B. Presentation
ALLAN RAMSAY
Allan Ramsay- was Born on October
15, 1686, and died on January 07,
1758. Ramsay was a Scottish poet
playwright, publisher and librarian
during Middle English Perod.
As we read the poem, I want you to
listen carefully because I will ask some
questions after that.
“Twas in the merry month of May
When green buds all were swellin'
Sweet John on his death bed lay
For love of Barbara Allen
He sent his servant to the town
To the place where she was dwellin'
Saying, "You must come to my master,
dear
If your name be Barbara Allen"
So slowly, slowly she got up
And slowly she drew nigh him
And the only words to him did say
"Young man, I think you're dying"
He turned his face unto the wall
And death was in him wellin'
"Goodbye, goodbye to my friends all
Be good to Barbara Allen"
When he was dead and laid in grave
She heard the death bells knellin'
And every stroke to her did say
"Hard-hearted Barbara Allen"
"Oh, mother, oh, mother, go dig my
grave
Make it both long and narrow
Sweet John died of love for me
And I will die of sorrow"
"And father, oh, father, go dig my grave
Make it both long and narrow
Sweet William died on yesterday
And I will die tomorrow"
Barbara Allen was buried in the old
churchyard
Sweet John was buried beside her
Out of sweet William's heart there grew
a rose
Out of Barbara Allen's, a briar
They grew and grew in the old
churchyard
Till they could grow no higher
At the end they formed a true lover's
knot
And the rose grew 'round the briar.
Motive Questions:
 Who is the author of the poem?
 What is the title of the poem?
 Who called for Barbara Allan to
come?
 How did Barbara Allan feel about
the man?
Who is the author of the poem again?
Yes, Jeon?
And what is the title of the poem?
Very Good!
Now let’s go back to the poem, kindly
read the 1st stanza. Yes, Marilou?
And what is your understanding of that?
Kindly read the 2nd stanza? Yes,
hanny?
What is your understanding on that?
Ma’am the author of the poem is
Allan Ramsay
The title of the poem is Bony
Barbara Allan
It was in and about the Martinmas
time
When the green leaves were a-
falling,
That sir John Greame, in the west
Country,
Fell in love with Barbara Allan
Sir John Greame was in love with
Barbara.
He sent his man down through the
town,
To the place where she was
dwelling;
“O haste and come to my master
dear,
Gin ye be Barbara Allan”
In order to see Barbara Allan, Sir
John Greme told his servant to fetch
Very Good!
How about the last stanza? Who can
read? Yes, miles?
What is your understanding of that?
Very well said!
Now, what kind of love that is shown the
poem?
Excellent!
The poet believes that love is not
always happy but in order for you to
become happy, you have to take the
bullets of pain. That love story was not
always happy ending.
her in her place where she was
dwelling.
Barbara Allan realized that she was
also in love but it’s too late because
Sir John passed away.
They grew and grew in the old
churchyard
Till they could grow no higher
At the end they formed a true lover's
knot
And the rose grew 'round the briar
The kind of love that is shown,
ma’am is a kind that is tragic. Since
there is regret especially at the
ending.
a. Answering of Motive
Questions
Who is the author of the poem, again?
Yes, jay?
Very Good!
Allan Ramsay
What is the title of the poem? Yes,
hope?
Who called Barbara Allan to come?
What Barbara Allan feel about Sir. John
Gremme?
In your own opinion, what do you think
the message of the poem? Yes, Hobi?
Very well said Hobi!
We don’t know when, where or who
would die, so if you have a time take a
risk. Don’t be afraid everything is scary
but you have to face it and risk
everything.
The title of the poem is Bony
Barbara Allan.
Sir John told his servant to fetch
Barbara Allan to their house.
Barbara Allan realized that she was
also in love but it was too late
because he passed away.
The message of the poem was
always take a risk, you don’t know
when, where you would die, so if
you have a chance take a risk.
C. Generalization
Okay, so what is your understanding
about the poem?
Very well said!
Ma’am I’ve understood that Bony
Barbara regret after Sir John passed
away. Bony Barbara didn’t get a
chance to express her feelings
towards Sir. John, so in order to for
her to prove her feelings she wants
to be with him.
Bony Barbara didn’t get a chance to
express her feelings because Sir. John
passed way due to alcoholic. So in
order to express her feelings towards
him, she wants to take away her life.
D. Application
Direction: Group yourselves in to two
group.
For the Group 1, I want you to make
your own Happy ending about the poem
through a role play.
The Group 2, will be making their own
Happy ending through a lyrics.
You will be rated on their respective
rubrics.
E. Values Integration
Okay! Again what is our topic for today?
Okay, now do you have the similar
experience from the characters of the
poem?
Okay, what did you do?
Bony Barbara Allan ma’am.
Ma’am, I also experience of what
Bony Barbara Allan felt that day
when she knew that John was
dying.
I experience that when I was in
Elementary days, I didn’t totally
express my feelings towards my
family. Until one day my Grandpa
passed away and I didn’t express
how much I love him.
What are your realizations based in
your experience?
Well said!
Everything is risky, so in order for us to
survive, we have to face it and make it.
Love is always unconditional, love is not
always happy ending.
Is there any questions?
Clarifications?
Of course, I would express my
feelings and acceptance, I would
take a risk because as what I’ve
understand on the poem that we
discussed everything is risky but you
have to make it.
None so far ma’am.
F. Evaluation
