This document shows the percentage of people aged 15 and over with a bank account in various sub-Saharan African countries according to World Bank data from 2018. The percentages range from 3.5% in Niger to 68.8% in South Africa, with most countries below 30%. The low level of banking penetration across sub-Saharan Africa represents an opportunity for growth of Islamic finance, particularly in predominantly Muslim African nations.
