Abstract
The purpose of the study is to bring forth a new concept in management that can facilitate holistic
utilization of the resources other than human resource in any organization. The concept I have proposed
will help, analyzing the assets available in an organization and also will help in obtaining an income from
those resources, if possible.
Introduction
Any organization to function properly needs resources. The resources play a vital role in determining the
quality of the organization and its product. Understanding the importance of resources led to the
formation of the term called resource management.
Resource management in simple terms with respect to any organization can be defined as managing
resources in the organization effectively at the same time with efficiency. This definition does not state
any detail or methodology of the utilization resources in an organization. As utilization of resources
needs to be carefully examined, there came into existence a new term called utilization management.
Utilization Management is defined as a set of techniques that is used by or on behalf of health care
benefits to manage health care costs by influencing patient care decision-making through case-by-case
assessment of the appropriateness of care prior to its provision. It can be clearly understood from the
definition that it confines itself to only the health care sector. Utilization of resources is common and it
is essential in every field, in organization and also cannot be confined to one specific sector like Health
care. This idea helps us to expand this definition to a larger section of the organizations and its sectors
belonging to them. Another important term that has been into play before the 19th
century was holistic
management.
The definition of holistic management encloses itself to agriculture sector. Holistic Management is a
framework, most commonly applied to grassland management, that when properly practiced has the
potential to regenerate damaged land. It focuses on mimicking the evolutionary grazing patterns of
cattle to regenerate soils and restore grasslands. This technique was started by the people from the
southernmost part of India. Then later spread across the globe. This technique has proved effective in
hundreds of areas across the globe.
Why not apply the same technique in the business? The application of holistic management can help in
developing more interaction and interdependency between different departments in the organization.
Holistic Utilization Management is management technique that helps the organization to understand its
availability of resources and to help them utilize the resources optimally, producing profit from each
department if possible.

Optimal resource utilization Vs Holistic utilization management
Optimal resource utilization mainly focuses on utilization of resources at an optimal level. Holistic
utilization also deals with the utilization but in this case the utilization of resources together is
considered together as one whole entity. Studying the resources available in the organization is
important in holistic utilization management.
Asset management Vs Holistic utilization management
Asset management, broadly defined, refers to any system that monitors and maintains things of value to
an entity or group. It may apply to both tangible assets (such as buildings) and to intangible assets such
as human capital, intellectual property, goodwill and/or financial assets). Asset management is a
systematic process of developing, operating, maintaining, upgrading, and disposing of assets cost-
effectively.
Holistic management gives primary attention to the assets that are except humans in any organization.
Holistic utilization management cares more about the utilization methodology and the process that are
carried out while the resources are being used. It also takes into consideration that the resources are
not exploited.
Holistic Utilization Management, How it helps?
Resource management is more focused on human resource in any organization but in the concept
Holistic utilization management, the assets that are available in any organization is given more attention
than human resource.
The prime aim of any organization is to gain profit and satisfy the needs of the people working for the
organization. What if the there was a possibility of producing profit from the resources that are
sometimes not used? For example during summer holidays the school is left idle for 2 months
approximately. During the holidays the classrooms can be used for any other purpose.
The Concept of Holistic Utilization Management
Holistic utilization management aims to help any organization utilize the all of its resources to a greater
extend. Every resource found in the organization must be taken into consideration. The utilization of
every resource must help the organization grow and get profit. This profit can help improve the quality
of other departments.

How does it work (with an example)?
To understand this concept let us take a school for an example.
Schools normally have school buses. These buses normally have two shifts loading kids in the morning
from their respective bus stops and unloading them in the evening or sometimes in the afternoon.
These buses are not used after their morning shift until evening or afternoon. During such times these
buses can operate and help the people near the locality use it as a public transport. This can be planned
by the school accordingly so that the timings do not collide with the students’. This method can help
people at the same time charging them tickets which can give profit.
In this scenario, the school (organization) with the help of school buses (resources) is used greater
(greater utilization of resource) than in normal case and issuing tickets for the locals using it provides
profit.
Holistic utilization management team and its working
1. The team specializing in holistic utilization management will take into account all the resources
that are available in the organization.
2. After the listing of resources, the team will analyze the assets the organization owns and will
create a project proposal stating the possibilities of having an income from it.
3. After the acceptance, the project will be started and all the necessary steps will be carried by
the holistic utilization management team.
4. With a procured profit the team then helps in investing the profits in any other resources in the
organization.
Holistic utilization at home
This method can also be applied in homes. The utilization of resources at home sometimes falls short.
Sometimes all the resources at home are not utilized well. Such resources can be taken into
consideration and through proper planning those items/resources can be given as a rent to someone
who is willing to take it.
This method not only procures an income out of the resources that are not used but also helps in
granting more space at home.

Conclusion:
Management is important concept that stands quintessential in every part of life. For an organization it
is all the more essential. The resources in any organization must be utilized properly so that nothing is
wasted . Any idle resource is considered a loss. These kinds of loss when not considered might grew to
a greater extend. So the organization must take into consideration all the resources so that it can
identify the resources that are not in use.
To summarize, this paper introduces a new concept called holistic utilization management. This concept
as stated in the paper helps managing all the resources and takes care about the utilization. The
interdependency among the resources while being utilized has to be considered in holistic utilization
management.
