Shop windows are the soul of the shop. They create the first contact with potential customer. they
attract passers-by, they can convey a specific message & spread the culture of the brand.

3. Classified by location, there are two type of shop windows.
1: Shop windows that face a street
In both cases we must take care to counteract the “Fishbowl” effect.This happens when reflections of objects outside
the shop fall on the shop window and obscure the view that passer-by would otherwise have of the merchandise on
display. These are sometimes called “veiling” refletions because they act like a veil, obscuring a views.
In the first picture, veiling
reflections of buildings on the
opposite side of the street detract
from the view of the clothing on
display. Compare this with the second
picture where there are no such
reflections and the view of the
models is uninterrupted. One way to
overcome veiling reflections is to
increase the light level the shop
windows.

How to reduce fishbowl effect---A number of steps can be taken depending on the situation:
1.Increasing the number of fitings, divide them into groups and have them all on during the day( when the fishbowl
ieffect is usually worst) but turn some off at night.
2.Increasing the overall light level in the shop window and make sure there are no dark areas. If we only light
certain areas of a shop window the fishbowl effect is easily formed in the unlit areas.
3. For shop windows exposed to direct sunlight consider the use of a sunshade or canopy.

space behind it. It can be used
to create an atmosphere,
promote a brand image and to
tell a story.
A wide range of different lighting

by and create a sence of space.
Lighting should be used to
highlight the merchandise on
display. Careful attention should
be paid to the relationship
between the merchandise and
the background.

zones inside.
The lighting here must be
intergrated with the interior store

For the best view of a
model lighting should
be focused on the
shoulders. If a model
is lit from directly
above, though there
will be light on the
shoulders, the face
and much of the
b o d y w i l l b e i n
shadow. This should
be avoided.
If lit slightly from the
front, with the light
f i t t i n g a t l e a s t
300mm away from
the vertical, the
illumination of the
face and the body is
greatly improved.

To add interest and to help create a 3D effect, consider lighting models with
two fixtures, each at about 45° from the front of the model. This also
improves the view of the model when seen by people as they pass across
the front of the window.

We could use the same lighting fixture with different beam angle, using the track light
with wide beam angle to wash the background and provide the basic light.
We could use the track light with middle beam angle for the models and props. The
light could illuminate models sufficiently and should focus on the shoulders of the
models.
