate.
Kellogs is a far surely understood name in Bangladesh than Nestlé is, with regards to breakfast grain. It has
been called attention to that Nestlé oats end quick because of the littler size in contrast with Kellogs
bundles, yet there have been no protests about taste.
The circumstance is somewhat more joyful with regards to child nutrition s, on the grounds that Cerelac still
is the main selection of moms, and possesses a major piece of the overall industry. Also, Nescafe is
obviously, the main decision as far as Coffee.
Buyers guarantee Nido to be over costly, as well as unfortunate, because of a considerable measure of
debates identified with this specific item. Consequently, they incline toward Marks, Dano, Diploma and so
on over it.

Nutrition Function
The nutrition department contributes the most noteworthy as far as deals and incomes, furthermore holds
the most noteworthy piece of the overall industry in the sustenance department in contrast with its rivals,
for example, Biomil, My Boy, Horlicks, Dano, Baby Care, Nactalia and others. The accomplishment behind
this department owes to the Nutrition Director of Nestlé, Luke John Gomes, who has been driving the office
to the most astounding step of achievement through his unmistakable procedures and the unremitting
duty, diligent work and support of the nutrition group.
Johnson clarifies that the departmentalization procedure brings about groupings of utilitarian regions,
departments or groups. Nestlé utilizes a useful authoritative structure where individuals with comparable
information and aptitudes are assembled together. This makes it feasible for representatives to end up
experts in their field. The Nutrition department has been isolated into four groups – Performance
Development Team, Field Operation Team, Scientific Affairs and Compliance Team and Marketing Team.
The foundation of this entire department is the Area Nutrition Officers/Nutrition Officers from the Field
Operation Team who execute the BTL battle. The reason for this battle is to fabricate mark mindfulness and
drive deals through particular offers/advancements (Wikipedia.org). Since newborn child recipe or infant
sustenance items for kids under the age 5 can't be advanced under BMS and WHO Code, the recorded
operation group can't speak with the objective clients (moms) and along these lines through BTL crusade
the group focuses on the wellbeing experts as our objective clients settle on buy choice in light of master
feeling.
This group is upheld by bolstered by Performance Development Team which prepares and creates them
how to persuade or manage the Health Care Professionals. Logical Affairs and Compliance Team furnishes
them with all the logical data that ought to be dissimilated to the wellbeing experts and ensure that their
exercises are inside the consistence. At that point there is Marketing Team who has general obligation
regarding developing income, expanding piece of the pie and adding to organization development and
productivity (Ian Linton). The key obligation of Nutrition Marketing group is to make request on shopper's
end and increment purchaser engagement through execution of different exercises and ceaselessly
concocting new advertising methodologies without disregarding the BMS and WHO Code.

Breast Milk Substitute Act
Nestle believe that breast-milk is the best food for infants. When mothers and families, together with
healthcare providers, decide that optimal breastfeeding is not possible, infant formula – the only breast-
milk substitute (BMS) recognized by the WHO – plays a vital role in providing essential nutrients to infants.
Nestle remain committed to the highest standards of responsible marketing of BMS.
Nestlé Bangladesh follows Breast Milk Substitute Charter and also complies with The Infant Milk Substitutes,
Feeding Bottles and Infant Foods (Regulation of Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 1992 that guides
the sale of infant nutrition products in Bangladesh. Nestlé Bangladesh does not advertise it´s Infant Nutrition

How Goals Are Achieved?
The objective of the department is accomplished through key arranging key arranging with the assistance
of Nestlé Continuous Excellence. Key arranging is a hierarchical administration action that is utilized to set
needs, center vitality and assets, reinforce operations, guarantee that representatives and different partners
are progressing in the direction of shared objectives and results/comes about, and evaluate and modify the
association's course in light of an evolving domain (Balanced Scorecard Institute). Nestlé Nutrition
Department takes after a framework way to deal with do its key arranging adequately; it's called "Nestlé
Continuous Excellence" (NCE) which vision is zero waste, one group and 100% engagement. Through this

Learning Outcomes

While working for Nestle Nutrition I have learnt many things. I have learnt how to deal with difficult people.
I have learnt certain soft skills on excel and I have learnt many scientific terms related to Nestle Nutrition
products like CERELAC, Lactogen, and Nido. I have learnt event management skills and how to push vendors
and get things done. This was a key issue as vendors tend to make many mistake so I had to reject their
output and make them understand further times and get desired results from them.
Moreover, I had on-the-field experience by visiting different factories, institutions, hospitals and vendors
and get in-depth knowledge on how actually the field force people are executing the projects.
Form the organization as a whole, as Nestle has a diverse business with a global mind-set, I have learnt how
to benefit from different cultures and new local perspectives.
I have discovered that all entry level positions have some common characteristics. Individual responsibility
and autonomy are facts of life here.

