The document provides tips for the IELTS reading test. It states that the test has 3 sections with 1-2 passages each, for a total of 40 questions to be answered in 60 minutes. Various question types are covered, and test takers should know how to answer each type. Time management and spelling are important. Two key reading techniques discussed are scanning to quickly find specific information, and skimming to get the overall idea of a passage. Specific tips are provided for heading-matching and fill-in-the-blank question types. Examples from prior IELTS tests are referenced for practice.

4. Two important techniques:
Scanning: is a reading technique to be used when you want to find specific information quickly. In scanning you have a
question in your mind and you read a passage only to find the answer, ignoring unrelated information.
Skimming: refers to the process of reading only main ideas within a passage to get an overall impression of the content of a
reading selection.
5. 1. Heading-matching
1) Read the instructions.
2) Read the title.
3) Read the first 2 or 3 sentences of the first paragraph to have a better understanding of the passage.
4) Read the list of headings and underline key words.
5) There are usually 1 or 2 extra headings.
6) The answers are not in order.
7) You must cross out the option that you have chosen before.
8) When underlining words, do your best not to underline words that can be found 100 times in the passage.
9) Translating the headings into your own language might help you remember them better.
10) The first, second and last lines are extremely important.
11) If you are struggling with one paragraph, move on to the next and do not waste your time. Come back to it later on.
12) Some headings talk about something in plural, like ‘steps’. You should look for steps and not step.
13) When stuck between two headings, choose the more general one.

10) IELTS is all about paraphrasing.
11) In one paragraph, there might be more than 1 answer.
