Introduction
 There are about 40.3 million individuals who are the
victim of human trafficking in the whole world.
 The fatalities of human trafficking are almost 21
million, comprising 5.5 million children .
 It transcends all gender, demographics, social
classes, and races.
 The victims suffer from severe anxiety, depression,
and disorder due to long-term abuse and violence.
 Victims feel ashamed and depressed while sharing
their feelings with their family members.
 The mental effect results in retardation in victims' lives
 They need treatment. If not, they may lose their
memory
What is trauma?
 Trauma is the essence that overpowers the
biological and psychological coping mechanisms
of the victim.
 It is the response to a deeply distressing or
disturbing event that overwhelms an individual’s
ability to cope.
 Trauma is caused by an incident that causes
physical, emotional, spiritual, or psychological
harm.
 The external and internal resources are not
enough to cope with the exterior dangers.
 Human trafficking inflicts layers of trauma on
Why human trafficking?
 Human trafficking is the trade of people for the
aim of commercial sexual exploitation, sexual
slavery, and forced labor.
 Human trafficking includes the movement and
recruitment of people, generally by deception,
coercion, and force.
 According to International Labor Organization
there are about 12.3 million persons are in
conditions of bonded or forced labor
 Children, women, and men are exploited and
trafficked in fiscal sectors such as mining, textiles,
fishing, farming and construction.
Different stages of trauma
 Victims suffer from different stages of trauma:
more severe, more destructive, and multifaceted
trauma.
 More severe trauma occurs due to distressing
events such as rape, sexual abuse, etc.
 More destructive trauma occurs when an
individual is exposed to long-lasting or multiple
traumatic events.
 Multifaceted trauma occurs due to exposure to
multiple and varied traumatic experiences or
events.
People who are most
vulnerable to human trafficking
 Human traffickers prey on individuals who are
weak, isolated, and poor.
 Fiscal vulnerability, communal exclusion, and
disempowerment also make people vulnerable to
human trafficking.
 They are often beguiled by offering better job or
work opportunities abroad.
Symptoms of the bad mental
condition of victims
 Human trafficking creates an ending impression
on the mind of the victim.
 A mild trauma means severe anxiety, confusion,
irritation, lack of confidence and trust, incapability
to study or work, and incapability to have a better
sleep.
 Physical ailments include nausea, headaches,
body aches, fatigue, etc.
 It affects performance at work or school, and
relationships of people.
 Sometimes, trauma has a worse effect on the
victim, as it affects the health and may lead to
suicide
Psychological hazards of
victims of human trafficking
 Every step of human trafficking includes
psychological, sexual, and physical abuse.
 Trafficked victims' mental and physical health is
affected by restlessness, anxiety, insecurity, fear,
and physical pain.
 The victims of human trafficking complain about
extreme sadness and hopelessness about their
future.
 These disturbances may be suicidal; they also
can have reasoning deficiency, memory loss and
may be inhibited.
Continue…
 In the USA, about 71% of individuals are trafficked
and also suffered from high trauma.
 Post-traumatic stress disorder, downheartedness,
nervousness, and anxiety disorder.
 Post-traumatic Stress Disorders are a cognitive
fitness diagnostic category created for victims who
suffer from trauma due to human trafficking.
 The victims often struggle with symptoms such as
nightmares, invasive thoughts, flashbacks, avoiding
people and conditions, and hyper arousal.
 In a flashback, when a victim remembers that event,
he/she suffers from fear and severe trauma.
Continue
 The victim's anxiety can be complicated, as
victims feel the actual danger related to the
practice of trafficking
 The psychological impacts on victims can be
more harmful than physical violence.
 Re-feeling the traumatic events and perception of
intensified danger often hurt cognitive abilities of
the victims.
 Repeated trauma means bad behavior will
become a part of the victim's life.
Trauma and Women
 Women are highly vulnerable as they suffer from
severe trauma.
 It is difficult for women to control the mental
condition.
 The trafficked women suffered from bad temper
such as punching walls, throwing things, and
beating other individuals.
 Women's depression level is mostly found at an
alarming state
Physical Impacts of Human
Trafficking
 Trauma affects the physical health of victims,
such as headaches, stomach pain, etc.
 The victims also face difficulties regarding getting
a new job, continuing education, paying bills, and
interacting with the people in society.
 The victims who have PTSD frequently face
numerous complications such as suicidal
behaviors, lack of concentration, communication
issues.
 The victims also show poor performance at work
which leads to failure.
Challenges in treatment of
victims of human trafficking
 Restricted access and availability to proper
mental fitness amenities are some of the major
challenges.
 Shame is the chief barrier that prevents the
victims from treatment.
 People often ignore trauma as a minor health
issue in trafficked persons.
 The barriers to access cognitive fitness amenities
are connected to the problems of concerns and
confidentiality in the USA.
 Another challenge is to establish a trust
relationship with victims.
Treatment
 There are numerous post-trauma replies for
victims of human trafficking.
 There are numerous options of trauma treatment
such as; family therapy, biologically focused
therapy, trauma-focused therapy, and mental,
behavioral therapy.
 There are rehabilitation schemes and victim
service providers who employ different ways for
recovery.
 They use music and art therapy to help victims in
order to build a link between mental fitness and
physical symptoms.
 people should adopt better behavior with the
victims in order to reduce trauma.
Important points for treatment
 Before treatment, the interview of the victim
should be taken in a safe and comfortable
environment.
 During the treatment, simple techniques should
be used to sustain the feeling of control in the
victim.
 victimization should be avoided
 The complete procedure of criminal trial and
inquiry might cause secondary victimization which
must be addressed.
Conclusion
 Victims of human trafficking are susceptible to
psychological signs of trauma resulting from long-
lasting, invasive, and repeated abuse.
 Victims face physical, social as well as
psychological challenges
 Victims faces severe anxiety, confusion, irritation,
lack of confidence and trust, incapability to study
or work, or sleep which may lead to suicide.
 The victims of human trafficking can get better
with different therapies such as family therapy,
biologically focused therapy, trauma-focused
therapy, and mental, behavioral therapy.
