3. « A residence »…
what are we talking about?
“We call residence the invitation to artists
in a place that offers them the means
and tools to achieve an artistic creation.”
4. Residencies in our way
• Stakeholders: artist(s); librarians; public; partner(s)
• Spirit of collaboration
• Artistic and cultural project
• Precisely defined duration
• A space and time for creation: an 85-seat auditorium for
several weeks
• Means for the artistic work: technical and logistic
backup; financial support
• Various public sessions (meetings, workshops, open
rehearsals, performances, lectures, exhibitions…)
5. A residence : what for ?
• To support emerging artists
• To raise the awareness of the general public to
the creative process of a performance
• To link creation to the library’s resources

6. A residence in a few figures
• 4 to 7 months of artistic presence at the library
• 60 rehearsal days
• 13 public sessions
• 500 participants

10. Our intuitions and questions…
what do YOU think about it ?
By ranking as a creation
place, the library becomes a
place of risk, of
« disorder »,
experimentation,
sensibility… A place that
sets the body as well as the
intelligence in motion.
Is supporting
artistic creation
the role of a
library ?
As a librarian, one
doesn’t always feel in
one’s own right
handling artistic
creation.
11. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION,
…now let’s share ideas !