For this section, let the pictures speak louder than words:
Difficulties & Challenges
This was my first day at Nestle along with
my fellow colleagues Sajeed Ismail and
Mahmudul Hassan Farazi.
Date: 1st
of Spetember 2016. My
colleagues make my life easier. They give
me moral support and helps me
relentlessly whenever needed.
On the right, is Mr. Ruhul Amin,
Executive – Brand Activation at Nestlé
Bangladesh. He is my Line Manager. I
admire him a lot and I am constantly
learning from him. He is very nice
person and very cooperative.
I need not to say further about work
environment at Nestlé. Just look at me,
how passionately I am working and
how deep I am indulged into my job!

I have joined Nestle Nutrition Function in September 2016. Till date, I have faced many challenges and
difficulties while working in this department. Initially I had difficulties with understanding the rules and
regulations regarding workplace conduct. It has been seen I ended up doing something that was not a
professional gesture. My line manager was very cooperative in this regard and helped me acquaint with the
norms every time I faced such situation. After first month and till now, I can proudly say that I didn’t make
those same mistake again.
While dealing with my assigned roles and responsibilities, I faced certain challenges like meeting strict
deadlines and deliver the deliverables in due time while not compromising with quality. It has been seen
that in a day I had to complete 3-4 tasks that would require me to postpone my lunch break but however,
my line manager was satisfied with my output.
Another difficulty that I faced is conflict of interest. It has been also seen that quite often I am hand-over
tasks from numerous line managers along with my own assigned line managers. In that case, I had to
definitely prioritize my own line manager but had to be super-efficient so that I can work for all of them
and I had to allocate and divide time for my tasks. So, time management was key here.
Lastly, the most difficult challenge I faced was to deal with different vendors, Area Nutrition Officers,
Maternal Nutrition Officers and other Field Force Executives. While working for various projects I had to
deal with these group of people and I had strict instructions from my line manager to collect data, report,
feedback, deliverables as applicable from these people. Being an Intern it was difficult to monitor and get
things done from personnel who are very senior to you. So, this aspect of my work challenged my people
management skills severely. I am again proud to say that I did manage to coordinate with all the people for
around 2 months in a row and get my desired output from them time to time and make my line manager
satisfied.

Expectation vs Reality
To be very honest with you I had very high expectation from this platform. As it in a Multinational Company
and I heard from my seniors that this organization is very famous for its work environment and the people
who work here. So, I was expecting similar vibe when I am part of this family.
To my utter disbelief, once I joined here and as days passed by I am simply amused by the gesture this
organization has shown to me and other interns who work here. We are empowered, we are respected, we
are acknowledged, we are listened, and most importantly, we are valued.
At Nestle, there’s no culture of “boss/sir” everyone addresses everyone as “bhaiya/apu”. At the end of the
month there’s an evaluation day where we update our progress ofthe month and employee(s) of the month
receives “GreatNess” card as a token of appreciation for his/her contribution signed by the Nutrition
Director, Luke Gomes. Surprisingly, Interns are also counted in this list and if any Intern demonstrates
outstanding performance in a given month he/she can also expect to receive this award. So this is something
that was beyond my expectation.

Influence on Career Path
I always wanted to work in a multinational company since my sophomore years in university. To be precise,
I wanted to see myself as a dynamic marketing manager in corporate world. This platform is undoubtedly
working as the stepping stone towards my road to success. I am trying to learn as much as I can and I am
trying to contribute to my best using my skills, expertise, creativity, so that I can impress the stakeholders
and I want to be a brand ambassador of this organization so that whenever someone asks me anything
about this company, I can face it with logic and value judgement.
As a professional, you’ll find you have a wider sphere of influence and more freedom than elsewhere. So
you’ll be able to broaden or deepen your existing job responsibilities as well as having the opportunity to
progress upwards.
There are three factors that will help shape my career growth while working at Nestlé:
 Core factors: These are non-negotiable; they are the qualities I must have if I was to make the most
of all the opportunities the organization has to offer. These include my sustainable performance,
the knowledge and skills I have about my function, the business and myself, plus my leadership
skills and critical experience.
 Accelerators: This is the name we give to the qualities that will determine how far and how fast
you progress and develop. These include my mobility, my flexibility to move between functions and
categories, how well I network and how open I am to new experiences.
 Opportunities: These are the factors that are more dependent on circumstances and activities
elsewhere in the business. Opportunities can spring from new roles, new positions and new
assignments.

