Your predominant leadership style is:
Navigator
High need for control + High need for involvement
Navigators can see their primary responsibility as ‘steering the ship’. They decide on the course of
action to take and make sure that their decisions are carried out in the most effective way. They tend to
have a strong need to be involved in all day-to-day operations and like to do most things themselves.
A navigator can find it difficult to let go of responsibilities and delegate tasks to others. They tend to
feel that they are the only person who can complete a task to their standards. Being visible and highly
involved in the business can help staff to feel connected to the business owner with a clear sense of
direction. However, staff may also feel that they are being supervised, with little room for autonomy. As
the navigator focuses on maintaining control of the business, they can find it difficult to find the time or
resources to think beyond the current business situation. This can make it difficult for them to make
strategic plans.
Strengths
Strong sense of direction and purpose.
Prefers action and getting things done.
Weaknesses
Tends not to value others’ opinions.
Can find it difficult to let go of responsibilities, reducing opportunities for delegation.
