McSilver?

4. Participatory research has been described as “providing
direct benefit to participants either through direct
intervention or by using the results to inform action
for change” (Israel et al., 1998, p. 175).
What distinguishes participatory research efforts from
other approaches is the emphasis on the intensive
and ongoing participation of direct service providers
and community members in creating knowledge (Israel,
Schulz, Parker, & Becker, 1998).