What would I do Newly?
Well unlike others, I am not getting done with this journey as yet. It is a yearlong contract and I am still
exploring it. So at this moment I may not be able to give any concrete answer to this.
However, I would like to suggest the HR of the organization, that before recruiting any new Interns, they
should ensure that adequate number of devices are ready for use by the Interns. I personally faced this
problem, and I had to use someone else’s laptop for a couple of days which is a problem for both me and
the person I am bothering.
On the other note, I will not be saying like many others that in future I would like to switch department,
because to be honest, I am enjoying my work here and I think I am in the right place where I can demonstrate
my caliber and foster in a progressive pattern.

  • 12. Nestlé Nutrition | Together Nurturing a Healthier Generation Page 12 of 27 While all around Nestlé's item ranges are immense, it's still in its creating stage in Bangladesh. As per inside perceptions and buyer criticism, the principle rivalry Nestlé Bangladesh is confronting regarding Culinary is originating from the exceptionally late coming of 'Mother Noodles', and 'Knorr Soup'. While it is genuine most in Bangladesh basically grew up with Maggi noodles, the purchasers are continually searching for something other than what's expected, keeping in mind Maggi gives all the fundamental sustenance, many claim that it needs in taste. Comparative circumstance if there should arise an occurrence of Maggi soup versus Knorr soup. Be that as it may, Maggi still is, ahead of the pack as far as piece of the overall industry. While Munch rolls are to a great degree modest and as indicated by purchasers, taste great, individuals still favor KitKat despite the fact that it's estimated higher. Yes, KitKat is a Nestlé item, yet not promoted by Nestlé Bangladesh, and are fundamentally accessible even in the littlest shops, though there were times where it has been watched that chomp rolls are not accessible all over the place. Additionally, many individuals have scrutinized the legitimacy of the chocolate utilized as a part of Munch moves, since it's estimated that low. Besides that, shoppers with a low wage go favor the national brands at any rate. Kellogs is a far surely understood name in Bangladesh than Nestlé is, with regards to breakfast grain. It has been called attention to that Nestlé oats end quick because of the littler size in contrast with Kellogs bundles, yet there have been no protests about taste. The circumstance is somewhat more joyful with regards to child nutrition s, on the grounds that Cerelac still is the main selection of moms, and possesses a major piece of the overall industry. Also, Nescafe is obviously, the main decision as far as Coffee. Buyers guarantee Nido to be over costly, as well as unfortunate, because of a considerable measure of debates identified with this specific item. Consequently, they incline toward Marks, Dano, Diploma and so on over it.

I have learnt event management skills and how to push vendors and get things done. This was a key issue as vendors tend to make many mistake so I had to reject their output and make them understand further times and get desired results from them. Moreover, I had on-the-field experience by visiting different factories, institutions, hospitals and vendors and get in-depth knowledge on how actually the field force people are executing the projects. Form the organization as a whole, as Nestle has a diverse business with a global mind-set, I have learnt how to benefit from different cultures and new local perspectives. I have discovered that all entry level positions have some common characteristics. Individual responsibility and autonomy are facts of life here. The people & Work Environment

