3. Philosophy and education is the two sides of a
coin. Philosophy is the wisdom acquired after
mature thinking and education is the practical
step[s of translating these ideas into action .
Islam is not just a matter of belief. It is
complete code of life.
So it seems more appropriate to examine the
Islamic philosophy of education for all MAJOR
AREAS OF PHILOSOPHY
4. ONTOLOGY( A BRANCH OF META PHYSICS)=
REALITY.
The questions mainly discussed under this
branch are:
1.What is the nature of universe we live in?
2. What is reality?
3.What is the nature of human beings?
5. In educational theory and pracice Ontology
generates disscussions of questions that lack
scientific answers.e.g:
What things exist? (stars yes, unicorns no,
numbers . . . yes?)
What categories do they belong to? (are numbers
physical properties or just ideas?)
Is there such a thing as objective reality?
What does the verb “to be” mean?
Some of these questions may seem painfully
abstract and not very useful, but they are and
always have been enormously important
6. Problem of ontology started in the history of
Islam by the reference to the nature of man and
the nature reality in Quran and philosophical
discourses of the HOLY PROPHER(PEACE BE UPON
HIM) and his companions in the early period.
All Ontological speculation in Islam has resulted
from an effort to achieve three different
objectives:
1.To explain Islamic belief
2.To refute alleged weak points in Islamic belief
3.To try to give an answer to the questions.
7. Existence is of two kinds: God and the universe
and universe is created by God.
Phenomental world is real.
Spiritual word is also real.
How mind and body interact?
For everything created there should be a creator.
One which undergoes change ,is created(hadith)
God is eternal and all powerful.
8. It is the soul, which makes the body worthy
and by virtue of the soul man commands
superiority over the creatures.
God has given man a gift of becoming
conscious of his own being
Reality of universe and man are purposeful.
Ultimate reality GOD is beyond any limitation
and is pure and absolute power.
9. The branch of philosophy that deals with the
knowledge is called Epistemology.
In the islamic philophophy, yhe term used for
knowlede in Arabic is ~ilm~ which is an all
embracing term covering theory ,action and
education.
10. Inspiration or revelation or prophetic
experience (wahy)
Intuition (insight) or the mystic experience
(ilham)
Intellectual knowledge
Empiricism/sensory organs
Logical knowledge(through analysis and
synthesis)
11. Axiology, (from Greek axios, “worthy”; logos,
“science”), also called Theory Of Value, the
philosophical study of goodness, or value.
The arabic nomenclature of value is ~qadr~
.Literally it means `appropriate measure`
12. Morality may be defined as a science which
interprets virtues and mischiefs. It describes how
man should behave towards himself and others.
What should be the aim of his actions.
we are given four directions;
1.Our faith should be true and sincere.
2.We must be prepared to show it in deeds of
charity to our fellow men.
3.We must be good citizens.
4.Our own individual soul must be firm and
unshaken in all circumstances.
13. IMPLICATION OF ISLAMIC PHILOSOPHY IN
TEACHING PROCESS
To provide the teaching of holy Quran as First
step of education
To provide experiences based on Islam which
cannot be changed
To provide experience in the form of
knowledge and skills
The knowledge with out faith and religion is
incomplete.
14. To develop commitment towards the basic
values which have been prescribed in religion
To develop sense of accountability towards
Almighty Creator so that man passes his life
like a faithful servant.
To encourage international brotherhood.
To bring man nearer top an understanding
God.
To develop pity and faith.
To develop qualities of good man.
