3. What are the shrubs ?
A shrub is a small to medium sized perennial woody plant.
Shrub has persistent woody stems above the ground.
Shrubs can be deciduous or evergreen.
shrubs are distinguished from trees by their height and multiple stems.
Small shrubs, less than 2 m (6.6 ft) tall are sometimes termed as subshrubs.
4. Types of shrubs
There are various kinds and types of shrubs that can be grown in our yards
and gardens, but here are the main two types: evergreen shrubs & deciduous
shrubs
Evergreen shrubs :evergreen shrubs retain its leaves all year. These are
especially valued in landscaping.
Deciduous shrubs : deciduous shrubs lose their leaves in winter. These are
valued for their beautiful colours when their leaves turn during fall.
6. Bougainville
Bougainvillea plants are fast growers and have stiff stems with thorns covered heart-shaped leaves. Their vines can grow up to 40 feet tall with support.
Low-growing ,shrubby only get a few feet tall and can be grown in containers.
7. Lemon
The lemon is a species of evergreen shrubs in flowering plant family Rutaceae, native to Asia ,primarily northeast india,
northern Myanmar or China.
8. China rose
Rosa chinensis, commonly known as China rose,is a member of genus Rosa native to southwest China. The first publication
of Rosa chine sis was in 1768 by Nikolaus Joseph Von Jacquin in observationum botanicarum.
9. Jasmine
Jasmine is a genus of shrubs and vines in olive family.it contains around 200 species native to tropical and warm
temperate regions of Eurasia ,Africa and Oceania.jasmines are widely cultivated for the characteristics fragrance of their
flowers.
10. Benefits of shrubs
Shrubs play a major role in preventing water pollution and soil erosion.
They are a source of fuel wood ,lumber and poles.
They are a source of foodstuffs such as fruits, leaves, tuber, shoots and roots.
Shrubs are also used for landscapes.
They can be grown as backdrops, garden beds and in our garden.
11. Disadvantages of shrubs
Some varieties can get into the foundation of your house as they tend to have been planted
close to the walls.
Older shrubs are often the hardest to remove, the most overgrown, and the most dated.
Bushes like Oleander, Rhododendron, foxglove , Angels trumpets are poisonous.
