Key points of Recognition:
 Willow can grow to the height of 70 feet.
 Most willows can reach 35 to 50 feet in height.
 Flowering takes place at the beginning of the spring.
 Flowers are rich in nectar which attracts insects and ensures
pollination.
 Fruit of willow is brown capsule.
 It can grow 10 feet in height each year.

lanceolate or oblong, blunt tipped, 2 to 6 in (5-15 cm) long and 3/4 to 2
in (2-5 cm) wide; dull-green on the upperside, pale, with a bloom,
below; slightly hairy when young; aromatic when crushed.
 Flowering occurs in spring-early summer.

  • 2. 楊柳 yáng liǔ  English Name: Willow Tree  Latin Name: Salix  Family: Salicaceae  Genus: Salix, L. Key points of Recognition:  Willow can grow to the height of 70 feet.  Most willows can reach 35 to 50 feet in height.  Flowering takes place at the beginning of the spring.  Flowers are rich in nectar which attracts insects and ensures pollination.  Fruit of willow is brown capsule.  It can grow 10 feet in height each year.

The flowers are produced in the early spring before the leaves, bright yellow with deeply four-lobed flower, the petals joined only at the base.

  • 8. 吉野樱桃 jíyě yīngtáo  English Name: Yoshino cherry  Latin Name: Prunus × yedoensis  Family: Rosaceae  Genus: Prunus Key points of Recognition:  grows to be 5 to 12 meters (16–39 ft) (rarely 15 meters (49 ft)) tall.  Regarded one of the most spectacular of flowering trees,  Blooming in early or mid spring for 2 to 3 weeks, its bare branches are smothered with generous clusters of slightly almond-scented, single, pale pink flowers which fade to white as they age.

Key points of Recognition:  This variety produces sky blue, single flowers beginning in April, and is hardy in zones 3 to 7. Growing 5 to 10 feet tall with a width of 4 to 7 feet.  The showy white blooms appear in early spring and may continue through May.

  • 11. 亚里垂榕 Yà lǐ chuí róng  English Name: Alii Fig or Banana-Leaf Fig  Latin Name: Ficus maclellandii  Family: Moraceae  Genus: Ficus Key points of Recognition:  It is an evergreen often grown as a houseplant in temperate climates.  The leaves are 8–13 cm and uniquely dimorphic; with narrow leaves on the lower, sterile branches and broader leaves on the higher branches.  Temperature: Ficus maclellandii Alii prefers a temperature range of 13 to 24°C (55-75°F), although exposure to lower temperatures above 7°C (45°F) is tolerated for short periods of time.
  • 12. 散尾葵 Sàn wěi kuí  English Name: Areca Palm  Latin Name: Chrysalidocarpus lutescens  Family: Arecaceae  Genus: Dypsis Key points of Recognition:  A very popular small to medium-sized multi-stemmed palm, growing height of 6 to 12 meters.  It has multiple clustered non-branching stems emerging from the base.  It bears panicles of yellow flowers in summer.  Areca palms prefer a temperature of 65 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit at night and between 75 and 85 degrees during the day.
  • 13. 棕竹 Zōng zhú  English Name: Lady Palm  Latin Name: Rhapis excelsa  Family: Arecaceae  Genus: Rhapis Key points of Recognition:  grows up to 4 m in height and 30 mm in diameter in multi-stemmed clumps with glossy, palmate evergreen leaves divided into broad, ribbed segments.  They are slow growing, making them ideal for pot culture.
  • 14. 袖珍椰子 Xiùzhēn yēzi  English Name: Bamboo palm  Latin Name: Chamaedorea seifrizii  Family: Arecaceae  Genus: Chamaedorea Key points of Recognition:  The fruit is an orange or red drupe 0.5–2cm (0.2-0.8 inch) diameter.  It is a thin clumping palm tree, spreading by offsets and stolons, growing very slowly up to about 1.5-3m (5-10 feet) in height and spreading about 75cm to 1.2m (2.5-5 feet) – container grown palms.  Bamboo palm grows best in shade but tolerates brighter light if gradually acclimated to sunny conditions.
  • 15. 印度橡胶榕 Yìndù xiàngjiāo  English Name: Rubber Plant  Latin Name: Ficus elastica  Family: Moraceae  Genus: Ficus Key points of Recognition:  In it's natural habitat it grows over 30 metres tall, however, the varieties grown indoors are a much more manageable height.  Rubber Plant should be grown in soil that drains well, create moderate humidity and keep temperatures between 50°F (10°C) to 85°F (29°C). Water when the top inch of soil becomes dry and fertilize monthly.

  • 17. 白掌 Bái zhǎng  English Name: Peace Lily  Latin Name: Spathiphyllum cochlearispathum  Family: Araceae  Genus: Spathiphyllum Key points of Recognition:  grows to 85 cm (33.4 inches) long and the species  Spathiphyllum cochlearispathum from Mexico can grow to 80 cm (31.5 inches) long.  They bloom in the spring with long-lasting flowers that hover gracefully over the leaves on thin stalks. They can also be forced to bloom in the fall or winter. A well-grown Peace Lily may bloom twice a year, resulting in several months of flowers.

They grow at an average rate: about 1-2 feet per year.  The uniquely fan-shaped leaves start out green but change to golden- yellow fall foliage. Before the whole leaf turns golden, there is sometimes a stage during which the leaf is two-toned, with separate bands of gold and green.

Red flowers with 5 petals appear in the spring before the new foliage.  It produces a capsule which, when ripe, contains white fibres like cotton.  conspicuously present during spring season.

Key points of Recognition:  It can grow up to 120 cm in height and has a horizontal rhizome with bulbous, tuber-shaped joints and side shoots. The plant has smooth, square-shaped erect stems with opposite, oval or heart-shaped, dark green leaves.  Species of Scrophularia all share square stems , opposite leaves and open two-lipped flowers forming clusters at the end of their stems.  The flowers are green with red-brown upper lips and small green sepals.

  • 28. 吊灯树  English Name: sausage tree, cucumber tree  Latin Name: Kigelia africana  Family: Bignoniaceae  Genus: Kigelia Key points of Recognition:  It is a tree growing up to 20 m (66 feet) tall and it typically has spreading branches.  The bark is grey and smooth at first, peeling on older trees. It can be as thick as 6 mm (1⁄4 inch) on a 15-centimetre (5.9 in) diameter branch.  The fruit is a woody berry from 30 to 99 cm (12 to 39 inches) long and up to 18 cm (7 inches) broad, but 20 cm (8 inches) has been reported. Typically it weighs between 5 and 10 kg (11 and 22 pounds) but occasionally up to 12 kg (26 pounds), and hangs down on long, rope- like peduncles. The fruit pulp is fibrous, containing many seeds.