Date: 1st of Spetember 2016. My colleagues make my life easier. They give me moral support and helps me relentlessly whenever needed. On the right, is Mr. Ruhul Amin, Executive – Brand Activation at Nestlé Bangladesh. He is my Line Manager. I admire him a lot and I am constantly learning from him. He is very nice person and very cooperative. I need not to say further about work environment at Nestlé. Just look at me, how passionately I am working and how deep I am indulged into my job!
  • 22. Nestlé Nutrition | Together Nurturing a Healthier Generation Page 22 of 27 I have joined Nestle Nutrition Function in September 2016. Till date, I have faced many challenges and difficulties while working in this department. Initially I had difficulties with understanding the rules and regulations regarding workplace conduct. It has been seen I ended up doing something that was not a professional gesture. My line manager was very cooperative in this regard and helped me acquaint with the norms every time I faced such situation. After first month and till now, I can proudly say that I didn’t make those same mistake again. While dealing with my assigned roles and responsibilities, I faced certain challenges like meeting strict deadlines and deliver the deliverables in due time while not compromising with quality. It has been seen that in a day I had to complete 3-4 tasks that would require me to postpone my lunch break but however, my line manager was satisfied with my output. Another difficulty that I faced is conflict of interest. It has been also seen that quite often I am hand-over tasks from numerous line managers along with my own assigned line managers. In that case, I had to definitely prioritize my own line manager but had to be super-efficient so that I can work for all of them and I had to allocate and divide time for my tasks. So, time management was key here. Lastly, the most difficult challenge I faced was to deal with different vendors, Area Nutrition Officers, Maternal Nutrition Officers and other Field Force Executives. While working for various projects I had to deal with these group of people and I had strict instructions from my line manager to collect data, report, feedback, deliverables as applicable from these people. Being an Intern it was difficult to monitor and get things done from personnel who are very senior to you. So, this aspect of my work challenged my people management skills severely. I am again proud to say that I did manage to coordinate with all the people for around 2 months in a row and get my desired output from them time to time and make my line manager satisfied.
  • 23. Nestlé Nutrition | Together Nurturing a Healthier Generation Page 23 of 27 Expectation vs Reality To be very honest with you I had very high expectation from this platform. As it in a Multinational Company and I heard from my seniors that this organization is very famous for its work environment and the people who work here. So, I was expecting similar vibe when I am part of this family. To my utter disbelief, once I joined here and as days passed by I am simply amused by the gesture this organization has shown to me and other interns who work here. We are empowered, we are respected, we are acknowledged, we are listened, and most importantly, we are valued. At Nestle, there’s no culture of “boss/sir” everyone addresses everyone as “bhaiya/apu”. At the end of the month there’s an evaluation day where we update our progress ofthe month and employee(s) of the month receives “GreatNess” card as a token of appreciation for his/her contribution signed by the Nutrition Director, Luke Gomes. Surprisingly, Interns are also counted in this list and if any Intern demonstrates outstanding performance in a given month he/she can also expect to receive this award. So this is something that was beyond my expectation.
  • 24. Nestlé Nutrition | Together Nurturing a Healthier Generation Page 24 of 27 Influence on Career Path I always wanted to work in a multinational company since my sophomore years in university. To be precise, I wanted to see myself as a dynamic marketing manager in corporate world. This platform is undoubtedly working as the stepping stone towards my road to success. I am trying to learn as much as I can and I am trying to contribute to my best using my skills, expertise, creativity, so that I can impress the stakeholders and I want to be a brand ambassador of this organization so that whenever someone asks me anything about this company, I can face it with logic and value judgement. As a professional, you’ll find you have a wider sphere of influence and more freedom than elsewhere. So you’ll be able to broaden or deepen your existing job responsibilities as well as having the opportunity to progress upwards. There are three factors that will help shape my career growth while working at Nestlé:  Core factors: These are non-negotiable; they are the qualities I must have if I was to make the most of all the opportunities the organization has to offer. These include my sustainable performance, the knowledge and skills I have about my function, the business and myself, plus my leadership skills and critical experience.  Accelerators: This is the name we give to the qualities that will determine how far and how fast you progress and develop. These include my mobility, my flexibility to move between functions and categories, how well I network and how open I am to new experiences.  Opportunities: These are the factors that are more dependent on circumstances and activities elsewhere in the business. Opportunities can spring from new roles, new positions and new assignments.
  • 25. Nestlé Nutrition | Together Nurturing a Healthier Generation Page 25 of 27 What would I do Newly? Well unlike others, I am not getting done with this journey as yet. It is a yearlong contract and I am still exploring it. So at this moment I may not be able to give any concrete answer to this. However, I would like to suggest the HR of the organization, that before recruiting any new Interns, they should ensure that adequate number of devices are ready for use by the Interns. I personally faced this problem, and I had to use someone else’s laptop for a couple of days which is a problem for both me and the person I am bothering. On the other note, I will not be saying like many others that in future I would like to switch department, because to be honest, I am enjoying my work here and I think I am in the right place where I can demonstrate my caliber and foster in a progressive pattern.
